Where To Lunch By The Train Station?
All of these comments are awesome! Thanks so much everyone. I will post my final itinerary soon - sounds like Thai Curry Simple is the last piece of the puzzle!!
Thanks,
S.
Portland for one night
I second Beaker and Flask. Food, atmosphere plus mixology. Great local beers on tap. Regardless if you have dinner or stop in for late night snacks, the menu is always amazing, the service is impeccable, the vibe is interesting and dynamic and the cocktails are classic, original, true to mixology. The trifecta of Portland!

Where To Lunch By The Train Station?
As always, my fellow chowhounders have helped me pull together quite an amazing itinerary as I eat my way from PDX to Miami Beach and back. However, I have a dilemma :
I am hopping from plane to train on a Saturday. Normally I would skip into Salumi and be noshing on a mozz sandwich on the way back to Portland as the PacNW landscape slides by the train windows, however my nearby eatery is closed on Saturdays. What to do? What to do??
Any suggestions on lunching places near the train station (or on the way from the airport - I'll be cabbing it)?
Don't fail me now, fellow hounds!!

Providence RI Specialities?
Don't worry about mentioning the Laiterie burger... that's already on my list. PDX chowhounder has one day in Providence and looking for recs on what's not to be missed on a local cuisine / specialty level. Davenports chowder? I came across that rec and definitely interested.
Let me know what's goin' on over there!!
Best Brekkie in Boston
Let's do a poll, people... I'd like to know where your favorite breakfast place is and why. Is it because of the coffee? The line out the door for biscuits and gravy? Eggs benedict with the perfect hollandaise sauce? Or is it just a greasy spoon with bad service and even worse, gut bomb, hang over food? Chime in! Where do you go for your brekkie??
Does Boston Have a Foodie Blogger Guide?
PDX chowhound visiting Boston April 23rd to 27th for first time and looking to take in the best of what the area has to offer morning, noon and night. I've been spoiled by a local Portland blogger who has a comprehensive website that includes reviews, guides by neighborhood, and consistent third-party advice. Does Boston have someone similar I can rely on for good recommendations? I've been plowing through the most recent Boston chowhound posts and the strings aren't giving me enough info for what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance...
(PDX) In search of Fresh Ricotta in Portland
I've tried PastaWork's fresh ricotta and enjoyed it - I would recommend it as it's one of the few places I've found that carries fresh ricotta, mozzerella and fresh pasta sheets for my lasagna.

Sea C.H. Stuck in Maui looking for a good chow.
If you want to go to a local eatery, try Sammy Soto's. They serve breakfast and lunch, have saimin, noodle bowls and the most fantastic lima bean cookies in the world. Trust me, my friend who lives up by the needle MADE me try one of those cookies. I ended up buying a dozen and eating them all like a fat kid loves cake in the back seat of her car before we got home. Evil cookies... I crave them. 1750 Wili Pa Loop 808.244.7124
Best Fresh Dungeness Crab in PDX?
Newman's in City Market. They have a constant, consistent selection of live lobster and dungeness crab year around and are also one of major, local suppliers to the higher end, sustainable ag / organic restaurants in PDX. They're located inside of City Market NW :

