Need help with specialty/exotic restaurants!
Wonder Taste in Medford Square has some unusual offerings...I've had duck tongue, duck "maw"(the webbed duck foot) and they sometimes have alligator paw which they get from NYC.

The Storr's, owners of the Swiss Bakers, are opening a shop at the train depot in Reading on March 22.
Caffe Italia in Wakefield
OMG I haven't posted in awhile and wasn't going to post about my dining experience because it was so negative until I saw yours. I couldn't get over what a terrible experience I had at this restaurant. My DC didn't want to go and I convinced him to go and I should have listened because I was furious throughout the whole meal due to poor service and food. I had a special and while it was cooked well, it was bland and too dry, definitely needed a sauce. Sides didn't coordinate. I knew the waitress so felt I had to leave 20% which I routinely do but I would never have done this otherwise. Cannot see this place lasting, the Indian restaurant that had been there previously at least had very good food.
Fresh Peanuts
I've had the Chinese variety out of shell but Southern boiled peanuts are boiled in shell with lots of salt (I use Kosher) and cooked until desired bite-I don't like mine too soft. Great with beer!!!
Market Basket heebie-jeebies
AND STARTING THIS SUNDAY...SOFT SHELL LOBSTERS $4.99 lb.!!!!
Market Basket heebie-jeebies
The fish in the Danvers market looks spectacular. I would only buy fish from a specific place but went in for other things and remarked to the fish monger how great the fish looked. He said they move more fish than any other MB?! I have bought fish occasionally from the Reading MB because they do a very high volume and it has always been good, steamers over the summer were EXCELLENT.
Breakfast suggestion in Reading/No Reading area?

Korean BBQ?
DC and I eat at Chung Ki Wa a lot and I think it is very good. The bulgogi is sweeter than New Jang Su but I have had the pork belly and other meats and thought they were very good. Lunch specials are a FANTASTIC bargain and I think they are much cleaner than New Jang Su. I agree that communication is sometimes difficult!
The Pongal, Billerica: South Indian Buffet 8/31/08
Is this the place that used to be Masalaa? I was sad to see them close as I loved their preparation of dosa, much less oily than other versions I've had. Thanks for the report!!
Brutole in Danvers
I haven't posted in a long time but last night I went with a friend to Brutole in Danvers and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. I checked here before I went because I'd seen this place years ago but it never seems to get much press. We ended up eating in the bar area although at 6 the place was empty but had a very nice atmosphere. We decided to order just apps. because the menu was pricey and I was reluctant to blow $30 on an entree if it was mediocre. For apps. we had a grilled seafood with polenta, nut crusted goat cheese salad with fruit, scallops with truffle oil and cucumber and squash ravioli in browned butter with spinach. All apps. were very good and HUGE. We each had 2 glasses of wine, coffee and shared a dessert-$106 without tip. We left around 9:30 and the bar was full and dining room half full. Menu is heavy on seafood with a chicken dish and a few steak options.
Please educate me re: Italian red sauce
My family's sauce is made with ground crushed tomatoes and a bit of tom. paste but the key to a rich sauce is cooking it for a long time at low heat. My sauce gets most flavor from meat-high quality sausage that it browned in evoo first, along with pork neck bones or any pork pieces and then adding the tomatoes and puree with some water. I cook it all day and add meatballs at some point as well.
Giulio's Bakery, Wakefield
I've been shopping at Farmland and the bakery (Guilio's) for years. I love the apple twists, the half moon almond cookies dipped in chocolate, lobster tails and my kids love the mini desserts. Their square cut pizza is great...reminds me of home in N.Y. On the deli side everything is very good...also try the sausage with rapini-EXCELLENT.
Re. Meletharb's I might have been one of the prior posters as it is a fav. of ours especially for the coffee oreo-the best I've ever had.
Hall of Fame Desserts?
Thanks for the reminder about the BBtart, every year I say I'm going to make it and I never get around to it...this will be the year!!! AND I love cherries, this recipe sounds great!!!
Liver and onions
High end restaurant I used to work in served it dipped in cornmeal and served with caramelized onion marmalade (basically caramelized onions with brown sugar added in) bit of thyme and of course served with some bacon...it made me a convert. Like others have said, cooked only until pink.
Those Muffins
Love seeing what you're up to Candy. These look FANTASTIC! Been too busy to bake lately but I'd love to try them in the future!!!
Dutch Processed Cocoa
I've been having the same problem, you can get it at Whole Wallet. I cannot find it in any of my grocery stores as of late.

NEED A GREAT SALAD RECEIPE FOR POTLUCK
Everyone loves this salad from Epicurious:
Orzo with Everything
Servings: Serves 6.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups orzo (rice-shaped pasta; about 10 ounces)
1/3 cup (packed) chopped drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes
5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup (packed) chopped Kalamata olives or other brine-cured black olives
1 cup finely chopped radicchio (about 1 small head)
1/2 cup pine nuts, toasted
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
2 large garlic cloves, minced
Cook orzo in pot of boiling salted water until just tender but still firm to bite. Drain well. Transfer to large bowl. Add sun-dried tomatoes, oil, vinegar and olives and toss to blend. Let stand until cool.
Mix chopped radicchio, pine nuts, chopped basil, Parmesan and garlic into orzo mixture. Season salad to taste with salt and pepper and serve.

Is L'il Vinny's open for lunch?
I love Chun Ki Wa, best lunch deal going.
Grinder / Hero / Sub / Italian / Coldcut
I was here recently and thought it was awful. The sub was very boring I thought.
My favorite in that area is Little Chucks Deli. I usually get a small which isn't on a crusty roll (which I love) but a soft seeded roll. The subs are huge and really great, they put lett., tom, onion, green peppers, hots, pickles...I love that they have all the veg and it's not chopped, it is sliced veg. I love them so much that I have to limit myself and I'm trying to order a similar idea with just turkey or cappicola...alas not the same!!!
Fat Cat Quincy - eh
I was there on a recent Sat. afternoon and most food was good, not great pub food. I thought the nachos were GREAT, we had the pulled pork which I loved. I had the fish and chips and liked the chips, did not like the fish. Thought the breading was way too much and I'm a HUGE fan of the fish and chips at Zalek's on the N. Shore-perfect batter and fish is excellent...one pup had the burger which was cooked correctly but was cumbersome due to the bread-his was more like foccaica and hard to bite. Older pup had a wrap and other dc had the lobster mac and cheese which I thought had way too much garlic. I could eat a side of this but not a whole portion, way too rich. Staff was great, very friendly and attentive.
Good Dining on the North Shore
I am not a "gaga-er" however, I too thought this was one of the best meals of 2007 and in fact just emailed a dc about going there for dinner in a few weeks. I haven't been in over a year so I am happy to hear it is still good. I loved the atmosphere, and the food was FANTASTIC better than any I've had in Boston as of late.
Ice Cream filled Carrot Cake Cupcake ... Help!
Or you can fill them from the bottom rather than the top, that is how I fill my cupcakes and as long as you don't put too much filling inside, they are fine and don't wreck the top.
Chocolate cake recipe like the one in 'Wichcraft's chocolate cupcake
I just made something like this last week from Food and Wine. I will check their site for you and see if I can pull up the recipe. If not, I will try to post it for you.
Found it...
http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/chocolate-cupcakes-with-cream-filling
Make sure not to over cook them, I made two different batches and used small cupcake holders (the white cup type) which came out better than the ones in a regular muffin tin. Everyone loved them.
Tried & True German Chocolate Cake
I loved this cake as well, I thought it was great and so did my guests!!!
