I'm pretty sure it's just a VT thing, you'll have to plan a fall foliage trip to VT I think!
Wedding in Southern New Hampshire or Maine?
I would give a call to parks and rec departments and see if they have any spaces available. Ive been to weddings in parks in other cities, maybe that can work.
Footlong hot dogs.
Ok sorry to take over this thread for my own benefit, but I want to know more about these hot dogs!!! Where are you getting them from, and how?
Sorry, I've never seen the long rolls around here.
Restaurants at the Merrimack Outlets?
I will be checking that out too, but I won't give up on my old stand by stores for Le Creuset...TJX stores...check diligently and you may some times find ridiculous deals when stuff goes on clearance ;).
where to buy local beef - nashua area
For Buffalo, there's also Yankee Farmer out of Warner, NH :). I'm starting to wonder even about that ground bison meat in the stores...how can we be sure of what's in that package?
where to buy local beef - nashua area
Well you can start by purchasing your ground beef from a butcher shop, making sure they are grinding it in the shop so you can ask what's in it. Costco has ground their beef in store in the past, so ask there too. Of course, you can also grind your own at home. I'm a big can of buying local meat, but it's not always the most convenient, so I wanted to share other options.
For locally raised, there are farms in Groton, MA (there's also the Blood Slaughterhouse there!); Milford has Trombly's; check the farm in Litchfield (I can't recall the name); both Lull Farm and Brookdale sell local meats. You'll find we are lucky here in NH, we've got lots of local meat options. When the farmers markets open you'll find even more new places out there!
Good luck!
cupcakes in southern NH?
So it looks like it is actually on the Elm St. side, not the corner. Someone was just telling me it is being opened by the Clark's Tavern owner, but I haven't found anything online. The sign in the window says it will be called Sweet Maids of Honor. It will be interesting to see how all this cupcake stuff plays out in NH.
Boylans soda in Nashua/Manchester
Bellevance is the distributor, so I'd call them to find retailers.
Favorite candy stores
Nelson's on Main St. In Wilton is a neat place...they make their own candy canes at Christmastime and chocolate bunnies for Easter. I haven't tried much of their stuff, but they have a really big selection of homemade candy (fudge too) and commercial candies like gummi bears.
cupcakes in southern NH?
Soon you can add Milford to the list of towns to find cupcakes. The building on the corner of South and Elm, when finally refurbished will be a cupcake shop!
James Beard Semifinalists
They own Republic, don't they? I Googled Ed's name and there was an article about Republic from NH Magazine link.
Republic Cafe in Manchester, NH
You missed the fries!!! That's reason enough to go back ;). I enjoyed the cauliflower and pickled veggies as well. Glad you enjoyed it!
Whole Foods Nashua??
The space seems large enough for both anyway. I wonder if part of the problem is with all the water waste from a WF? Not sure what kind of system is in place and they may not be able to make improvements bc of the land the building is on. Just trying to see how that part of the article fits the WF angle vs. a bank being ok there.
Looking for Merrimack-area dinner suggestions
Just agree to disagree :). Seriously you're both right...NH suffers from a very poor perception of Italian food, yet most of the people here love it. Of course, it's what they're used to! Personally, I avoid recommending Italian food to those visiting NH, especially if they come from a place with a decent selection of Italian restaurants (i.e., Providence). I have heard good things about Fratello's, but I know that it's just not for me.
Keene NH Lunch
We were kind of unimpressed with Fritz, but it is a very casual atmosphere. I have had good lunches with our kids at Keene Fresh Salad Co. It is a self-serve restaurant, but they have sandwiches, salads and soups. We wanted to try Luca's but the main restaurant was closed and the cafe didn't seem to have anything that looked very enticing...not sure what was going on there the day we went!
Favorite ice cream in vicinity of Nashua
They also have a spot in Brookline on Rt 13, in the parking lot of the large gas station (maybe a Mobil?).
Favorite ice cream in vicinity of Nashua
Jake's in Amherst...always really interesting flavors on the menu. Plus, the ice cream is just really good!
dinner rec's needed for Nashua near Exit 8
Looks like you can make it to Buckley's in Merrimack! Downtown Nashua also has MT's Local. You are just about at the mileage limit to make it to Burton's Grill at the mall (a chain, but regional). I haven't been to Burton's but I just wanted to mention it.
Luna Caprese in Merrimack, nh
There was an article about them in The Hippo this winter. I'm pretty sure they are open just dinner, maybe lunch on weekends. I haven't had a chance to get over there yet myself...Yelp reviews didn't sound too promising to make a special trip, but I'd go for it if I were in the area.
LOTS of older frozen chickens?
Really depends on the type of chicken...if they were older layers then that meat is too tough to roast, you HAVE to simmer it for hours, then you can reuse it for stews or soups. Coq Au Vin is a classic for fowl.
Crush Pizzeria, Nashua?
Also, sign up for the NH Magazine e-newsletter. They also have a little section in the magazine every month, but it's the same as the e-mail. I've never had luck finding any other online resources for NH food.
cupcakes in southern NH?
I thought they were really good, I like that they're not huge and not too much frosting. Great flavors too! My only gripe is that the edges were a bit tough, maybe I got some day old ones in the bunch.
Looking for Merrimack-area dinner suggestions
Lol, while I do find bread at Chinese restaurants bizarre, I do know of it from friends who grew up in Mass. (especially south of Boston)
Looking for Merrimack-area dinner suggestions
Pizzico has a Merrimack location, not sure exactly where. Now I haven't been to the Nashua one in years, so I'm not necessarily endorsing it, just throwing out an idea! :)
Tek-Nique - Bedford
Whs, the Yelp reviews on Copper Door are really worth a read. None are very good and there's quite a theme throughout...people not happy with the attempt at a fancier environment, higher prices, but lower quality and quantity. I know it's typical to see that gripe about quantity, but even around here people are accepting of higher prices when the quality reflects the cost.
lunch in Nashua?
That's a great recommendation! I haven't been yet, but many of my friends have insisted I check it out.
Grade B syrup in Nashua?
Milford has a winter market at the town hall on Saturdays. Lull Farm closes for a bit in the winter (Milford closed til the spring) but maybe Brookdale is still open.
lunch in Nashua?
It would be great to know more about your route, there may be better options elsewhere depending on which way you're heading to Nashua from.
IMO , Cucina Toscana was terrible when I went in the fall, if you have good Italian where you are you should probably not bother in Nashua.
I'm thinking MT's is a good option, I have only been to Michael Timothy's, but my guess is that it is still very good.
I know Crush gets mixed reviews, but what do you guys think of that as an option? Again, only worth it if you don't usually have access to decent pizza.
