Best Restaurants walking distance to Loews Miami (and some baby friendly)

My husband, 9 month old daughter and I will be in Miami at the end of February and I'm looking for some restaurant recommendations that are within walking distance of the Loews Hotel.

One night we will be going out to dinner without our daughter so we'd like a really great restaurant to go to (food is more important that scene and no NYC outposts please.)

I am also looking for some great restaurants where I could go for earlier dinners where I could also bring my daughter (do not need a kid menu - just needs to be tolerant of baby for an early dinner.) Cheap or expensive, it does not matter and we like all kinds of food.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Dinner with a 1 year old

I am very interested in the same and would appreciate info on restaurants that are baby friendly.

That being said I think The Smith (3rd ave and 11th) has pretty good food and can be baby friendly if you avoid peak times like brunch where it is terribly loud and crowded. Petite Abeille (20th & 1st Ave) has lots of kids/babies but the food is not particularly great -- it's good for the selection of Belgian beers though. Other than that I cannot think of any real family oriented places but I am dying to learn of some as I also have a baby and would like to be able to resume dining out.

Office Xmas dinner for 10 next Friday $100pp

One place did come to mind -- Bar Room at the Modern. While you can't get a round table there they might be able to fit you in. Good atmosphere and great food.

Also, another idea for a round table would be something like the Peking Duck House if you want family style and don't mind chinese.

Office Xmas dinner for 10 next Friday $100pp

Since it's kind of short notice for a large dinner party and all of the restaurants are heavily booked due to the season, you might want to scope out Opentable.com and see what is available for your party size on that date. I just put in 10 people around 7pm and found 200 openings -- some better than others. But at least that will give you a starting point. There are some steak houses, Italian, etc...

Craft - What to Order?

I love the gnocchi there, it's so light and delicious and a steal relative to the rest of the items on the menu. The bacon is fantastic as well though quite rich. We've had the short rib which was very good. When my husband I went there (both decent appetites) we had 2 apps, 2 sides and shared the short rib. I think we managed to share a dessert. The second time we went we did a similar type of order. The portions on some items like the gnocchi and short rib are quite large so ask your server to help you with getting the right number of dishes.

The bottles of wine are all on the more expensive side -- very few bottles under $75 if I remember correctly. We found the wine by the glass to be a great value as they give generous pours.

Lunch near Baruch College

I used to work around there and found it to be slim pickings. Have you tried Baoguette? They have some interesting Vietnamese sandwiches. I would also suggest going to Curry Hill for lunch -- most of the places have lunch specials. Pongol has a nice one with a dosa, and a few other things on a combo plate for around $10. Other than that, it's just the usual -- Shake Shack, Hale & Hearty, Qdoba, etc.

Moderate-priced restaurant recommendations for family of 6 adults and 1 toddler

What kind of price range were you thinking of per person? NYC has all sorts of restaurants at different price points and one person's budget dining experience could be another's higher end.

Having said that, I would check out Otto -- it can get a little loud but I think if you go on the earlier side it would be nice for a group with a toddler.

Best Indian Food in the City...

If you like South Indian food (though they have some vegetarian North Indian food on the menu,) then I would suggest Pongol on Lex and 26th. I think they have a great combo of atmosphere, service and delicious food. Much better than Saravanaas where the service is horrible, the lines are long and the food is not worth the wait. Pongol has amazing dosas and very good veg North Indian food.

For North Indian food I like Dhaba (though it is super noisy at night) and Chola. Both have some very good and different options that you don't see on every Indian menu in the city. I especially like the goat dishes at both places.

Best Fine Dining in Toronto??

Yes, they are more than happy to take your money! I've checked.

Babbo v Momofuku Ko

IMO Marea is by far superior in food quality/prep to Convivio. I've tried many of the dishes at Convivio and only a few apps and 1 pasta (the fusilli) stand out. At Marea everything our table tried was outstanding.

Babbo v Momofuku Ko

If Babbo doesn't work out for you, and you're looking for great Italian food, I would try Marea. I went there before it got its 3 stars in the NY Times this week. It was AMAZING. Much better than Babbo which I've been to a multitude of times. The octopus pasta with bone marrow and the uni spaghetti were to DIE for. Read the review and see if it sounds appealing -- reservations are easier to come by than Babbo and the location and ambiance are very nice, whereas at Babbo you could be listening to hard rock while drinking a $300 bottle of wine.

As for KO you might want to consider lunch. From what I hear that is the more extravagant offering of the day -- ie lunch costs $175 and is a 3 hr meal vs dinner at $125 and 2 hrs. It may also be slightly easier to get a lunch spot than dinner.

Luke's Lobster

Also, does anyone know if they deliver or plan on delivering in the future?

Luke's Lobster

I read on Luke's website that it is only claw meat served in the bun (http://www.lukeslobster.com/a-lobster-tale/) -- is that the case at most other places in the city? I usually get my lobster rolls at Pearl's and I think I recall some tail meat in there...

Kajitsu

Just had a wonderful meal at Kajitsu tonight. The service was great, and the food was lovely. We had the four course tasting menu and ordered an extra course of the soba noodles for an extra $9. We were told that the soba this month had a higher ratio of buckwheat to semolina to celebrate the fact that it was the buckwheat harvesting month. Our server was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain every dish to us. We also enjoyed the very affordable sake pairing ($18 for 3 decent sized pours.) I highly recommend a visit to try something other than standard issue sushi if you're in the mood for Japanese.

Best Fine Dining in Toronto??

Charles, Thank you again for the other great suggestion. Carruthers, regarding driving in to the city, I was going to get them a night at a hotel in Toronto as well... no fun to have a big meal and wine only to have to drive 2 hrs home after it! But they could definitely drive to Auberge to or from the hotel so I will definitely look in to that as well. Thanks again to everyone for the help!

Best Fine Dining in Toronto??

Charles, Thank you for the suggestion. I will check it out. My sister briefly lived in NYC but never went to any of the fine dining establishments. Her fiance is from Waterloo where the dining options are pretty slim I hear. That being said I think they would enjoy something really nice by Toronto standards even though the place might not compare to NYC's fine dining. Ideally a place with nice ambiance/romantic, good food would be meet my needs. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Best Fine Dining in Toronto??

Canoe looks great, but unfortunately it is closed on Saturday -- and my sister lives a few hours from Toronto so I would need the restaurant to be open on Saturday. North 44 is open so that might fit the bill.

Best Fine Dining in Toronto??

I was just looking at Colborne Lane - seems like an interesting menu and nice atmosphere. Any thoughts? I am not picky on the type of food as long as it would count as fine dining. A place with a tasting menu and wine pairings would be ideal.

Best Fine Dining in Toronto??

I want to purchase a gift certificate for my sister and her new husband for a fine dining restaurant in Toronto. I live in NYC and have not been to Toronto in ages so I am very unfamiliar with the restaurant scene. Can you please let me know what restaurants are considered the very best in Toronto? Excellent food and decor are a must! Price is not a factor.

Aureole at the new location

Has anyone else dined here recently? Am looking to book for my husband's birthday but do not want to be disappointed.

popping the question, just need a setting

Have not been to JG but have recently been to EMP. The food at EMP was very good and so was the service. While the space at EMP is beautiful, and grand, I did not find it to be very romantic. I would suggest that you stop by both restaurants to take a look at the spaces and then make your decision from there. EMP has a bar so you could easily say you're meeting someone at the bar, go in, and then walk out with no questions asked. I am not sure about JG but for something this important it would be worth looking in to.

If Per Se is your first choice, why not call and ask if there is a wait list for openings. I see openings on Open Table come up on occasion and you may get lucky!

Best wishes!
