5 NYC females having a girls weekend in Philly - where to go?

for Saturday breakfast/brunch, I recommend High Street on Market. They don't take reservations though.

Looking for great counter service eats in Philly

there a couple of trucks at the Sunday Headhouse Square Farmers market in addition to the taco stand. You could also get breads, ice cream, fruit, lemonade and spreads (from Talulah's table) to supplement. and there's a little sprayer/fountain area that the kids might like. Or grab a pizza from Pizzeria Stella.

Low-maintenance meat entrees

what if you just picked up a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store? He can carve it or shred it himself. Provide tortillas, beans etc and you could have taco night that satisfies him and you. or you can make falafels and provide pitas, and other filings and he could have gyro/shawarma sandwich. With leftover chicken, you could make chicken salad or add bbq sauce.

Culantro??

Do you have an Asian/Vietnamese grocer near you? It's sometimes served as on the plate with the bean sprouts, basil and lime wedges that comes with an order of Pho.

Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder

Slow cook it first at the low temperature and to get the crispy outer layer, crank it up to 500 in the last 30 minutes or so.

Need best chocolate buttercream recipe

I really like the swiss meringue butter cream recipe from Cook's Illustrated. You beat egg whites and sugar over heat until peaks form and then beat in the butter.

I need help ! extremely picky eater & basically wont eat anything !

Does your sister have more adventurous eating friends? It may help to have her around kids that will eat and try things. see if you can get an invite and ask the parents not to make anything special for her.

I also find that forcing the issue results in power struggle that you will lose. I agree with a previous poster about setting the standard that they need to try new things but not have to finish it. Our daycare use to call it the "No thank you" bite. You have to try it but then you can decide not to eat it. But you can't just outright say you don't like it. Also, don't give up if she says she doesn't like it the first time. I think it takes kids sometimes up to 20-40 tries before liking something.

To get her to eat vegetables, if you have a space for a garden, trying growing food with her. Carrots, snap peas are naturally sweet and great raw. I've seen kids who won't eat cooked peas, but the idea of growing it, picking it straight from the vine and pop them in their mouth and go for another.

Favorite Mollie Katzen recipes?

An ex's mother would make the tofu burritos from the Enchanted Broccoli Forest and I use to love them. I"m not sure if it's in the revised copy.

Alla Spina or Pizzeria Vetri (with kids)

PIzzeria Vetri is tiny and it's always seems packed. I've gone at 4:30 on a Saturday and have had to wait 30 minutes.

I wouldn't exactly say it's more kid friendly than Alla Spina. Many of the pizzas have topping combinations that may not appeal to a toddler. they do have a couple of plain cheese pizzas.

Meat-centic 21st Birthday Dinner

If he likes lamb, what about about the Mesibah meal at Zahav? Still plenty to satisfy the vegetarian.

Happy hours deals that are NOT restricted to the bar area

Are there places that extend happy hour deals to the dining area (don't require you to sit at the bar)? I can only think of Zavino only because I was there recently - the Drexel location. Would love to find a place with oyster deals during happy hour that doesn't require me to be at the bar.

Graduation Lunch Center City Area

Perhaps Le Cheri? They just started lunch service and if the weather is nice, they have that lovely garden.

Tickets Needed For Volver

I don't know why you keep thinking it's going to be a worse chef. It hasn't be announced who the chef de cuisine will be. Perhaps this person may be fantastic but you've already decided it's going to be bad. Thomas Keller isn't always in the kitchen at Per Se and it is difficult to get a booking. Momofuku Ko brought people based on David Chang's reputation but it was Peter Serpico's cooking that kept people coming. And I would say Serpico is a better chef than Chang. I trust that since this is suppose to be his showcase restaurant, that Garces has put a lot of thought into picking a very capable person.

Copycat Panera Breakfast Soufflé

I get mine at Whole Foods in Pennsylvania. I've tried the all butter version from Fresh Direct and it's not the same.

Copycat Panera Breakfast Soufflé

I recommend trying the Dufour brand puff pastry. It's very different from the puff pastry that's available in supermarkets. I've bought other all butter puff pastry dough and they bake up differently than the dufour's brand. It seems like other brands bake up drier and flakier. But the Dufour's is really buttery and softer when baked, more like the Panera's soufflé.

Fancy brunch and maple garden

We're returning to Oahu in a few weeks and I have two questions.
1) what's the best fancy brunch? Halekulani, Hoku's at the Kahala or somewhere else?
2) Maple Garden - does it still exist and is any good? My husband grew up on Oahu and he has such fond memories of the place. I'm sure he'll want to return but I don't want to waste a meal if it's not good.

Thanks!

family-friendly restaurants near Rector/Manayunk, Smith Playhouse or Please Touch

In Riva is pizza, child friendly and not very far from Smith Playhouse.

The Centennial Cafe is right by PTM, you could walk there from the PTM but it's only open Wed-Sunday and for breakfast/lunch. Not the best food, but it's kid friendly.

You could go to Sabrina's, either the Callowhill location or the one by Drexel. Both are about equal distance from the PTM and Smith's and are kid friendly. Portions are huge.

If you're willing to trek to the Sabrina's by Drexel, then you might as well consider the new Shake Shack at 32nd & Chestnut.

Both Smith and PTM allow you to bring food, so you may want to consider packing a lunch. I know the PTM is hard to tear a young child away sometimes.

Level 33

I just found out through Open Table that the Loews Hotel has a restaurant on the 33rd floor called... Level 33. Any reports? I imagine the view is beautiful but how is the food?

Vernick -- always sold out?

There are also a few tables at the bar area that are first come, first serve, right by the window. It's great for a party of two but I've seen parties of 4-6 people have those tables.

It's one of my favorite places in the city right now.
