Pho delivery in Center City?

'Tis the season for Pho, but does anyone know a place that delivers to Center City, more specifically the Rittenhouse-area?

Breakfast/brunch one-pot ideas for a crowd

We have a crazy tradition here in Philly where grown men dress like women and get drunk while parading down Broad St. We live close to said parade and are having a party at our tiny apartment. I'd like a one-pot meal to help soak up the booze and fill bellys on what is most likely going to be an early, and cold day here. I was thinking chili, but it may be a bit early for that. It starts at 830am. Any ideas? The crockpot will be my best friend, as it can keep the food warm with minimal attention...

Pineapples galore. Hoping for recipe ideas.

I am travelling to Puerto Rico soon, and we are staying at a house in pineapple country. I will be cooking quite a bit, and was hoping for some non-dessert ideas to make for our host. Any ideas are welcome and appreciated.

Thank you!

ISO quality ground beef in Philly, a la Freida-esque blends to use at home

Good call on Garces Trading Co. They do sell the meat at $10.49/lb. Now I have to figure out if I want to spend the extra $50 and get fancy or not.

ISO quality ground beef in Philly, a la Freida-esque blends to use at home

I'm in charge of the burgers for a party this weekend, and I want to come correct, but I don't have a grinder, and I don't necessarily feel like being high-maintenance and making up a custom blend at the butcher. Does anyone have any knowledge of good blends or simply the highest quality ground beef in Philly? Preferably Center City/S. Philly area.

Thank you

Live lobsters in Philly?

Under the C is a good rec. I thought the prices would be lower around town in general. I stopped at the Asian Market on 6th and Washington, they had live ones in tanks that looked fine. $9.49/lb. Also stopped by Uncle Jesse's on 8th and Washington, they were $9.99/lb there. Anastasio's had them on ice, but they were alive, for the same price. Any good recommendations on live crabs in the city? I saw some pretty good things on the internet about Phil's live crabs on 10th and Oregon.

Live lobsters in Philly?

I've been reading alot about lobster lately, and I know that the prices are very low and lobstermen & women are having a rough go of it. That being said, we do benefit by having affordable lobster prices as a consumer. I stopped by the Asian market at 11th and Washington, but they didn't have any in the tanks, and quite frankly, there tanks are dirty anyways. Where in the city, can one find live lobsters? I spoke with the gentlemen at DiBruno's the other day, and they are supposedly getting a tank soon. Any other recs?

University City (close to Penn) engagement party rec. pretty please!?

Thank you to all who weighed in. Unfortunately, UCity is a must because there will be 50 people, mostly out-of-towners, coming for the church service at 39th and Chestnut. It's going to be tough enough parking once, let alone twice on a Friday night in the city.

University City (close to Penn) engagement party rec. pretty please!?

Thanks all! Marigold can only accommodate 38 people and has a minimum of $5,000 just to shut the restaurant down. I'll look into White Dog. Hear mixed reviews...Any word on City Tap House?

University City (close to Penn) engagement party rec. pretty please!?

Ciao everyone,

I'm helping my best friend's Mother plan an engagement party for her son. She is looking for a private room or place to hold about 50 people. BYOB or liquor license doesn't matter. A good space, with good food and good service is what counts. I can't remember what Marigold would be like, but I can't think of much out there besides Distrito, that may work?....Any suggestions would be excellent. Thank you all in advance if you could help.

Please help organize my bar crawl...er, I mean short visit.

Good Day All,

I will be in town for a short visit with my GF in 2 wks. We will have all day Saturday and half the day Sunday to get down to business. My favorite way to explore a city is to bar hop, all the while sight-seeing, and tasting the local fare. I was looking for chill, local spots along the way. I definitely want to do some breakfast in the North End, even if it's just an espresso and a pastry, I've spent time in Cambridge before and would probably rather not go back during this trip since I've been there. My ideal places would be an ecclectic mix, with good beers. Food would be great, but we won't eat at every place so I dont need gastropub after gastropub. Markets are great, dives are great, we are very flexible and will be staying at the Hostel Internationall at Boylston and Hemenway. i think it's near Hynes Convention and Fenway. I don't necessarily need low end prices, although who doesn't like to save a buck? Any can't miss pub dishes, lobster rolls(sorry-in-advance), etc.? If you were taking some friends out for a little sight-seeing pub crawl with a snack in between what would you do? Where would you go? Not really interested in burgers or ethnic since I can get that a pretty solid offering of that in Philly. We will be on foot, but are not opposed to public transportation by any means. Preferably we would be walking everywhere though. Hopefully this isn't a redundant question. Thank you.

Lastly, we will be leaving Sunday afternoon. i was hoping to find a bar that I may be able to catch the Eagles game at 1pm. Anywhere around the South Station that has the NFL ticket by chance?

