Delicious, Budget-friendly Baltimore on a Monday night

Where do you like to go on Mondays to get some good grub and drinks on a (moderate) budget?

The only place I'm coming up with off the top of my head is Annabel Lee, which I love, but I'm looking for more options. Thanks!

Nice place to chat and hang out in B'more?

Hampden is great for walking around, and you could take your time at Golden West, Dogwood (a little more pricey), or Rocket to Venus (not sure if they serve lunch though..).

Canton Dockside

I'm embarrassed to say this, but (not being a native Marylander) I've never eaten crabs at a restaurant. Do those prices you're quoting mean all you can eat per person?!? That's insane!

Surprise 50th In Baltimore Area

Woodberry Kitchen has a private room .. not sure if it holds 30 ppl. Depending on how much you want to spend, they also do events in the glass blowing studio next door. Really neat space and great food (of course!). They won't let you bring your own caterer though...

Chinese new year in Baltimore

Have you called Cafe Zen? I don't know if they have anything going on for Chinese new year, but they are in your neighborhood, and they serve some darn good Chinese food!

Fells Point - Late Night

Meli for dinner, Blue Moon for breakfast.

Day Trip to Baltimore. Any suggestions?

I'd start in Fells Point for breakfast, at either Blue Moon (personal favorite!) or the crepe place attached to Eclectic Elements on Broadway. Or, if you're just in the mood for something light, there are also a handful of coffee shops. Then you can mosey around Fells, check out the water, and -- if you're walking and the weather is nice -- start heading towards Harbor East. From Fells, you can walk through Harbor East to the Inner Harbor, and then around to Federal Hill. There is plenty of shopping, sightseeing, and nice views along the way, and you can grab lunch at one of the aforementioned spots in Fed Hill. AVAM is also a great suggestion. You can take the water taxi or a cheap cab back to your car in Fells Point, and head up to Hampden for afternoon shopping and dinner. (straight up 83, take the Falls Road exit and park on the Avenue). Hampden is my favorite neighborhood for shopping. You'll find lots of fun, unique shops. For dinner, I recommend Woodberry Kitchen, and I would suggest getting a reservation even though it's a Tuesday. Dogwood and Golden West are also good dinner options, depending on what you're looking for. Hope you have fun and enjoy Baltimore!

ps If you decide to stay downtown for dinner I definitely second the recommendation for Peter's Inn in Fells Point. Also love Jack's, Annabel Lee in Canton / Highlandtown, and Salt in Butcher's Hill...

Girls Night Out in B'More

What about Three... in Patterson Park? My friend had her birthday dinner there last summer, and they gave us a great deal (something like $35 per person including beer and wine). The owners and staff were incredibly friendly and generous, even though we must have stood around mingling for about an hour before we actually sat down at the tables they had reserved for us. Don't remember exactly how many were in our party, but it was at least 15 people.

Take-Out: To Tip or Not To Tip ? [Moved from Quebec board]

I sometimes think that way too, but the truth is that there is SOME service involved, even with carry out. Someone needs to take your order, enter it into the computer, and package the food for take out. I hostess part time at a small, upscale restaurant that doesn't do carry out as a rule, but will if we're not too busy. When someone calls in a carry-out order it's my job to ask the kitchen if they can fit it in, take the order, and flag down the bartender to enter it in the computer. Nothing too difficult, but it does take me away from the door, and it requires a little time and effort to do something out of the ordinary. For these reasons, I always appreciate it when the customer leaves a small tip!! :)

Parmigiano Reggiano v. Pecorino Romano

Thanks everyone! You've given me some great leads. There is a Balducci's not too far from me, so I will make a trip sometime soon. :)

Parmigiano Reggiano v. Pecorino Romano

Is there anywhere to find pecorino toscano in the US? I always look but haven't been successful ...

Indian Buffet in Baltimore area?

I second the Ambassador! If you go for Sunday brunch (which is basically the lunch buffet, I would imagine), you can mix your own mimosas too. :)

Baltimore's Very Own Authentic Peruvian Restaurant

Thanks Hal!

Baltimore's Very Own Authentic Peruvian Restaurant

This is slightly unrelated, but I live in Butcher's Hill too and I hear about the neighborhood listserv all the time at the dogpark, but I keep forgetting the web address. Baltoellen, can you tell me how to get there? :)

ps. learned about (and thoroughly enjoyed) Rinconcito Peruano from this forum, so thank you all! I work at a charter school and we have an upcoming unit on Peru, so I am going to see if they will cater a lunch for us...

