Chicky's Profile
Clink
How is the food / service / atmosphere at Clink? Is it nice enough for a little celebration dinner or is it more of a bar? I like the idea of eating behind bars. It's a novelty but I dont know about food.
Merengue on Blue Hill Ave / NY Times Post
Merengue on Blue Hill Ave was written up in the Sunday NY Times as having the best Dominican food in Boston. They said "you will be blown away". Sounds very chow-ish, has anyone been?
Last Boston Meal -- Sushi Debate
I would go to O YA over the patio at Oishi. Sushi should not be eaten al fresco. Eating a refined meal while a silver line bus drives by is not my idea of a good time. Totally incongruous but, hey, it's the new south end. B&G's patio is lovely.
Pre-show eats in the Theater District?
I support all of Gini's recommendations. The bar food at Avila might be another option.
Cupcake Outrage in Back Bay
I purchased my cupcakes at 11:45 am and they were a little dry now that you mention it. Not really dry but not moist like from a box.
Stephanie's taking over Garden of Eden spot
I would be surprised to see them go into that location with just beer and wine.
Pastry Outrage in Brookline (apologies to cupcake outrage thread)
I agree. Their prices at Japonaise Bakery are reasonable and the quality is very good. The Azuki Cream is worth a special trip.
Help! Best High-End Brunch Place for Tomorrow
For future reference, I'd add that Mooo offered a nice brunch and I liked the room. As lovely as the Four Seasons is, I have a hard time with a buffet at that price point.
Cupcake Outrage in Back Bay
The cupcakes are delicious so I didnt mind paying $3.25. Even the larger size cupcakes were small and, frankly, I could have eaten another. The frosting is out of this world. Sweet appears to be a savvy operation and not some fly-by-night cupcake house so I'm sure much research went into the pricing strategy. If you're upset about cupcake prices, check out the menu at Finale and you'll be dead on the floor.
Looking for best fish taco's in Boston??
El Pelon has wonderful fish tacos. I eat there often and have never been short-changed in the tortilla department. Cafe D also makes a respectable fish taco for about $10. (two tacos, two tortillas each, if I recall correctly)
Victoria's Diner
I had forgotten that they were open 24 hrs. Has anyone been in there in the middle of the night? What is it like?
Victoria's Diner
I was there for breakfast on Saturday. They have really expanded the menu but same service and staff. Tried a "new" breakfast sandwich thing which was fine but I miss the diner feel of the old menu. Have not been at night and wonder if the turkey dinner is the same?????
UBurger and El Pelon
I know that UBurger gets a lot of WA-WA-WA on this board for the doneness of the burgers. I had one tonight. Not bad but not the greatest burger ever. Fully cooked but not dry. It was just OK. I cant imagine it being any better if cooked medium rare, the way I like it. Not sure what all the fuss is about here. There are many better burgers in Boston. Doneness issues aside it was just OK.
Ordered both the fries and onion rings. Both were excellent. Crisp and salty. Worth the trip alone. As was the frappe. Really rich and yummy!
Walked by EL PELON, which has the best fish tacos in boston, and was shocked to see the sign "CLOSED DUE TO FIRE WE WILL REBUILD". I hope they do. It's a gem of a place with yummy tacos and nice people working there. I hope they rebuild soon.
Orinoco???
That's just great news! I LOVE this little place and am so happy that they are branching out. Cant wait for it to open so that I can have the areppa!
Orinoco???
There's a sign for Orinoco in the window of the former village fish in brookline village. Is this a branch of the s.e. resto? If so, I'm thrilled. I love that place.
Cuban Sandwich
There's only one thing I like better than a lobsta roll and that's the cubano from OREINTAL DE CUBA!
I'm going to say it: I like the lobster roll at Kingfish Hall better than the roll at Neptunes!
I really think of myself as the last word on lobsta rolls and I like Neptune but I love B&G. I was also shocked by the quality at SUMMER SHACK.
Red Fez - please help
I have reported about the problems down there before and it just breaks my heart. It was once a fun place but then EVERYONE stopped going. Foccaccia with hummus is just crazy.
BOB THE CHEIF - RIP
Noticed that they were closing. I'll miss their glorified chicken. Does anyone know what's going into the space? Was it sold or just shut down for good?
Coming to Boston - Help!
Visitors to Boston shouldnt leave without having a lobsta roll. Try B&G, Neptune or Summer Shack. It is a classic thing from this part of the country.
Save Us from Applebee's
I would go to the summer shack for the lobsta roll. I went recently and was amazed by the quality and value. It is also family friendly if you know what I mean.
A big shout out for Whole Foods cheese dept
They have amazing cheese at wholefoods and the cheese workers are very knowleable. I purchased a bell shaped cheese recently. Something new. Cant rememeber the name and it was out of THIS WORLD.
Chacarero- location and what's good
I like the chicken with the works better than the beef.
Summer Shack(Dalton St) Tonight
I have never been a fan due to the atmosphere not the food. That said, I went to the dalton st location saturday night for a a lobster roll. It was excellent. Sweet lobster, hardly any mayo. a little crunch (someone told the they chop up a cuke not a celley, is this true???), nice, large toasted roll. Fries were hot and crisp. Started with the RI calamari. It was very crisp with just the right amound of oil. Lots of tourists and children but I knew there would be. I would go back!
b.not.so.good: b.good corrects its nutritional information
I'm with you, girl. That said, I never really liked their fries because they tasted so healthy. If you're going to have a fry, go for the deep fried, salted variety not some reduced fat alternative. Life is short so live a little!
Recommendations for Downtown Boston
Only a short walk away, in the emerging fort point area, you will find the Flour Bakery / Cafe. The sticky bun is to die for. The lemon scone will melt in your mouth. The coffee cake is light and moist. The service is a bit flaky but hey, they're kids and they are so cute.
