Killer Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Recipe
I just saw this. Thanks so much for the follow up. I would love to experiment some time with organic sprouted whole wheat and I love the idea of using honey and coconut oil. I'm glad you liked it. :)
Favorite dinner ideas with Costco's Tru Roots Sprouted Bean Trio?
I ended up throwing together a basic soup with bacon, sausage, veggies, broth tomatoes and herbs. It was good but it took longer than I expected to get the beans soft. I think I will try salad next time with it. I really loved the salad my sister made with the mix once.
Favorite dinner ideas with Costco's Tru Roots Sprouted Bean Trio?
I'm not sure the exact location at my Costco since DH purchased them for me but I'm thinking they are probably located near the dried rice and beans section. Yes, I'm pretty excited that Costco is carrying these as well. My sister has been using the for quite sometime but has only experimented with side dishes thus far and I'm thinking more along the lines of of one pot meal tonight. I never purchased them before ( I think they've been stocking them at my local Costco for 1-2 years now) because I always soak everything in a whey solution for 12-24 hours and have been meaning to start sprouting but never got around to it so in my mind it was a waist of money but now that I have it I am justifying that it is money better spent for a quick family meal instead of fast food or some other unhealthy concoction.
Favorite dinner ideas with Costco's Tru Roots Sprouted Bean Trio?
My hubby purchased a bag of this sprouted bean trio a while back and tonight is the perfect night for me to try something with it because I have a sick baby and very little time in the kitchen since she is soo clingy. I was thinking along the lines of a stew or chili and have no problem just making something up however if anyone has a recipe idea they would like to share I truly appreciate your ideas.
What is one tip that you learned about cooking that was simple but made a huge difference? [old]
Fresh Food From Small Spaces is a great book.

Favorite recipe manager iPad app?? [moved from General Topics]
I looked at the MacGourmet app reviews and it seems like they have several unhappy users right now so I'm leaning toward Paprika. Sueatmo, could you tell me how it has been useful to you? I am only worried about paying extra to sync it with my iPod and my hubby's iPhone.
Favorite recipe manager iPad app?? [moved from General Topics]
My DH gave me an iPad for Christmas to help me organize my life. Right now I am trying to decide which Recipe/menu/grocery app will help me the most. I want to keep all of my recipes on it to help with a special diet we will be going on. Right now I am thinking about choosing Big Oven pro or the Paprika recipe manager. Does anyone here have experience with these apps and can you help me decide between the two? I don't want to spend any money until I've settled on the best possible app. Thank you chowhounders!
GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome diet) recipes?
I wish we had some wild meat to help out. Hopefully my hubby will go hunting next year.
GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome diet) recipes?
I have Nourishing Traditions. Do you have any favorite recipes from this book for the GAPS diet?
Substituting ghee for butter in BAKING
I recently purchased ghee for the gaps diet my family is going on in the new year and read many Amazon reviews prior to my purchase that said it made a superior pie crust.
Need fresh ideas for dinner tonight. Something with wild Alaska salmon, Black eyed peas, and Italian sausage ...
Decided to split into 2 meals ... it's too crazy with 3 little ones and 1 grade schooler coming home any minute to cook too much anyways. :) I'm going with the sausage and bean stew idea for warmth and salmon tomorrow. I will still have some beans though so I will either go to the back hills or I'll scrap the idea of combining the two and make my salmon a star since it is wild after all (beans could be some sort of appetizer). I sometimes forget how special wild salmon is since I live in AK and all I ever eat is the wild version. Or maybe I will do both since I have 2 large filets. ;) Thank you for boosting my brain power.
Need fresh ideas for dinner tonight. Something with wild Alaska salmon, Black eyed peas, and Italian sausage ...
I need to make something unusual for dinner tonight. Some things I have available are Wild AK salmon, I'm currently soaking black eyed peas so would like to use them, and I have Italian sausage and salt pork in my fridge as well. I also have a variety of basic veggies and don't mind running to purchase some more. Please help get me out of my rut. I have Mommy brain but want gourmet food! :) Thank you!

GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome diet) recipes?
My family (My hubby and myself + kiddos ages 9, 5, 2, and the baby probably will skip it) will be going on the GAPS diet in early 2012 mainly to heal my eldest daughter of her multiple allergies and severe eczema. For those of you wondering what I'm talking about I'll post a couple articles. Anyways I want to be very prepared so I am hoping that some of you have been on this diet and maybe could help me with your most delicious successful GAPS recipes. I have found multiple blogs on the subject and also ordered the cookbook Internal Bliss to help but am anxious to hear from my fellow chowhound foodies for ideas.
I first discovered the benefits of this diet to treat eczema from these articles (it is the belief that all diseases begin from an unhealthy gut which can be caused by antibiotics etc):

That was my favorite! I would have done this more however my Mother would only allow me a small amount.
Recipes You've Never Heard of Outside Your Family
We grew up eating leftover rice with milk, butter, sugar and butter. Absolutely comforting.

Uses for Shichimi Togarashi?
ohhh, thanks for the link ghg. having an obsession with discovering new flavors while living in Alaska can pose a challenge so I love ordering foods online.
What's your "secret ingredient?"
Tuna Sandwiches and egg salad? I think I'm already in love and I haven't even tried it yet. :)

I mean and fresh wisdom on new posts. Thanks Hill food. :)
What to do with the liquid strained off yogurt?
Use it to lacto ferment your homemade goodies like hot sauce, salsa, hummus, etc ... giving them a longer shelf life and you more healthy cultures for your stomach.
pre-soaking pasta
Love this idea as well! I do this for hard boiled eggs by bringing to a rolling boil and then covering for 10 minutes. I get perfect yolks every time.

Oh dear, I had no idea of his passing. Guess I haven't been on here as much with my house full of kids these days. His posts and food wisdom will be greatly missed!
Seriously Now -- Which countertop appliances do you leave out on your counter?
Coffee grinder, french press, knife block, Kitchen Aid Standing mixer, Food processor. I use the French Press and Food Processor the most. I don't know how I would survive in my kitchen without the Food processor.
