Olivia, La Condesa, Parkside , Aquarelle and Wink - have five reservations and can only keep two

La Condesa and Aquarelle, no contest! Of coure you can always do progressive as Aquarelle has a wonderful happy hour extended on Saturday nights from 5-7 p.m. in their wine bar. La Condesa does hh as well, but I think just M-F.

Fabi and Rosi Report

Agree only been once but this lovely establishment needs/deserves more buzz

la condesa on 2nd st

You are hearing a lot about La Condesa because they are a James Beard nominee.

RIP part III: Austin Restaurant Closings

The folks from Molotov are taking it over. On a happier note, Thai Tara is also going, Mulberry owners are making it a gastro pub, can't wait! More news, Texas French Bread on SoCo is turning into a Wahoo's Fish Taco.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I whole heartedly agree w/ bookgrrl72 and I am a chocolate chip cookie expert. Don't let the vegan part fool/scare you, they are fabulous!

Austin Report

Geeky Foodie! Thank you for the fabulous report. You really gave Austin institutions as well as newbies stellar reviews! Thanks for getting it! People think I am crazy when I rave about Whole Foods so much, but until you see it you can't believe it. We feel lucky to have it here. Looking forward to welcoming you back to Austin.

Austin...need an unusual-romantic meal.

Four Seasons Austin does picnic baskets and sets them up on their beautiful lawn overlooking Lady Bird Lake or you can take them to go to your spot of choice

Fabi & Rosi

Has anyone been lately? Was there about three months ago and really enjoyed it, but have not been back.

Coming-- Blue Mesa?

Thanks!

Coming-- Blue Mesa?

Where on 5th, thanks

Need a Thanksgiving Dinner spot - for celiac & meat lovers - Fancy is good!

Trio Four Seasons Hotel and they have a separate gluten-free menu avail all the time

Is no one chowhounding about Piranha Killer Sushi?

It is awesome from a service stand point, to interior and mostly quality. It is not Uchi, nor is it trying to be (thank goodness) as there is only one Uchi and that is all we need, in a good (actually, great) way. Go. Now. It is Killer!

new ideas for our next trip to Austin?

Go to Lambert;s don't mess around it's the BEST!

Best Guacamole in Austin

My favs are Whole Foods although a little pricey. For value, Wahoo Fish Taco has some really good guac. Most recently I was at The Ivy in LA and had some of the best ever. They served it on a bed of green leaf lettuce, that I could not leave on the plate even though it was a garnish, homemade corn tortillas and a side of spicy red chile sauce that was to die for! Coupled with a margarita and I was in heaven.

Cocktails in Austin

Can a Four Seasons ever do wrong?? Go to Annie's on Congress IF you need a break on the wallet. Want to LOVE Eastside Showroom, BUT two things yucky for me; eastside o'town = can't walk there and I prefer vodka (gluten allergy) and their menu is not vodka heavy. Will try it again. AND love Fino and miss Starlite!

Houston's - Grilled Artichokes

Marfaboy, thanks for posting. I know it's a chain, BUT I am a huge fan of Houston's too. Every time I go there (which is not often enough) I am blown away. AND They use fresh squeezed juice in their cocktails, fabulous!

Wine Store / Merchant

agreed! They are AWESOME! I used to not like them for trivial reasons, but they have proven themselves to be great!

Where to go on a Monday night??

Not for eats, but Saxon Pub on S Lamar for Matt the Electrican/Bob Schneider show. Beforehand hot the many area awesome happy hours including Trio @ the Four Seasons (my fav, and free valet), Jefreys for fancy finger food cheap, Max's wine dive for a more cas feel with quality offerings, or en route to Saxon, Uchi's Social Sake hour starting at 5-6:30, enjoy and let me know what you chose!

saturday happy hour downtown

Almost forgot to mention Uchi's Social Sake 5:30-6:30 p.m.

saturday happy hour downtown

Trio @ Four Seasons 5-8 p.m. Aquarelle 5-7 p.m. III Forks 5-7 p.m. Jeffrey's does a reverse at 9 or 10 p.m.

Bess Brunch

I agree w/NWLarry, LOVE Bess, brunch, lunch drink snack and for dinner, it is suberb!

Apple Annie's

Anyone been? Bill bar manager and cocktail mixer extraordinaire along with the Tipsy Texas are making bar magic happen or so I've heard. Looks very bistro-like inside with a menu to match looking forward to trying.

Taste Select Wines

I think it is no more, anyone know what happened. Feel bad for the owners, they followed their passion and it did not work.

Substitute for Trader Joe's in Austin?

There probably won' be a replacement, quality of life with some fantastic and not so affordable shopping vs high living expenses and fantastically cheap groceries. I'll take Austin anyday. That being said I have lived in SoCal for and was "spoiled" w/ TJ, but had to drive there as opposed to living in Austin Texas and being able to walk to the most fantastic store in the country. On that note, anyone been to Natural Grocer on 39th and Guadalupe?

New Restaurant Review: Garrido's

thank you for your report. I am very skeptical about yet another upscale Mexican joint in town (leave Fonda San Miguel be!) Anyway, I have high expectations because Garrido is behind this. Very much looking forward to trying for myself. Encourage other Chowhounders to report. Please don't oust me, but compared to other city's boards, we are a little weak, and I am very much to blame.
