Claussen pickle relish, refrigerated This is an exceptional relish and I think Kraft has taken it off production. If anyone finds this, would you let me know. I'll go anywhere for a bunch of this. It's with Claussen pickles usually. Thank you! |

Miki's market closing [Palo Alto] Miki's in Palo Alto, which opened in Oct. 2012, is having a 30% off sale and will close 4/1. Too bad. |

I'm looking for the bright orange fresh eggs that I've bought at our local Japanese market. The price of corn has made the egg price prohibitive, so he no longer carries them. I can go anywhere on the peninsula or SF. They're worth it. |

Anyone know where to get excellent turkey gravy - from store or restaurant - in SF or peninsula? |

SF Peninsula has new grocery store Today I went to Miki's in Palo Alto (Alma, a block or so north of Charleston), which comes from someone from the Berkeley Bowl, yes? I loved it. The amount of organic produce which also shows the area of Ca. it comes from, was a plus; the cheese selection wonderful; soy products abundant, and they have a decent selection of regular grocery items. I would characterize it as being like a smaller Whole Foods but excelling that chain in quality and overall a much more 'homey' feeling. They have a superior produce area. It might be a tad tight with alot of people, especially during the holidays coming up. I didn't have the time to do a very thorough study, so perhaps this isn't very complete. With crowds, there might be a parking problem. From you, I'd like to know what was outstanding from Berkeley Bowl that Miki's might have? Thanks in advance. |

Peninsula commuting todo list (obscenely long...) Yes! I like the stuffed cabbage with two sauces. And the beer! |

Just moved to Mountain View from New York. Help an east coast hound find his new favorite haunts! We've been going there a long time, back when the aunt made all the pies. Up to awhile back, the crust was crispy and light, complementing the flavorful fillings. Now, it seems they make the pies along with the store variety perhaps where I would guess preservation is important. We had some for the first time in years last week and all of us were surprised they would change a popular, people-drawing, known-for item like the pies. |

Peninsula commuting todo list (obscenely long...) Another terrific breakfast place is Main St Cafe in RWC. And try their rhubarb crisp if it's a special. They have an outside patio, too. |

Just moved to Mountain View from New York. Help an east coast hound find his new favorite haunts! Duarte's pies - crust has changed; not for better. Good pies at Arangeli's, esp rhubarb. Also, Arangeli's used to have a great way to order and send their partially baked breads anywhere. We've gone to Duarte's for 40 years - usually get take-out & go to beach or Butano State Park for picnic. I prefer the 1/2 (artichoke) and 1/2 (green chile) soup. |

Just moved to Mountain View from New York. Help an east coast hound find his new favorite haunts! Yes, 2 doors north, next to Gerry's Bakery. Their eggs are really good, too. |

Just moved to Mountain View from New York. Help an east coast hound find his new favorite haunts! Great small, personal mom and pop Asian market in Menlo Park is Naks. The owners are from Japan and will recommend brands, explain ingredients, how to handle, prepare an ingredient. They have a small, fresh produce section, other veggies and fruits, great sushi a couple times a week, fresh SJ Tofu daily, and much more. |

What's the deal with restaurants in Palo Alto? I think you mean Piazza's Grocery. And there's another in Palo Alto on Middlefield Rd near San Antonio Road, near the Milk Pail. Roberts Mkt has a 2nd place now, in Portola Valley. For Italian cheeses (and others) go to Woodside Deli in RWC on Woodside Road, closer to 280 than 101. Great place for imported pastas, proscuitto, deli meats and popular for big, old-fashioned sandwiches. |

Aus / NZ trip coming up, different take on recommendations question Just returned from Au. In Melbourne, go to Satan's...?, for tapas (Fitzroy area). In Sydney, Bangbang had good breakfast, including Welsh Rarebit, great corn fritters, fish sandwich. Also liked Udon in Darlinghurst, Spice I Am for Thai and Mamek for roti. In Bondi Beach, Trio had best breakfast we had anywhere (also supposed to be good for dinner), and heard Brown Sugar also was good. Try the Fish Pie at Brown Sugar for dinner. We tried all of Bill's specials (Darlinghurst) and found all bland and nothing special, totally undeserving of praise. |

Sichuan Specialties at Crouching Tiger Restaurant in Redwood City We ate here last night. Huge portions and high quality. Could have made a whole meal of appetizers alone. This should be a top Chinese spot for those of us who live near here as we had a variety of fish and veggie dishes, some which they split 1/2 with meat for our meat-eating one, such as the awesome pot stickers. The Sichuan spicy and sour cold rice jello (noodle-like) with a sauce so good we took home the left over. |
