napa wineries to visit.. posts are dated... help!!

That's what I've heard--but it's worth a visit from an architectural standpoint. A rep for Antinori told me it's as impressive as the family's castle in Italy.

Jacqueline's Tea - Petaluma?

It's a charming place, in a Victorian sort of way, and the folks who run it are very nice. But the tea was disappointing both times I went there. It was rather weak, and they only had skim milk to go with it (I asked for cream or half-and-half, but my server said they didn't have any. There's a market literally across the street - could they not run over and get some? I nearly did it myself). I felt like whoever made my tea does not actually drink it, if you know what I mean. If you want really good tea in downtown P-town, check out Oteao. The atmosphere is completely different (very modern and stark), but the tea selection is really good.

Breakfast in the Richmond District

Get on over to "Q" (Clement near 3rd) for a big, beautiful breakfast. No disclaimer necessary!

Some other wineries to consider:
Darioush: A "Persian palace" of a winery, unlike anything else in the valley. Controversial, but surprisingly tasteful. Good wines too.
Casa Nuestra: If you want a taste of the "old Napa" (as in, not glamorous or slick), check out this hippie-style winery. Excellent Chenin Blanc--if there's any left. You can feed the goats too. (appointment required)
Castello di Amorosa: Way over-the-top (but apparently, amazingly authentic) replica of an Italian castle. Eight levels of art- and antique-filled rooms to explore.

Taylor's is great for a low-key lunch--you can bring your own wine for $5/bottle.

Have fun!

Napa and Sonoma

Here are some inexpensive places with tasty chow that I like in the town of Sonoma:

- The Swiss Hotel: A funky historic place on the Sonoma Plaza with great wood-oven pizzas. You can eat at a table out front when it's warm, or inside the bar too.

- Taste of the Himalayas: Yummy Tibetan/Indian food in an alley off the main square in Sonoma. I don't know if I'd call it "stylish," but it's good.

- Della Santina's: Delicious homemade Italian food, and surprisingly inexpensive. Nice bistro-type atmosphere.

- Maya: Stylish Mexican food (not your typical taco joint), with more tequilas that you can handle.
