TBD - I guess I'll figure this out on my death bed as I contemplate my chowhound life as it passes before my eyes.
My current drink of choice:
2005 Adelsheim Elizabeth's Reserve Pinot Noir - yummy deliciousness in a Reidel Oregon pinot noir glass. Update 09.11.10 - Antica Terra. Any original recipe made by a mixologist. I'm really enjoying the history and resurgence of old school spirits.
I really wish I could:
Win the lottery and fly around the world visiting amazing restaurants and meet their chefs, tour the kitchens, and start a collection of menus. I'd organize them alphabetically and send 'wish you were here' foodie postcards back home.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Cast-iron skillet quartered organic chicken with a white wine reduction sauce, fingerling potatoes, heirloom carrots, and carmelized onions. It's an easy, one skillet meal that everyone enjoys and takes no effort to throw together.
My favorite comfort food:
My grandmother's chicken and dumplings. I have dreams about her fluffy dumplings, perfectly seasoned chicken floating in a white wine sauce with peas, carrots and pearl onions. My mouth is watering just thinking about it... (calling my grandmother right now). Soft shell crab sandwiches. Triple creams. My homemade chicken noodle soup. Really. Great. Bread.
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
In Portland, OR : As of 09.11.10 - Pok Pok, Laurelhurst Market, Beaker and Flask, Bunk Sandwiches, Olympic Provisions
My most tattered cookbooks:
All of Beard's books, Muffins A to Z by Marie Simmons, The Cast Iron Skillet Cookbook by Sharon Kramis & Julie Kramis Hearne, Northwest Food & Wine by Dan & Kathleen Taggart, Betty Crocker's Cookbook Sixth Edition (I've owned this since the day I moved out of mom's... it's now in 3 pieces, but I still use it!)