Portland, OR ladies luncheon
Carafe - http://www.carafebistro.com/ (can be a bit noisy... it's a popular lunch spot). Park Kitchen - http://www.parkkitchen.com/ (nice champagne choices and they have a private room if your group is larger). Fenouil - http://www.fenouilinthepearl.com/ (good location if you'd like to do a bit of bridal shopping afterwards in the Pearl district).
oyster farms in Washington
I agree with the Wescott Bay Oyster Farm suggestion. It's a lovely little bay and you can either use the bags provided and help yourself to the plastic bins of oysters or you can pull on their rubber boots provided by the farm and wade into the bay yourself. Doesn't get much fresher than that! I do love Willapa Bay, but I found the trek out to Wescott, along with the quality of their oysters, to be so much more of an experience. It's an amazing oyster farm and loads of fun. Fabulous shellfish... I took pictures while I was there a couple months ago.
Takeout dinner in NE Portland/burbs
I'll have to put in another vote for Full Plate. They're right across from the Beaumont market and the staff at Fife Restaurant, using their same organic ingredients, prepare fresh, ready to take home and reheat dinners. The menu really focuses on the comfort food that you look for on an average week night but don't have the means or time to create at home. You can jump in there, pick out family favorites for each person, side dishes, grab a bottle of wine or soda, dessert and head out the door in 10 minutes. it's loads of fun... try it out! My family has used FP quite a few times now and we've really enjoyed our meals.
Their website isn't up and running yet, but from what I understand, you'll be able to place orders online during the day, specify when you'll stop by to pick it up, and your dinner will be ready and waiting for you. I can't wait!
Need help with Portland, OR -- NW sector dining choices
I disagree with you. As an example, Paley's dungeness crab beignets are $15, Filbert's crab cakes are $12. Paley's mussels right now are 18. Filbert's is priced at $11. Granted it's two different cuts, but Paley's steak is $35 and Filbert's is $28. Need I go on? I think Filbert's is extremely well priced and like I said before, their portions are very generous to boot. His food is beautiful and definitely well worth the visit.
Need help with Portland, OR -- NW sector dining choices
I'm gonna put in my two cents about a favorite restaurant that I love to eat at - Filbert's Cafe. This time of the year, the space is so warm and comfortable and the wine list was recently featured as one of the best in the area in NW Wine Press. Chef Sutherland's food is always consistent, well portioned, beautifully presented and each bite expresses the well thought out recipes and attention to detail. His menu is full of seasonal dishes that really represent what the Pacific Northwest American cuisine is all about... without the pretentiousness and huge dinner bill. His ingredients are local, organic and it's a fabulous spot for a group of your size. I love Filbert's! www.filbertscafe.com
PIAN PIANINO
I just had dinner there on Monday night. 11 amazing courses, family style with 24 other people in attendance. I've eaten at restaurants around the world and I must say that Justin's creations that night will make an indelible mark for years to come, if not the rest of my life. From beginning to end, I couldn't envision a better night. The table would get into a conversation about the ingredients, mesmerized by each dish and our patient server would head back to the kitchen over and over, bringing back surprising answers like juniper when we were all convinced it was fennel. The pasta, of course, was the highlight. If angels could wear cashmere, it was like eating heaven wrapped up in luxury. My fiancee and I haven't stopped talking about it and are determined to make it back before Justin officially opens. I loved every minute of it... can you tell? Worth every penny, every effort to make it to Pian Pianino. Justin - thank you!
Dinner on a Monday Night?
Sitka and Spruce, Lark, Crush... they're all closed on Monday. I'll be in Seattle for one night and am looking for recommendations for amazing Pac NW cuisine that's open on Mondays. Suggestions?
Portland Turkeys
Local Harvest has a search tool on their home page that allows you to look up items by name ('turkey') and by city, state, zip. I did a search and it came up with three local farmers that supply heritage, free-range, organic and/or sustainable farmed turkeys. http://www.localharvest.org/
Portland: Higgins, Hurley's, Carlye...??
Absolutely!! Filbert's Cafe is in the same neck of the woods, but I promise you that you'll walk away wondering why you've never eaten there... and then vowing to return again as soon as possible. A recent transplant from Paley's, Kurt is their newer front of the house manager and he's revamped the wine list to add a beautiful selection of French wines and the list continues to grow over 120 different choices. They were also recently voted in NW Wine Press as having one of the best wine lists in the Pac NW. Chef Sutherland's attention to detail is incredible and his well thought-out dishes are so evident in every bite. The intimate and cozy setting is perfect for relaxing and truly enjoying your night. I love every thing about Filbert's... Check out the menu and directions at www.filbertscafe.com. They're super easy to get to and right off the freeway. So convenient! Have a great time...
Irish Bars in Portland?
I prefer the Green Room for live music and fun atmosphere... NW portland.
Portland
Are you interested in any particular part of Portland? SE, NE, etc? We love Fife and Filbert's... both support local, organic, sustainable ag, have fabulous menus and staff and super consistent - you can expect an excellent meal each and every time. Their menus change often. Filbert's was just recently voted as having one of the best wine lists in NW Wine Press and Fife was recently written up in October's Gourmet magazine as well as their online website. Two not to miss restaurants - you'll be hooked!
Downtown Portland with 20 people, Help!
Widmer Brewery? They probably won't be able to seat all of you together at one large table, but they're pretty fast, a PDX landmark, have decent food and close to the Rose Garden.
Best sandwich in Portland, OR?
I'll second the Lagniappe suggestion and throw in a Podnah's on 15th and Fremont to up the ante... mmmm, brisket.
simple italian food in portland
No - It's all about Ciao Vito. You can find them over on Alberta Street and, thankfully, one of the few GREAT restaurants in PDX that is open on Mondays. Great, comfortable, unpretentious space and equally comforting food. It's simple to the point where I can go and expect portions that wouldn't feed ten, sauces that you KNOW took hours to make, real pasta and organic vegetables. It speaks of freshness and everything that you'd expect of a true Italian restaurant while visiting overseas... not the Americanized, gluttonous, bastardized version of what someone just poured out of a jar. Go - and then go again many, many more times. http://www.ciaovito.net
Lunch Delivery in Downtown PDX?
I have a ton of conference calls and work to catch up on this week and it looks like I'll be taking a break from the food carts in downtown PDX for a few days (good bye, lovely Kosher dog lady, we will meet again!). In the meantime, my stomach is still grumbling and I must feed the monster. Anyone have recommendations for lunch places that deliver to downtown PDX offices?
Need Downtown Portland Suggestions
I would suggest Filberts also. Chef Sutherland has an amazing menu that focuses on local, organic ingredients fresh from the farm and everything from the dining room experience to the food is absolutely amazing. Every time I leave there, I go with a smile on my face and a perfectly content belly. I've heard that his special of the month, a lamb chop dish, is to die for. His crab cakes are phenomenal and they also have salmon and halibut on the menu right now too. www.filbertscafe.com
Portland, OR
Even with Shaw's new seafood restaurant not being open, a visit to Fife Restaurant is an amazing chowhound experience and he always has a number of seafood appetizers as well as at least one seafood entree on his menu at all times. Be sure to sit at the chef's counter as you are a mere 2 feet away from the action and can interact with all of the chefs, see the meals as they leave the kitchen, and enjoy the fun banter and conversation from their talented staff. I eat at Fife at least 4 times a month - I love it!
