Where to buy inexpensive whole vanilla beans?
LJS, Bulk Barn has vanilla beans in the glass vials for $4.95 for about 5 I would guess. Imported from Germany.
I totally agree though, the price differences between the US and Canada are astounding!
Flower lollipops (cut-rock candy) from ages ago
I just noticed on the Williams Sonoma website that 24 of these lollipops are on sale for $4.99.
I have also seen the same design in candy at Wegmans. I bought them, and they really are very pretty.
Suggestions for Korean BBQ Please
Thanks ghetto..you seem to be an expert in this field. I'll post my review when we're done.
Suggestions for Korean BBQ Please
Hi,
I did a search for threads on this topic but didn't find anything interesting recently. What is your favourite place for Korean BBQ?
There is a concentration of Korean restaurants near Yonge and Sheppard, but I am open to downtown, or anywhere really in the GTA.
Thanks!
NoName Chicken Broth (moved from Ontario board)
Actually I have seen these cans at the grocery store, and picked them up, but when i read the label i realized there's nothing chicken about them. I left them by the check out.
In the freezer isle, quick meals...
you can ask your parents to get you a gift card which also works as a membership card, so you can try it out and then if you like it you can decide to buy a membership.
What else besides meat is heavenly in the cast-iron skillet?
The best thing i've ever made in my skillet is a roasted chicken with the skin on. I stuff my chicken, and put some quartered potatoes in the skillet. whatever stuffing is leftover goes around the perimeter of the chicken. The fat of the skin "melts" and fries the stuffing and roast potatoes. It's heavenly!
Mirinda in TO?
I have seen Mirinda at the No Frill's at Kipling and Albion. They also have Fanta (in bottles!).
Compliments of the House
Well, in an item like chicken, eating it undercooked could make you sick, but overcooked chicken just results in dryness.
I need Styrofoam containers!
I have seen sleeves of foam containers for $4.99 at Rexdale Grocers (Between Islington and Kipling on Rexdale).
They have various sizes-about 3-4 sizes.
Hope that helps
Best Samosa and/or Indian Food in Scarborough? (Samosa King + pics)
Mistaan has this dish called Chana samosa. It's a take out container filled with chick pea curry, and two samosas, drizzled with yogurt and coriander. I think its around $3.00. When I worked in this area, I used to have it at least twice a week. Very good. Don't forget to ask for the yogurt, otherwise, I find it's too spicy. Let us know if you like if if you decide to try!
BEST Cheap Samosas
We have tons of choices in Etobicoke. At Rexdale and Kipling, there is Rexdale sweets. They have good samosas, 3 for $1.00. Ask them to mix the two types of chutney (red and green).
On airport Road, there is a strip mall with Sweet India. They have good samosas too, as do Asian Sweets in the same plaza.
At Albion and Islington, there's a grocery store/butcher with a hot foods counter. They have good veggie samosas for 3 for $1.00 and meat samosas for 2 for $1.00.
My favourite is the one located at rexdale and kipling.
Peaches
There is a farmer's market every Wednesday at Duplex and Lytton. (1 street west of yonge). I have been buying peaches from them for the past three weeks. They're super. $6 for a 3 litre basket. they also have tiny blueberries for $7.50 for a pint and 15 for a quart, but I haven't tried them.
If you are not too far away, they really are delicious, as are the plums (same price).
Fondant source?
hi,
I'm not sure if it's available at every location, but I did see some fondant at Michael's in Markham.
HTH.
What do Romanian People Eat?
I persisted in calling her, and she had gone to take care of her grandson over the summer holidays. I got her recipes, but instead of the garden salad she suggested, I think the cucumber dill salad sounds delicious.
Thanks so much!
Could use some advice, please. Everything in full-size garage freezer thawed.
my mom always made us pizzas on pita bread that weren't cooked. she would make a huge batch, put them in those clear plastic veggie bags and we could make them after school whenever we wanted. We were never sick. It should be completely fine.
What do Romanian People Eat?
Thanks for the reply, this particular group of people does not get out much, and are not motivated by much other than food. In addition, they pay for the meal, so we definitely have to make it worth their while.
I would love to have your recipes, particularly the cucumber/dill salad, or eggplant salad (as well as everything else, but I can't ask you to do them all!).
Thanks again!
What do Romanian People Eat?
Hi all,
I run a Cooking program for Seniors where they introduce healthy foods from their culture to other participants. The first person to volunteer is from Romania, and she has suggested a menu of vegetable and bean soup, Romanian beef stew (which I gather from the internet Goulash or Tocanita, with mashed potatoes and cottage cheese pie.
Unfortunately, she is not answering her phone ( I hope she's ok). We still want to go ahead with the Romanian menu, but I really want to serve an authentic meal.
Can anyone help me out with any of those recipes?
They are:
Vegetable/bean soup,
tocanita (goulash)
cottage cheese pie
TIA!
Recs for Indian-themed dinner party
whoa, that's awesome, I feel like I never need to hit an indian restaurant again (except for naan!)
Thanks!
Help with Gift Basket Contents! (For an elderly person)
skip the apples, they will be too hard to chew, instead you can do something like grapes, and cherry tomatoes, cucumber sticks, and dessert. If he doesn't have dietary restrictions, there's no point giving him only healthy foods, he might just want something comforting.
Samosas to go
Different regions of India use different types of dough. It doesn't mean one is authentic and the other is not. India is a very big country. Not everyone cooks the same way, and I'm sure if you had the same dish in various regions it would be different in every one.
At home, we make samosas the way Sultan of Samosas do. Believe me, it is authentic.
Grocery Store Ambiance......
Share the name with those of us who are close enough to find this mythical store!
(it's Mississauaga that you mean :))
Chow deals each day of the week
Hmm that makes sense. The location I used to go was on Kingston Road in Scarborough.
Chow deals each day of the week
Those fries are cut so fat that they always seem dry and undercooked. I must say the Colonel beats chick'n joy in that department.
