Tepthida Khmer - lowell

I have gone to TK with my wife before a few shows at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The nights we went were very crowded (think pre-show) with typical restaurant noise but nothing that I felt was over the top. They also had air conditioning on when we went so I am not sure if maybe it just wasn't working during your visit.

That is too bad to hear because I do think it is one of the better SE Asian places to go before a show. I would definitely recommend another try.

Are Buff's Pub wings really all that ?

I am a frequent proponent of the wings at Wendell's in Norton. I actually prefer them to the ones at Buff's and have even driven down from Boston to get some of their sauce when making a large batch of my own wings!

BBQ @ Copperfield's

It is most definitely not cleaned up. Still dingy and dark. I wouldn't eat food from there either. The food does not come from Copperfield's, though. It is smoked off-site and brought in by a guy who really knows his stuff.

Like I said, a very big surprise and definitely worth checking out if you happen to be there or in the area.

Bob's, Medford

But to make pizza, or calzones for that matter, you need an oven. No?

Bob's, Medford

They make pizzas so they do have an oven. As a matter of fact I have had them heat up slice for me.

BBQ @ Copperfield's

I was heading to the Red Sox game over the weekend and decided to stop into Copperfield's for a beer before the game. I was surprised when I walked into an amazing aroma, the smell of smoky barbecue. Having had one or two beers I could no longer resist the temptation and decided to walk over to the small stand to see what the guy had for food. I was pretty impressed by his descriptions of how he prepared and smoked the different items he was offering. After trying a sample of the pulled chicken and pulled pork I decided to go with the juicy looking brisket. I must say I was pretty blown away with the quality, flavor (a nice smoke ring), and freshness of the food.

By the time I left business was booming and he was down to just pulled chicken. I would definitely recommend a stop in (I think it may just be on game day/nights). Of all of the places to find some good BBQ I have to say Copperfield's was the LAST place I was expecting it. Definitely a hidden gem in a dark and musty bar!

As an FYI, all of these are sandwiches and were $7 each. They are HUGE and there were some condiments available including a home made BBQ sauce.

Cafe Latino Gov't Center is the Real Deal - Serious Roast Pork

Huge Cafe Latino fan. My office moved over by Government Center just over a year ago and I try to get there every month or so. The prices (around seven or eight bucks) for the roast pork with sides is just awesome.

I usually get the rice and beans with the cilantro sauce. Not sure of the exact name. Always go with the crispy skin though, amazing...

North End restaurant for Mother's Day

I second Lucca. Three fantastic experiences there.

They also have a full bar which is somewhat of a luxury in the North End.

Jerry Remy's Sports Bar & Grill Fenway

I agree, I was VERY surprised by the PigTrip review as I pretty much agree with their reviews every time I try a BBQ place. I need to give it a shot and have heard good things from a few friends as well.

South shore in home restaurant

I am 99% sure you are talking about Chez Ducrot in Plymouth and, although I haven't been, I have heard very good things!

Here is the link:

Enjoy!

Best Steakhouse in Boston?

Another vote for Grill 23 here as well. Had a great night out for a Bachelor Party Dinner and the food and service were impeccable.

Need Help Fast

We recently did a birthday dinner at Gran Gusto in Cambridge and it was great. Give them a call, they are not doing Restaurant Week and may have some openings.

Best Devils Food Cake in Boston (and area)

Hmmm, not sure. I was at a friends house when I had it and he lives near Lyndell's. I would give them a call because even if it isn't on the website I am sure they would be happy to make you one! :)

Best Devils Food Cake in Boston (and area)

I recently had an awesome piece of Devil's Food Cake from Lyndell's in Somerville. Very moist and airy. It was really great.

Wings wings wings

Wendell's in Norton. Fantastic wings and sometimes I head down there from Somerville just to pick up some sauce to use on my own wings!

Wine educator/sommelier for private party?

I will second the recommendation for Dave's Fresh Pasta. They worked with my wife on a wine tasting party and were fantastic.

I've Been Waiting All My Life for This

I am so there...

time to kill in East Boston?

I second the Meridien Special recommendation! Throw in an arancini while you are at it. :)

Best of Christina's Spices

They have some really nice sea salts and pink peppercorns are always appreciated!

Bourdain On Saturday? Pre-Show Eats...

We did end up at Tepthida Khmer before the show. It was great although the servers definitely seemed overwhelmed when the place got to about half-full. Had the Beef Cha K'nehi, Beef Loc Lac, and a chicken dish in a coconut milk curry with potatoes (I forget the name). Overall the meal was great, beef was tender, very potent ginger flavors in the K'nehi, and my wife loved the chicken dish. Even with the stir crazy service we would definitely go back.

Needham's Dining Scene

Actually I thought the Brookline and Needham locations are affiliated and they were both asked by the one in the North End, which is not affiliated, to stop using the name. Is that incorrect?

Bourdain On Saturday? Pre-Show Eats...

I have been doing some searches for the same reason. A couple of places that keep coming up are Pho88 and Tepthida Khmer. Southeast Asian seems to be the way to go!

The Independent -- WHAT HAPPENED?

We went there last weekend and all agreed to do dinner at La Cantina Mexicana and drinks after at the Independent. The food is seriously lacking nowadays.

Nick Verano's Famous Deli

I was at Strega two weeks ago and had the stuffed veal chop. Room temperature sides, small portion and a whopping $42.95! Not even a double cut chop. Overall it was a decent meal but definitely not worth the prices.

I also noticed an almost 400% markup on the wine list which is very high.

Davis Square Suggestions

Victor's chicken parm is like a religious experience. :)

Help with Chicken Wing deals

Old Magoun Saloon in Somerville has ten cent wings for Monday Night Football. They are the large ones too not the tiny ones you usually get for a dime!

ISO Dried Chiles

I second the Penzey's rec. I have purchased dried guajillo, piquin and dundicuts there.

Shipyard Pumpkin Ale

I have purchased it at Kappy's in Medford (Wellington) and Sav-Mor Liquors by the Twin City Plaza in Somerville.

Suggestions for not-too-expensive restaurants to take a date to? Preferably in Cambridge/Somerville.

I like the Ronnarong suggestion. If things go well you can go for a drink after at the Independent or Precinct, or a Margarita at Taqueria la Mexicana.

Late/all night dining near Tufts?

Espresso Pizza on Boston Avenue is open until 2:00am on Friday and Saturday nights and 12:30 or 1:00am the rest of the week.Decent steak and cheese, subs, pizza, fries, etc. Definitely close to Tufts and open late.
