I'm craving -- and at work till 10pm. All my go to Szecuan places seem to close at 9:30 or 10pm on Sundays -- any ideas, anywhere in Manhattan...
NY hound needs New Year Eve help
I find myself dining in NJ NY's Eve, and am seeking advice for a restaurant for a 8:30pm meal.
No more than a 45 minute drive from Elizabeth.
Japanese steak house or Rodizio would be our first choice, but are open to ANYTHING except Italian and Sushi.
Hey -- thanks for your help!
There's some low-cost, high-quality Mexican in Hells Kitchen
Went to Tulcinga Del Valle Saturday night. It was superb.
I had a Carnitas with a Green Sauce plata. It was $10.50, and nearly the most expensive thing on the menu. The carnitas melted on the tongue, and the green sauce danced all over my palate.
And they had Mexican Coke, made with sugar cane.
Plus, they deliver

Help a DC chowhound find some good food in Pittsburgh
Whoa, Thank you very much! I surfed the Yo Rita's thread, and the menu - it jumped right to the top of my list, I'll be there for sure. Hey, the website said they were open from 4 p.m., but didnt list a closing time, anyone know the hours? Whats the best time to go on saturday, to avoid the crowds? And just before, or after, what else shouldnt I miss in the neighborhood?
Thank you everyone, for all your help. I am boarding an Amtrak on Friday at 4 p.m., and if all goes well, I am in Pittsburgh at midnight.

Help a DC chowhound find some good food in Pittsburgh
I'm heading to Pittsburgh this weekend, for fun at the Warhol Museum, Kennywood and the new Rivers Casino - and I've got some questions...
1) Any word yet on the casino restaurants? especially the buffet and steakhouse...
2) Sunday brunch, before the Warhol museum. I'll be looking for a classic american breakfast just after noon.
3) I'm hearing that the national dish of Pittsburgh is the pierogi. Where should I do get them?
4) What other mid-priced dining experience should not be missed.
I'm looking for a working class joint, full of flavor and texture - with memorable food.
Hey, thanks...
Where to buy GREAT fish via Metro?
I've been grilling fish every weekend, and am bored with the selections at Whole Foods and the Maine Avenue Market. Where can I find terrific fish within a short walk of a Metro station?
I'm looking for Alaskan and Pacific northwest wild-caught varieties.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Recipes Websites
I'm digging http://www.allrecipes.com, It syncs a "recipe of the day" to my Palm Pilot every morning, and more often than not I cut and paste it into my recipe file.
Also, I feel like I can never go wrong with recipes from a few chefs on http://www.foodnetwork.com, Paula Dean and Alton Brown often have recipes that are spot on.

steamed crabs by the bushel?
They NEVER run out! :)
Maine Avenue opens early in the AM - I cant tell you excatly when, because I have never been there before 10 a.m. They close, this time of year, well after sunset on the weekends. If youre talking about keeping the crabs for a "day", meaning 24 hours - I wouldnt, for hours or so out of the steamer should be ok though, just keep the bushel lid on, and make sure theyre in the shade.

What to do with fresh picked crabmeat?
Having this problem is the only redeeming feature of living in Washington DC this time of year!

What to do with fresh picked crabmeat?
This past weekend, we found ourselves with about a 1/2 bushel of leftover crabs from a steamed crab feast. It yielded about two pounds of meat, and I made crab cakes.
But, I was looking for inspiration for something else to make the next time this happens - and it will happen again! :)
So, please - what would YOU make with a couple of pounds of crab meat?
ps,
I posted the adventure, with photos, on my blog "What I Cook"

steamed crabs by the bushel?
This past weekend we had terrific steamed crabs from Jessie Taylor Seafood at the Main Avenue fish market. There were no local crabs, but the bushels from the Carolinas were delicious, meaty and sweet. $70/bushel steamed.

Cheap(ish) Date on Capitol Hill
White Tiger is a great choice, unless its too brutally hot to sit outdoors - I find their inside a tad cramped, and usually opt for takeout.
The other place I thought about is Taverna, over on Penn. SE between 3rd and 4th. Not the greastest greek food on the planet, but freshly made and quite flavorful. Nice outside tables too.

Weber Kettle Vents...Help!
I've had a Weber Kelttle for a long time, and keep the bottom vents WIDE open, and contol the heat with the top vents.
I've done ribs, four slabs at a time (stacked on top of each other) often, and with some pratice you can cook low and slow.

Sockeye Salmon Filets on a Weber Kettle
I've got two beautiful Sockeye filets that I want to grill (smoke, bar-b-que?) on Saturday. I have a salmon rub that a friend brought from Seattle that I plan to dust over the fish. But I need some advice on cooking technique please. Direct or in-direct heat? Must the filets be grilled on both sides (I always have trouble turning fish on the grill)? Smoke? Approx. cooking times? How do you fish grillers handle filets? Thanks in advance!

Cheap/fun/outdoors with a view in DC?
How about the Spagetti Gardens on the south side of 18th St., just down the hill from Columbia Road? It's got decent red sauce Italian, and a beautifull rooftop dining room with a sweeping view down the hill toward the Mall.

Dive, DIVE!
The Tune Inn on Pennsyvania SE.
From the early morning beer drinking regulars at the bar, to the stuffed animals behinds hanging on the wall -- this place is the classic dive bar -- with a kitchen that turns out breakfast at all hours, and nothing on the menu above $5.

Lobster Rolls-Help!
Use the tail and the claw meat - rough chopped so there are substantial chunks in every bite, piled high on a buttered, toasted hot dog bun and topped with a dollop of mayo.

Sky Terrace at Hotel Washington??
go there for the view, drinks and maybe appetizers. The food is quite plain and uninspired. I have had lunch there, and while the hamburger was edible, I was (happily) paying for the view - there's nothing else like it - an exceptional place to have a drink, and soak in a unique overlook of the city.
