Seeded Watermelons-- extinct?

Bought one yesterday from Norwich Farms at the farmer's market.

Where to buy bacalao / baccala in Manhattan?

Yes, I agree. Big difference.

The pollack is passable for certain preparations where it is shredded (in caribbean style dishes for example) but nothing like the real thing.

Where to buy bacalao / baccala in Manhattan?

Fwiw, they call it Bacalao, but all of the supermarket brands are Canadian pollock, not cod.

Best lobster roll in NYC?

fwiw, I had a lobster roll from the Chelsea Mkt. Lobster Place earlier in the year and it was borderline inedible. Tough and old tasting meat...

Zaab-Elee, new Thai in the east village, now the best Thai in NYC, perhaps.

I asked for the Som Tum spicy and it was blistering... I'm Korean and I could barely finish it but I managed!

I laugh when people tell me Korean food is very spicy. Korean food is spicy. Thai food is VERY spicy.

Zaab-Elee, new Thai in the east village, now the best Thai in NYC, perhaps.

Ate here for the first time this evening. I was dining solo so I only had a duck larb with some very good sticky rice. It was very fresh and complex tasting with a very light hand on the sugar, unlike all the other thai restaurants in NYC. This looks like the perfect spring/summer food. Definitely returning soon to try the rest of the menu!

Sadly, both tables to either side of me asked if they served Pad Thai...

Chablis? Is that a wine?

That's funny you mention this - yesterday I bought a Chablis in a liquor store and the young cashiers were having problems scanning the bottle. "Just type in Chablis" said one cashier to the other. He responded, "That's the flavor, not the manufacturer..."

Best olive oil to buy in Manhattan?

mimolette -

You didn't like the Gata Hurdes (if it's still available)? I love that stuff...

vegetarian ramen?

I've never tried it. This branch specializes in Ramen however, unlike the other locations.

vegetarian ramen?

Souen Ramen on 6th st. between 1st and 2nd.

I just got fleeced - 20 bucks for 2 of the most over-hyped sandwiches at...

That's pretty much what porchetta is in Italy. IMHO, I felt it compared favorably to versions I had in Italy (except the one instance when I found it dry...). I actually seem to think they have improved since my first visit and I really enjoy it now.

I'm sure many will find it overpriced and not to their taste but to call it a 'must to avoid' is a bit unfair...

I just got fleeced - 20 bucks for 2 of the most over-hyped sandwiches at...

I love it. Not into the cracklings but I find it to be a really well made porchetta.

I've been there about 5 times and once I found it to be a bit dry. The other 4 times I enjoyed it immensely. Worth the $ imo...

Chinatown Cart - Lingo help needed

I've had luck speaking english at this cart. (I've requested the plain rice roll with fish balls on several occasions and they understood).

favorite purveyor of fresh eggs

Norwich Farms doesn't have a stand at the St. Marks market as far as I know. Maybe I have the name wrong (Norwich Meadows perhaps?) I buy them at the Tompkins Sq. market...

favorite purveyor of fresh eggs

I like Norwich Farms eggs much better than Tello and Knoll Crest.

anyone eaten at bibim-bar yet?

One of the best bibimbaps that I've had in Manhattan. Freshly prepared and clean tasting.

Best (or any) Hwe de Bop in Manhattan?

Haven't had it in Manhattan, but Hwe DUP bop is the most common spelling for your search purposes.

Where can I find chilled Korean noodle dishes?

ALL naeng myun noodle will clump if not quickly and thoroughly coated with sauce or put into broth. If it's overcooked and mushy, that's another question...

I Think I Found Hong Kong Cake Lady's Replacement!

I think it's the same guy (always plays classical music?) but he sometimes is on the southeast corner of Grand and Bowery.

Japanese Grocery Question - Inari Sushi Ingredients

Correction - Sunrise Mart

Dumplings with THIN wrappers?

I think that most often, very thin skinned dumplings are called wontons on most menus.

Japanese Grocery Question - Inari Sushi Ingredients

Have you tried Sunshine Mart?

mosco dumpling waters down the hot sauce!

Considering how much these places charge for your dumpling fix, I would cut them a bit of slack. It's a miracle they make any money at all!

Luzzo's?

KT - your comments would carry a little more weight if you elaborated on your experiences. Exactly what didn't you like about Luzzo's pie?

Take-Out Chinese - EV

Grand Sichuan is the only good option in the EV. Try to order from the Sichuan/Hunan portions of the menu.

Small, unmarked Japanese -- EV

There is an unmarked Japanese on the south side of 7th near 1st Avenue. I forget the name but it's been mentioned here on CH before...

Lower Eastside Girls Club Farmers Market

Just bought some fabulous corn at the Lower Eastside Girls Club Farmers Market on Avenue C between 8th and 9th Street. They have a small but beautiful selection of produce from a local farm.

They will be set up every Wednesday until the fall. They told me business was a little slow so if you are in the East Village area, stop by and supported these young ladies!
