Moving to L.A. - NEED to find great Asian food.
Thanks! I've heard good things about Santouka and have been to the Mitsuwa Mkt in New York several times. If I can't get good pho, then at least I have ramen.
Moving to L.A. - NEED to find great Asian food.
I'm moving to Santa Monica by the end of the year, where can I find the good Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean food that won't charge "my daddy will beat me" prices? I am willing to drive within a 25 mile radius.
Any good (non-chain) restaurants in or near lower bucks county
Blue Sage sounds awesome. Can't wait to try it.

Oishi in Newtown is very good.
British/Irish food
Try the English Gardener GIft Shop in Haddonfield. I know they have foods in a freezer/fridge case in the back of the store. Or maybe the British Chip Shop across the street will sell you some.
Best Hoagie in Conshohocken?
Pete's deli is my go-to place. If I can't get their roast pork sandwich (sells out quick), then I get their hoagies.
El Limon is fantastic.
What makes the Philadelphia Italian Hoagie different from the rest?
Damn you! Now I want an Italian hoagie.
I like the bread from Sarcones. No Mayo. Olive oil. Basic cold cuts are capicola, genoa salami. Must have provolone. Salt, pepper, oregano. Sweet peppers for me. Shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions.
Dim sum, take 3: tell me about cheung fun?
We special order it at one of the restaurants my uncle likes to go to. It's not part of the normal selection in the carts. It's earthy and delicious.
Foodie's first time in Oahu
I'm going at the end of Feb and this has been really helpful. So excited!
Do you order a non dim sum dish during your dim sum meal to fill up stomach space? If so what is it?
My aunt in HK is a master at coming up with terms of "endearment". Mouth of a sailor, that one.
I don't go as much as we used to, but we go every now and then. Free parking is hard to come by and there is no way my mom is letting me pay for it. To be honest, the food is not as good as it was when I was a kid, but it's serviceable for when the family wants to get together.
Do you order a non dim sum dish during your dim sum meal to fill up stomach space? If so what is it?
Oh, we use negative phrases as terms of endearment all the time. A favorite one between me and my siblings is "dead stupid".
Dim sum, take 3: tell me about cheung fun?
That is the perfect description. Have you ever had ones filled with pei dan (1000 yr eggs) and cilantro? Might be an acquired taste, but it's so good.
Do you order a non dim sum dish during your dim sum meal to fill up stomach space? If so what is it?
In my family we only ever use it to reference someone who likes a lot of rice. But now that I know the other connotation, I might use it. LOL. That's kind of mean.
Name this Chinese bakery item?
I used AltaVista Babelfish and typed in spring roll to get the chinese character for roll. If you just type in roll, it gives you the verb. I took Mandarin in college and the proctor told me I have a Cantonese accent when I speak Mandarin. LOL
Your Most Favorite Dim Sum is?
I prefer crispy so that when the sweet soy soaks in, you have a combo of chewy and crispy going on. Now I need to go to Chinatown.
Do you order a non dim sum dish during your dim sum meal to fill up stomach space? If so what is it?
All of the dishes you listed have been ordered at one time or another. I love salted fish fried rice. Talk about umami.
Your Most Favorite Dim Sum is?
Jia Leung. Fried dough wrapped with rice noodle. Oh so good.
FRESH fish market in Philly?
I agree. Go to Chinatown or any Asian market where you will see the fish still swimming. They will clean it for you if you don't know how to. It won't be pretty and zen, but the product is fresh. Otherwise, Ippolito's is great. Or, you can go to the Food Depot in South Philly by the Stadium but go early.
Paul Restaurant, Pine Street
Paul's new chef is Greg Ling, who was the chef at the Oyster House when it re-opened. He was also at Raw and Rx. I've had brunch and dinner so far and it was absolutely delicious. Try the scrapple if you go for brunch. It's a special recipe from Green Meadow Farms that Glenn makes only for family and friends.
best byob in philly?
Try Paul restaurant on Pine & Quince. They've started a new menu and the prices are reasonable. I'm having brunch there this Sunday.
Seeking Fujianese cuisine:
I think China King in Philly is a Fuzhou restaurant. There are more places in NYC, but not really in Philly, even though there has been a surge of Fujianese immigrants to the area. Many work in the Chinatown restaurants. From personal experience, Fujianese food isn't so great to my Cantonese palat. But if you like offal and such, it's worth a try.
I think a place called Potluck Cafe also has some offerings from Fuzhou.
Montevideo, Uruguay
If you go to Punta Carretas shopping, there is a restaurant there that serves Panchitos. They're hot dogs but better. In Pocitos, there are a bunch of great restaurants: Parillada Trouville, La Pasiva (for chivitos), and Bar Tavare.
Na Brasa....how is it?
South Americans like their meat on the medium-well, well-done side. My family & I are regulars there, so they accomodate us with the rare/medium rare. However, I kinda like the picanha when it's a little more cooked bc the fat gets nice and crispy.
Na Brasa....how is it?
I'm with you Hungry. I like the neighborhood feel of Picanha and their Pave dessert is amazing. The meat is grilled over wood. It's cheaper and they have the same meats. It's also BYOB, and they have these great juices that they don't have at Fogo. You kinda feel like you're in Brasil with the tv on Brasilian channels.