Grazie!!!!!!!!!

Swift Half - My New Addiction

I thought the peanut brittle had good flavor, but was too spicy in a back of the throat/unpleasant way. I love heat, but this wasn't balanced for me. Great idea though. Also, my girlfriend smacked me for staring at the deviled EGG. Is it normally just one half of a deviled egg for $3? I saw it come out and I saw the tables reaction, I couldnt believe it was one half for $3! Other than that, I think the place is solid. Sorry to disagree,,,

Johns Roast Pork - What happened??

I can't speak for the pork, as I have passed the crown to Paesano's a while ago and see no reason to go elsewhere for a pork sandwich when Paesano's is so damn good. But I did have the cheesesteak this morning from John's and I'm happy to report it's just as good as it's supposed to be. I definitely miss seeing John mix it up on the grill like a maniac, but the steak was delicious.

Amis reports?

I walk by everyday and it seems like it's a place where, given the right time, a single diner could walk in and chill over a glass of vino and a few plates and not feel as if he/she is taking up valuable real estate meant for parties of 2 or more. Is this the case? I know it has the bar area, what are your thoughts?

Haines Pork Store

Haines is definitely legit and worth a trip I think. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the Italian sausage.

Phils game drink specials

Any ideas? Usually I see the Miller Lite/Bud specials here and there. Can you weigh in no matter what the place or the beer? As long as they have specials during the Phillies games it would be helpful information.

Thanks

Melograno or Salento?

I am aware of the move. Melograno is open until the end of the month. Maybe the 27th but I could be wrong on exact date? At least long enough for me to get there this week in it's current space. Although, I am definitely looking forward to seeing Dave Katz in action again. Dude is a beast....but back to the original question, other thoughts?

Any ideas for a breakfast soup?

I just thought about making a breakfast soup for guests next weekend, but I don't believe I've ever heard of one. One guest is a vegetarian so any recipes meeting those requirements would be appreciated, but worst case I'll make her something else instead. I know you could do certain soups and pass them off for breakfast but I was hoping someone knew one that was more breakfast oriented, whatever that means. Thanks

BYOB on Saturday night

I agree it's very hard to beat Pumpkins' Sunday night deal, however, I think they have ended it for the season. Although it is an exceptional place to go for a great

So the girlfriend didn't like seafood for 4 yrs., now she has come around...somewhat. [Moved from Home Cooking board]

Thanks for the ideas thus far. She doesn't do sashimi or sushi no matter what, she doesn't like salmon either. She also hasn't liked any tuna steaks that I've ordered out, probably because I order them med. rare. So there it is a textural thing above all. I will stop by the fish market tomorrow to give some of the others a whirl.

So the girlfriend didn't like seafood for 4 yrs., now she has come around...somewhat. [Moved from Home Cooking board]

Somehow she's managed to come around and enjoy some seafood. On vacation she had a snapper and a king fish that she liked, most recently she had scallops and catfish which she liked. So, my question is...what other types of fish would be considered lighter, or "non-fishy" if you will. She can't do shrimp or say tuna fish in a can. It's too fishy. The slightest taste of fish will turn her away. I know fish is supposed to be fresh and not smell like fish, but the bottom line is some seafood tastes like the sea, in such a way that those who aren't big fans consider it fishy. So, what other fish should I pick up for her to try and how should I prepare them for her. Thank You
PS. Even crab is too fishy

My wine fridge has a lot of moisture, any suggestions?

The bottles seem to be sweating and it's affecting the labels which is annoying. The fridge is set at 55 and is brand new. Not all of the bottles are affected, I'd say 35% are though. Our house has central air and doesn't get flat out hot. Any ideas how to combat this or what might be wrong?

Philadelphia Bachelor Party Dinner Suggestion?

Where are you looking to go in the city? Bigley hit on some good spots, I would also add N 3rd and stay away from Fogo De Chao because if your friends are like my friends, you're gonna eat all that food and then be too full to do anything afterwards. Either way, anywhere good is going to fill up so an early dinner may be best. menupages.com should have all the menus for these places to see if they will fit the bill. All of Bigleys recs have above average food.

Ready Made Finger Foods for Housewarming?

Might be more work than you're looking for, but...My staple for easy entertaining is Bitar's, Claudio's and Sarcone's. Claudio's has some of the best pesto Ive had, that with Sarcone's bread is simply a treat, throw in a couple cheeses and olives from Claudio's and that base is covered. Bitar's has the hummus, baba, and tabouli as well as pita's and some great desserts. If you want sandwiches, also hit Sarcone's deli and get an assortment and either have them cut it or cut it yourself.
PS. Congratulations on the new house
