Where to buy sushi-grade fish?

Don't be afraid. Just make sure you get good fish, and keep it on ice in your fridge, and be sure to drink sake with your sushi. Go to Nijiya on Sawtelle or the aforementioned Mitsuwa market.

Where to find baby Russett potatoes (if such things exist)

There is a stand at SM Farmer's market who has every kind of potato imaginable. You might find what you are looking for there, or a good substitute.

Fresh fresh fish for a sushi fanatic

Sasabune in SM on WIlshire is very fresh, in fact they don't open on SAT & SUN because the fish market is not open then. The Omakase is worth the money!

Wine for Late Summer Wedding

Rose is a great food friendly wine that would pair well with your salmon and chicken dishes. Often it is made as a by product of wine making, so depending on the grapes it will have different characteristics. I'm a purist so I love rose made from a single varietal, my favorite being Syrah (or Shiraz). Otherwise, I enjoy the dry minerality of roses from Provence, which are typically a blend of different grapes.

I'd recommend a zesty Zinfandel for your BBQ dish, which will complement the smoky flavors in your ribs.

I am a sparkling wine addict. There are a bunch of different affordable alternatives to Champagne available to bubbly lovers. I like a dry Prosecco, sparkling wine from Italy; or you could go with a Cava, from Spain. You could also go with a domestic sparkling wine such as Westport Rivers Winery (http://www.westportrivers.com/) in Massachusetts, which has excellent sparkling wines for much less than a bottle of mass marketed Veuve. If you do go that route you'll also have the added joy of supporting a great family business.

Hope that helps! Enjoy your wedding!

Seeking interesting cacacha drinks in LA

Anyone know of good cacacha based drinks, and or/ caipirinhas in LA area restaurants and bars?

Thanks!

East coast food lover needs lay of the LAnd

Food writer/ chef at large just moved here from Boston, so I anticipate being on the LA chow page alot. I was wondering what the best moderate to high end restaurants are in Santa Monica, where the staff seems very happy. Any other high end restaurant recommendations outside of SM are also appreciated. Also, where is a good place to source good, cheap produce, and Thai basil, and live sea urchin (esp. Santa Barbara). Thanks for your help.