Charm City Cakes Address

Ok not sure of the exact address either, but it's very close to where you were. Maybe Remington Ave and 30th or 31st? It's a very unassuming building and you have to be looking hard to spot it, although I suppose if you watch the show you'll know what the building looks like. Good luck! :)

Baltimore's Best Bar Food

Totally agree w/ Captain Larry's!! Also try the fries w/ old bay and 1/2 price crab cake wednesday nights. I like to order it on the caesar salad.

Three in Baltimore...

Did anyone else notice the lack of starches on the tapas menu?? I know everyone's into meats and veggies these days, but I still like a nice carb with my dinner. While I did enjoy everything I ordered last week, I was definitely grieving the loss of the fries w/ garlic aioli from the original menu.

Saturday Breakfast in Baltimore?

I'm still a big fan of Blue Moon. It's my "go to" whenever I have guests in town, and it never disappoints. You might have to wait a while on a Saturday morning, but you can always snack on a cinnamon roll while you do!

Vietnamese in downtown Baltimore

I don't know much about Vietnamese food, but recently I was near Hollins Market and saw a place with a sign that said "Coming this Fall ... Baltimore Pho." The address is 1114 Hollins St. I don't know what to expect, but it could be a nice addition!

Baltimore- wireless and good food?

Not sure what you're looking for as far as food and service, but Daily Grind in Fell's Point is a nice coffee spot w/ decent pastries, bagel sandwiches, etc., and I've never had a problem w/ their wireless. Bluehouse (on Fleet, I believe) has wireless and great coffee/teas, but I don't know what they serve as far as food. I'm also pretty sure I saw a wifi sign in the window of MaGerks (sp?) on the corner of Charles and Cross Sts in Federal Hill. It's a bar w/ pretty typical food to match, but it might be a nice change from your standard wifi and coffee spot.

Blowout dinner in Rome, also recs for Cinqueterre, Florence, Siena

One of the best meals I've ever eaten was the trofie al pesto in Vernazza, about 6 years ago. I can't quite remember if it was Trattoria Gianni or the place just up the square from there (forgot the name).

Boston Hound Needs Help

Think about Jack's Bistro in Canton. It's a short (maybe $15?) cab ride from the stadium, and they serve $12 entrees at the bar on Sundays.

Joe Squared

I haven't eaten in, but I've tried a few of Joe's breakfast pizzas (delivery) and was very impressed! I agree w/ JonParker that it's nothing like your typical carryout pizza, but is that such a bad thing?? I'm eager to get in to the restaurant to sample some more.

Hidden breakfast gems in the Atlanta area??

Thanks everybody!! You've given me a great list to start with ...

Hidden breakfast gems in the Atlanta area??

I'm looking for that one breakfast spot that you just can't resist ... less greasy spoon, more fresh, creative kitchen. A wait is okay, provided the food is worth it. :)

Yellow Dog Tavern or Three

I feel just the opposite! Granted, I haven''t tried the food at Yellow Dog yet (although the menu did look great), but found my beer on opening night to be less than cold and thought the atmosphere downstairs was nothing special.

I sat outside at Three (so again I don't have a real feel for the atmosphere in the dining room) and split 7 small plates w/ 2 friends. Would definitely order the lollipop lambchops, lamburger sliders, caprese, and duck fries again. Thought the grilled romaine was tasty but I just wasn't in the mood for warm lettuce on a hot summer's night. The bruschetta topping was good but the bread didn't seem to be toasted so it turned into a cold and mushy blob that needed to be eaten w/ a fork. Last small plate was a cucumber pesto special -- fine, but I wouldn't order it again. One minor complaint is that the meat plates came out before the salads, but that might have been the way we ordered (can't quite remember).

Found the service at both spots to be friendly and attentive, but I have to give the most points to Three's owner Michael Harmel. I had stopped by earlier in the afternoon to double check that dogs were allowed outside, and Michael made a point to come out and say hi when I arrived later that night, filling up my dog's water dish and even pulling up a chair for a few minutes to chat.

I'm looking forward to heading back to Three and giving the food at Yellow Dog a try. So glad to have some new additions to the neighborhood!

What am I not getting about CHOCOLATE?

This board has just inspired me to abandon my computer and go seek out some chocolate!!

Three... new place in Baltimore. I dig it.

I remember Magic Hat No. 9 and Dogfish Head 60 min IPA on tap.

Outdoor bars in Baltimore

Add to the list Three (Patterson Park), Birches (Canton), and pretty much anyplace in the Canton can company if you don't mind the parking lot view. Nick's Fish House has a great deck right on the water and decent drinks and munchies.

Atlanta, GA Dining Suggestions????

The Flying Biscuit in Midtown is my favorite spot for breakfast. Great selection of omelets and scrambles, delicious grits, and of course the biscuits are unbeatable! Fun, funky atmosphere too ...
