Best Place to Buy Porterhouse or NY Strip Steak for the Grill

Morelli's in St Paul will go round for round with any of the trendy co-ops and Chowhound favorite butcher shops. And I agree grass fed beef is not for everyone and strongly disagree it is the tastiest. Calling any red meat healthy too is just wrong. Also regardless of what Lund's or Kowalski's may tell you there is zero chance of the common consumer scoring real Kobe or Wagyu beef here in the states. It just isn't happening. So before you spend that extra $10-20 a pound do a little research.

I agree if you have the patience and a little skill, DIY BBQ and Smoking is the way to go.

Pretty sure they know Mama's is a Pizza joint as the thread starter asked for Pizza joints as well.

Went to Homi on Saturday night. The fresh Guacamole with chips and Salsa was a great way to start. Also had a nice bowl of Caldo De Camaron. At least 8 large head on shrimps that were bursting with fresh flavor. The broth was a bit spicy, briny and tasted of the sea (not at all fishy). The owners were warm and inviting. Only one other couple and a take out on a Saturday night however is sad. This place is a gem and will now be my go to for Mexican.

Chris and Rob's Chicago Taste Authority?

Oh no, make no mistake about it. It is Hormel Chili with beans.

I agree John E. 1000% with the chili dogs. I can almost guarantee they use Hormel Chili.

The Chicago Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches are good, I would stay away from everything else on the menu though.

MN State Fair Report 2012

The Land of 10,000 beers expo is actually in The Horticulture part of The Agriculture Building. Sampled The Hoppy Flight. Not too shabby. Brau Brothers Hopsession was the standout for me. Also Had the first Surly Furious tapped in 2012 at the fair. The Walleye on a stick was 3 inches of Walley for around $7.00. No value there. Loved The Ragin Ankles. Crab Fritters from Ollies were deeelish. Also was nice to see Manny behind the counter making his delectable Tortas. Harry Sing's Ghost Wings were delicious and very spicy. But the main attraction for me other than Furious was the Classic Walleye Roll. Bigger than I expected but have to agree with TDQ they could have made it bigger and did a better job of deboning. Still very tasty and I will get it again when I return next weekend.

D Spot in East Metro

Went Saturday night and was very, very pleased. Buffalo Bill Wings were the best version I have ever had. El Loco were as advertised, extremely hot. I was able to only finish six before my tongue began to pulsate. Great heat and great flavor. These folks are doing it up the right way and I will be back.

best steak for the dollar

Agree. Widmer's is the best butcher shop in the area IMO. Far better than Von Hanson's, Byerly's and Lund's

New St. Paul Restaurants

I stick to the foot long chili dogs and cool treats but never recall ever seeing or hearing about any "Brown Colored Food!" If I want an ALWAYS delicious burger I live 5 blocks from The Nook and really close to BDP.

Yeah I vote to keep the Highland Park DQ. If we are doing away with restaurants in Highland my vote goes to Chatterbox Pub and The St Clair Broiler, who both have been turning out below mediocre food for years.

Twin Cities Indian Restaurants

Apparently I need to travel to Downtown New York City to visit Brick Lane Curry House for the Phaal Curry Challenge which includes both Ghost Peppers and The Scorpion. Adam of Man Vs Food has defeated this challenge which supposedly boasts the world's hottest curry.

Thanks to all who replied. Actually the City Pages article is what sparked my brain. I have recently hit a wall with Spicy Foods. I am on a hunt for the most scorching of Curries and other molten goodness. Bangkok Thai Deli's Red Curry at level 5 Spicy is no match for me. Indian Phaal Curries are supposed to be even more incendiary than Thai so that is what I am looking for.

Khao Soi in Minneapolis - Bangkok Thai Deli or elsewhere?

I go to BTD at least twice a week and while I have not tried the Khao Soi I can vouch for nearly every other menu item as being as stellar as it ever was.

Tim McKee and Masu

That's the thing with Ramen. People's expectations are IMHO way too high. It is after all simply Ramen. Good broth, decent noodles and delicious pork. No matter where you get it at it all pretty much is in the same neighborhood of quality. I have eaten at some of the best Noodle Shop's in NYC and San Francisco and can't remember them ever being elevated to a level much higher than Masu's.

Mexican Restaurants in the TwinCities

Most great authentic Mexican restaurants incorporate peas and carrots into the rice. You must have went to Don Pablo's and mistaken it for Los Ocampo because the experience you describe sounds like some made up nightmare and could not possibly happen there. The quality has been far too good for far too long. Kraft Parm really? Not likely.

La Hacienda on West Seventh in Sieger Square is excellent. In addition to Mexican they also offer menus items from Honduras, Puerto Rico and Peru. Excellent Banana Leaf Tamales.

JJ's has been really bad for at least a year now in terms of food but yeah stay away from Uni during rush hour if possible because it is bloody murder. Use 94 and get off on the Capital exit if going to BTD and if you must park in the now vacated Burger King parking lot across the street. Last 3 times I went on a Monday evening, Sunday morning and Friday night they were packed. I would avoid that place this week however because it will be ridiculously hot in there what with the no air conditioning and never mind the fish funk.

It was actually the Dudee Noodle Soup. I went again today and got the Pork Boat Soup which I actually even enjoyed more. I brought my cousin along who loves Saigon and Trieu Chau and he agreed BTD blows them away. Anthony Bourdain would be in heaven here.
