Little gem lettuce in the East Bay?
Has anyone happened upon little gems at any farmers markets or groceries in the East Bay lately? I've had a recipe from Olive mag for a little gem risotto sitting around for a while now, and hoping that as more restaurants are serving little gems they will start showing up in markets.
Storing cast iron in oven
I did that on purpose the other day by leaving my cast iron skillets in the oven for a self-cleaning cycle, but the self-cleaning temp is a lot hotter (900 degrees F?) and often lasts longer than typical roasting or baking. I think anything under 500 F is probably ok, as long as you don't do it several times a week. Maybe rub some shortening or oil over the pans before you start the oven so they stay seasoned.
Bay Area Shamrock Shake sightings?
Also at the San Ramon McD's at Crow Canyon and San Ramon Valley Blvd by Safeway. I asked the girl at the drive-thru window how long they'd be around and after consulting with another worker behind her, she replied, "They're minty, I think." Alrighty, then.
Food carts for an indoor event?
Thanks! These are all great suggestions. I'm off to research!
Food carts for an indoor event?
We're throwing a cocktail type evening event at a club venue and don't want to do the usual chi-chi catering with sliders, crab cakes, etc., so we're thinking some good street food would be more fun and go over well with the crowd. Does anyone have suggestions for some good food carts that can do an indoor event in SOMA?
Bay Area Shamrock Shake sightings?
Theoretically, except they use those auto-fill machines where they push the button for sm, med, or lg drink and walk away. Trying to do half and half might disrupt the whole System.
Singapore Kitchen & Noodles @ Stoneridge Mall, Pleasanton - any reports?
I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but my boss loves it. When my family moved back to the States from southeast asia many years ago, it never crossed my mind that someday I'd be able to get nasi goreng and rendang at the mall!
Lunch counter with school desks near St. Patricks?
Several years ago I had a fantastic grilled cheese sandwich at an old-fashioned lunch counter near St. Patrick's Cathedral. It was a tiny place with old school desks for the table seating. Anyone know what it's called and whether it's still there? Thanks!
