Anniversary Celebration
We were thinking either Atelier Crenn or Gary Danko but I think we waited to long for reservations. So any other reqs for similar restaurants would be greatly appreciated.
April 2012 COTM: Melissa Clark Month, In the Kitchen with a Good Appetite: Chapters 3, 4, and 5
I made this last week too and it was a success. I used the powder versions of the spice too but think next time I need to cut down on the cumin a bit. Otherwise very tasty and super easy! My favorite combo. :-)
Calling all Julias, Bettys and Marthas: Cookbook Club in Loudoun County!
I would love to do this but I am in Fairfax. :-(

MELISSA CLARK MONTH - COOK THIS NOW & IN THE KITCHEN WITH A GOOD APPETITE
On two waiting lists - suggestions for something new to us and delicious?
I have also been to Minibar and while it is more innovative than Rogue 24 (i.e. you will eat some very wierd stuff) I actually enjoyed the food better at Rogue overall. Of course, not every dish was to my taste but I think that is to be expected with 24 dishes but I think there was only 1 that I just couldn't finish. I also left full from Rogue where I was still hungry after Minibar.
Either way good luck getting into one of your top choices.
Rogue 24 sessions?
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Rogue last night with Jen Caroll. I will say that Jen's dishes were not as innovative as the Rogue dishes. She also seem to lean to tart flavors in her sauces that were not always balanced out by the other parts of the dish. That being said we will be going back to Rogue and if we are in Philly after she opens her restaurant we would check it out too.

Rogue 24 would be awesome and I believe they can accomodate vegetarians. I haven't been to Elisir yet but I would still recommend it based on my experience at the Chef's table at Teatro before Enzo left.
Rogue 24 Visiting Chefs
Has anyone tried out any of the visiting chefs? We are debating trying it out.

Restaurant Week-August 2011
I hit 3 spots during RW and only plan to head back to one but it was a good time with friends regardless.
From Best to Worst:
Againn - Loved everything about the food and drinks but service was a bit lacking. I had the tomato, housemade burrata, and white anchovy, filet with onion butter, and banoffie pie. We also ordered a side of the brussel sprouts for the table to share. The anchovy added a nice twist to the caprese salad and I could have eaten a bucket of the onion butter that came with the perfectly cooked medium rare steak. The dessert was the perfect amount. I also had two drinks, Little Sister and Pippa's Punch that hit the spot.
New Heights - The drinks were just ok and the food was ok to good. I had the fried oyster app, duck with stone fruit, and chocolate torte that was surprisingly light and more of a cake than what I consider a torte. The service was great. I would probably go back but it is just in a neighborhood that we don't spend time in regularly.
Hudsons - The drinks were definitely the highlight here. Definitely try the gucci slingback if you like rasberries and the white sangria margarita is tasty. I had the lobster hushpuppies and they were an odd spongy texture. I had steak here too and while it was good the portion was tiny. Dessert was an underwhelming peach melba. The service was horrible.

September 2011 Cookbook of the Month Voting
ONE BIG TABLE since it is the one I own.
Cooking from Radically Simple by Rozanne Gold
Since I was very sad that this didn't make COTM this month and there seemed to be a lot of interest I thought I would start a post for those who would like to cook from it and share their experience.
I have had this book for a while but pulled it out recently to start actually cooking from it. I have two recipes ear marked for this week.
I don't have the book handy right now for the exact names but one is a pork chop and apple recipe with Madeira and the other is an asparagus recipe w/bay leaves and fried capers. I'll be sure to report back after I make them.
Happy cooking!
MARCH COTM IS JAMIE OLIVER'S NAKED CHEF COLLECTION AND JAMIE'S ITALY!!
I think I want to join in this month but don't own any JO cookbooks. If you had to buy just one which one would it be?
February 2011 Cookbook of the Month: THE ESSENTIAL NEW YORK TIMES COOKBOOK Chapters 1-4
Could you paraphrase the recipe? It sounds wonderful but I am trying to refrain from buying any more cookbooks. My husband is ready to revolt if I get one more. :-)
What do you like to cook for yourself when your spouse or family isn't around?
I make scallops since my husband isn't a fan.
Around My French Table
I am in the process of making the french onion soup. So far the onions are taking longer than the hour she estimates to caramelize but I was expecting that based on other recipes I have seen. Can't wait to taste it when it is done!
February 2011 Cookbook of the Month Nominations (Through Thurs., 1/13)
ONE BIG TABLE since I just got it and I know several others have it.
Anyone Have Ideas or Favourite Recipes that have Dried Figs in the Ingredients?
There is a pork loin with a wine fig sauce on foodnetwork.com by Giada that is very tasty.
What discontinued products do you miss?
Oh this is awesome news. I craved those when I was pregnant. Must see if I can find them...
Restaurant between Columbia MD and DC
I have no idea what would be a good place to meet in between. We all love food and will want to sit around and be able to chat for a while. Any recommendations?
