Pearl at Bayview Village

must agree with Helen
Best sticky rice ever in Toronto
Loved the steamed Bean Curd rolls as well.
In fact, liked everything we ordered each time.
have been half a dozen times and have been pleased with the Dim Sum.
The Dinner menu is very limited but quite decent .
Far better than anything else within a reasonable drive, but not in the category of Yangs, Emperor, etc..

South African Pies

we will be returning to Capetown in January.
Any suggestions in the vicinity?

Can someone recommend a great Italian restaurant on College?

I dislike old posts.
We have been back to Marinella, and they no longer serve the Whole Fish, and our meal was fine, but not notable.

Chantarelles at Costco?

lots at Warden this week as well.

What it's like at Pusateri's nowadays

I will return, but not for many Months, as I want to be certain that all present stock (including shelved items) are gone.

Decent Chinese downtown (that has good veg & seafood and has wine or allows BYOB)?

We frequented New Sky for many years, and can't quite describe why we stopped going.
The food simply didn't excite us any longer.
Less care taken with each dish.
e.g. The Duck in Taro, last time was very dry , and somewhat greasy.
In the past it was usually perfect, etc.etc.
We like Taste of China for Seafood, and I had responded that the best Crab we ordered this year was there.
Also the older Lady, is very generous in offering suggestions, and does tell us about some of the specials, but we ask what is best in Seafood, or Chicken today.
We also like Lee Gardens, which I know you don't as it is Chinese as well as Chinese Canadian, and everything is offered in English, hassle free, and enjoyable.

George or Acadia

I would suggest George,
I really like Acadia, but you will be in and out in a shorter period of time.
George will be the entire evening, and much more relaxing..

Chantarelles at Costco?

didn't have them at Woodbine yesterday
Anyone know if they are available at Warden?

Yet another disappointing truffle experience ...

I visited a Truffle Farm last year, and they pride themselves on making natural Truffle Oil.
They use only the Shells, no Truffle.
I can't understand why the Truffles are so tasteless in this City.
Out of Season, many European Chefs use Spanish Truffles, which are very aromatic.

Scarborough -- Chinese food @ Finch and Midland

We still frequent Szechuan Legend, and very much enjoy the food.
The Crispy Beef is fire!

Moving to Victoria Park & Eglinton. Need suggestions for a butcher, bakery, fishmonger, a decent produce counter, and restaurants. Is that asking too much?

Thanks Googs,
Might just give up Chinese Canadian Takeout at home.
Almost hate to admit it, but we really like Chop Suey, probably a throwback from our youth, when it was on every Chinese Menu.
The Holima version was very poorly executed.
Probably ordered the wrong things.

Moving to Victoria Park & Eglinton. Need suggestions for a butcher, bakery, fishmonger, a decent produce counter, and restaurants. Is that asking too much?

Thanks
Will try it.
Don Mills Gardens went downhill rapidly when Congee Queen (another Restaurant that people love that I think is dreadful) opened in the same strip, but the owners were there for a while.
It changed hands probably (guessing) a year ago, and really bad!!
It was our regular Canadian Chinese take out for over 20 yrs

Boulud in Toronto?

would rather have Keller

Moving to Victoria Park & Eglinton. Need suggestions for a butcher, bakery, fishmonger, a decent produce counter, and restaurants. Is that asking too much?

cadylee,
Is there anything specific that you like at Bamboo Garden?
The Menu is vast.
We were underwhelmed with Holima, especially the ribs which fell off the bones and tasted like they were stewed.
The only thing we enjoyed out of the dishes we ordered were the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce.
Want to try Bamboo Garden, as we can't find Canadian Chinese we like since Don Mills Gardens changed hands.

Neva, a very pleasant surprise

Thank you for the suggestions.
There are several Restaurants on your list that we have not been to, and will keep the list for our next trip.

Kyocera Mandolin Slicer where?

Does anyone know where I can purchase one in Toronto?

Kosher Caterer or Restaurant with delivery

Ended up at Hartmans.
The Dinner was very good
... and expensive
Thanks all for the suggestions.

Neva, a very pleasant surprise

Hi Ptipois,
I would very much appreciate it if you would recommend two or three such Restaurants for my next trip.
Had Lunch at Passage 53 last week, and the presentation and quality of the food was exciting, but the base price was 110E
We dined at 2- 3 star and 1- 2 star, and the perfect runny egg at Neva was my outstanding dish of the trip.

Restaurants for a weekend in Paris - recommendations please!!!

The Concierge services at the Intercontinental are amazing.
I almost always get the Reservations I request, even at the last moment.
e.g. I canceled a Restaurant last week, due to recent negative reviews, and they were able to fill in Passage 53 instead.(I am not recommending Passage 53, as it is definitely out of the price category you requested).
The original La Regalade has a larger menu, and we have always enjoyed our Meals there.
St. Honore has had very poor reviews, but not wanting to cancel a second reservation we did go to La Regalade St. Honore and our Meal was excellent.
We have enjoyed two fine Meals at La Gagnaire, but recent terrible reviews convinced me to have fond memories, but not to return.
Au Bon Accueil, was a regular stop for us for years, but we sadly noticed the difference the last time we visited, and have crossed it off our list.
You could try Chez Denise communal tables where everyone chats, huge portions, very good Brasserie food, not far, easily within your price point, and a very fun evening.
Send an e-mail to Concierge services with your request.

