Bistrot La Minette

I ate at La Minette last night and it was incredible. It was my first time there and have been hearing good things. In this little French bistro craze in Philly, this is THE most authentic of them all by far. Fries, and onion soup don't make a real bistro people, this place is like being in France for real. Frogs legs, awesome snails, braised rabbit with handmade noodles and ridiculous good raspberry tart. I see the word "bistro" get thrown around an awful lot for restaurants that aren't actually bistros. Example Bibou of late...Bibou is a fabulous restaurant, but it's simply not a bistro. I'm a sucker for authenticity and La Minette has me! I will return and their outdoor courtyard seating is beautiful. Good place for larger parties as well with a nice private dinner table.

best in philly

Well, Vetri is the best restaurant in Philly. I'm just saying new restaurant which I know wasn't exactly the question. I do for sure think Vetri is the best restaurant in Philly though.

Meme is THE best new restaurant for damn sure. They are using ridiculously good local ingredients and not taking it out on the customer, very good value. Very consistently executed and awesome service.

BeBe's BBQ - Italian Market (philly)

It's OKAY. It's not traditional Carolina style pulled pork though. The guy smokes butts where as traditionally it is slow roasted pigs. Some people in North Carolina (west mostly) do use butts and some use some smoke, it is best roasted over charcoals. But, the biggest separation from Bebe's to a really good Carolina pork sandwich is that he pulls and kinda shreds it. That s@$*t is supposed to chopped! The sauce isn't bad, but overall just pretty much another mediocre BBQ spot in Philly. The ribs were way over done and too much not so great rub all over them. There is a proper degree of doneness on ribs that a lot of people don't realize. The old "falling off the bone" thing is actually kinda over done. The meat should stay clinged to the bone while holding it up in the air, but fall off when you bite into them. Opening a styrofoam container and seeing rib meat laying next to rib bones isn't a good rib. I give Bebe's a 5 out of 10. Still searching in Philly!

Lee How Fook

I always get the white rice dishes, forget what they are called on menu, but they come with either roast pork, duck, or both. You can add an egg for a dollar. It just has the meat, some rice, chinese broccoli, and some meat jus of sorts. The addition of the egg is a must. Very good stuff, and the pan seared dumplings are awesome as well.

Meme

I was at Meme tonight for their happy hour summer $5 menu. There are 3 five dollar glass wines and 3 appetizers for $5. Great deal, we had a grilled shrimp & chorizo skewer, and an awesome really refreshing arugula salad. The rose was amazing, Paras Balta (cab & merlot) from Spain and also a South African chenin blanc. I have eaten at Meme in the winter and everything was better than good and hadn't got back til tonight. They seemed a little slow, but maybe it's because it is summer? This definitely doesn't seem like the kind of place that should be easy to get into as it's been pretty damn good every time I've been. With a great playlist too by the way.
