Cedar Park Post Season Soccer Party Place

I need a place to go next Sunday after our last soccer game of the season. About 30-35 people. Is Yaghi's pizza decent or is it just chainpizza? I really don't want Sysco's Special Pizza- anything like Little Deli or Salvation out there in the burbs?

Best Tres Leches cake in Austin

If you have basic baking skills, the King Arthur Flour Tres Leches recipe makes a fabulous cake. I sometimes do a Quatros Leches and use coconut milk as well. No frosting and top with a splash of Kahlua. Mmmm.

Missing Las Manitas

I am pining for the Tamal Vegetariano. Does anyone have the recipe, or barring that, a time machine?

In Honor of Pi(e) Day...

Veggo, if you can't get up in the middle of the night for pie, you don't really like pie.

In Honor of Pi(e) Day...

Just got back from the Monument Cafe in Georgetown (not in the midst of any kind of frenzy) and had great coconut cream, lemon meringue and chocolate pecan pie. I didn't have all three, my whole family was there and each had only one piece-- but a pie buffet, what an afternoon that would be. Delicious fillings, great crust, and a damn fine cup of coffee.

Passover Cedar in Austin

I think you mean "seder". Oy. You could call Hillel or the Jewish Community Center.

Good places to eat with family in North Austin or near 35th street

Kerbey Lane Cafe, on Kerbey off 35th is wonderful for families-- slow service (we try to think of it as "European") but good food (local and fresh) and you can have anything anyone wants-- 24 hr. breakfast, salads, pasta, entrees, burgers, Mexican and great desserts. Hyde Park Bar and Grill on Duval and 41st-ish has terrific fries, interesting entrees, salads and soups and burgers. Both have full bars for the grown ups. The best pizza is at Little Deli on Woodrow around the 7000 block. Great salads and sandwiches, mostly outdoor seating, but really, really good pizza. For something a little dressier/gourmet, Asti in Hyde Park is great. Tacodeli on 42nd and Lamar (closes at 3) has great tacos, Torchy's on Burnet around 53rd has great tacos. My family is evenly split on our preferences for each, so we try to alternate.

Hillside Farmacy to open in March

I ate there yesterday with a friend. What a charming place! Friend had the carrot puree soup and a grapefruit gratin, which she loved. I had the Forager sandwich. Great bread, and delicious brie, it created an big pool of oil on the plate. I was expecting more interesting mushrooms- these were just cremini-looking. Will go back, though, as the menu looks terrific. Wish they'd had the house-made syrups. Bakery case looks promising, carpool weeks to Kealing may be less of a drag.

If you can find Sheila Partin Hamburger Buns, you can find a great hamburger.

They do use Sheila Partin's. I asked when they first opened and they looked at me as if I'd divined the PIN number to their bank account. Partin's does call the bread "Sweet Sourdough", or a least that's what they called it when I used to get it in Houston.