33rd birthday dinner for mixed-income crowd

second Sidecar
Friendly Staff, and very good food at this price point

Neva, a very pleasant surprise

We are talking 29-36E here.
Not hundreds of dollars.
I am sorry that your Cod was a "tad" overcooked.
This is a chance for people who do not want, or can't afford Star Restaurants to
enjoy a Meal that is a visual treat, and in my opinion excellent Meal for a reasonable price.
Possibly you could recommend a few Restaurants that fit this description, but are better in Paris, so that I can put them on my list for May?

Neva, a very pleasant surprise

Neva has only been mentioned here only once.
A friend suggested we go there.
The Servers smile, and it is real.
We were told that the Chef trained at Le Grand Cascade,
This was enough for us to make a Reservation.
We had an excellent Meal at Pierre Gagnaire this week, but there is not a single Dish that will be embedded in my memory.
The app. egg at Neva will.
Enjoyed it more than the famous egg at L;arpege.
Sitting on a bed of finely chopped Vegetables, and an incredibly light Mayo was an egg coated with what I though was chinese Vermicelli, ( the server shared the secret, and it was not)
Deep Fried without a hint of grease sat the Egg
When I cut into it a perfect soft boiled egg poured out.
It was a wow!!
He had the Shrimp Ravioli, and loved it.
I ordered the Sweetbreads, with Seasonal Mushrooms and they came beautifully glazed and crispy on the outside and creamy inside, another perfect dish.
He the slow cooked Veal, which was formed into a circle and beautifully plated.
Thought it was excellent.
We shared a Dessert
la sphere
We are not big on Chocolate Ice Cream Desserts, but were told that this is a must.
A perfect Chocolate Sphere covered with Gold Leaf, a spun sugar Flag fastened to the plate with an Almond and the Flag of Gold Leaf.
The server then poured Hot Chocolate over the Sphere which melted the surface and enclosed a Pear Helene Ice Cream.
Two perfect Truffles were presented beside it, mini replicas of the Large Sphere also coated with Gold Leaf.
3 Courses 36E
2 Courses 29E
As we shared a Dessert we were charged
1 two and 1 three course, plus supplement 3 1/2 E for the Sphere.
The Restaurant was not full, but I expect it will be when word gets around.

Paris: pork-free cassoulet

You could try the Kosher Restaurant Le Chateubriand.
We were given the wrong address as we had reservations at the trendy Le Chateubriand (there are two in Paris)
It was after we sat down that we realized that we were at the wrong Restaurant, but the food looked good, it was late, and we stayed.
It was one of the best Meals of our trip.
I don't recall if they serve Cassoulet but you could call.
Very traditional French food.

2 weeks in Bordeaux (city) - Best gastronomic experiences (from cheap to $$$$)?

I am surprised that
Pavilion Des Boulevard has not been mentioned.
It has been almost two years, but this 1* restaurant was a Gem.
In fact, one of the best if not the best 1* we have been to.
Don't miss the tasting Menu, for the moderate price the quality of ingredients the Value is unbelievable
Caviar, Blue Lobster, etc.
We had a personal thank you on Chowhounds from a couple who went there, and they too agreed that it was superb, saying that they enjoyed it more than the other Star Restaurants on the Trip.
I would definitely go to La Tupina, as it is so distinctive.
The food was good, and interesting with all of the regional dishes.
It was a fun and very long evening

5 days in Paris - dining and shopping advice needed

Le Gagne, has mixed reports lately, but we have had two impressive Meals there in the past year and the price is moderate.
It is in the Marais
We also enjoy CJD and have a reservation there next week.
DH loves the confrit!

Sur Mesure??

Thanks andaba
This site has saved us from many a bad meal.
We do have a reservation at Pierre Gagnaire next week.

Brussels near Sheraton Hotel

We are meeting people at the Sheraton Wednesday evening
Any nice Restaurants within walking distance.
I know Sablon and Grand Place, as we always stay in these areas, but am totally Blank near the Sheraton
Thanks in advance

Dinner near Opera

We are arriving in the evening, and wonder if anything worthwhile is within walking distance of Hotel/Opera?
10-15 min.
Would like a lighter Meal.
Can't think of anything nearby.
Onion Soup, Crepes, Great Salads, etc.
Thanks in advance

Looking for Grade A Risotto

Googs, didn't mean to offend you
Possibly we are saying the same thing differently.
Creamy, silky, but never watery wet.

Looking for Grade A Risotto

I have ordered the Beet Risotto at Mistura, and it is excellent.
I prefer a Mushroom Risotto, but dislike the mushy versions in most T.O. Restaurants.
al dente Rice and not wet.
Do recommend it.
