Taco Bell Chili Cheese Burrito-Gone Forever?

It's my hubbies favorite thing at Taco Bell. He has been talking about it forever, I, unfortunately, have never had the pleasure of trying them.. And I know he has been missing them dearly....Guess I have to do a 'build your own' at the local Taco Bell! :)))

Music in the kitchen?

I Like to listen to any kind of music while prepping, preferably a little upbeat or sing a long, haha! back home my family used to always play music during dinner and after dinner was over the volume would go up and sometimes we'd end up singing and dancing! (haha, few bottles of wine later) Now during dinner I like to play quiet back ground music, like Amos Lee, Norah, Buena Vista Social Club or Patty Griffin. Sometimes Eros Ramazzotti when eating italian, haha!
Music makes cooking (and cleaning up) much more fun. Sometimes I have the TV on but I get distractedto easily and get sucked into whatever is on TV....
Oh, age 27..

pressure cooker [moved from General Chowhounding Topics]

I just saw a really good deal on a pressure cooker. I have never used a pressure cooker in my life, but my brazillian friends say they pretty much use them for anything!
What are the best things to cook in a pressure cooker?
Is there a quality difference in pressurecookers?? I mean, do you need to spend a lot of money or will a $20.- one do the job just as well??

Marrowfat peas anyone?

My absolute favorite beans/legumes are from back home. (holland) Don't think they are actually dutch, but haven't seen them anywhere else.... we call them kapucijners... Think in England they call them Marrowfat Peas. (they're more a type of pea I guess) they look like large brown peas.(They also sell the 'young' ones which are still green) Kind of taste like soft chickpeas... they can be eaten warm & cold and they're soooo good!!! really miss them....
anybody know about these???

you can also make chilli.... with mashed potatoes, best combo ever!!!
you say you're sick of rice & beans, but there are so many different ways of making it!! I like to make it with andouille sausage, mmmm

Hot sauce - What do you have in the house

Sriracha
Harissa ( I so far like Moustapha's Harissa best)
Louisiana Hot Sauce (1 drop doesn't do it though, haha)
Louisiana Gold Hot Sauce, yum!
and just discovered tonight Iguana Habanero, pretty spicy but a good pepper flavor!
oh and of course Tabasco Chipotle!

almost forgot, mix Franks Hot Sauce with ranch dressing for an amazing dip for (fried) chicken!

Best Canned Tomatoes

sorry if my wording wasn't as correct but the dop area does stand for the area around vesuvius, with the volcanic soil, it's been said the tomato flavor is better because the water is purified by the grounds. I am not a san marzano expert, just saying what I have learned.
and of course I understand one can of tomato is not another, I have had terrible Cento's and wonderful ones, all depends on the batch and I am sure it is the same with the S Marzanos.

Old school table manners... what were you taught?

Yes, was pretty much the same at my house. except the hand in the lap part or putting knife and fork down between bites... always had to use fork (left hand) AND knife (right hand) we were never allowed to just eat with our forks (and fork in right hand was a definite no no). Cut one bite size piece at the time but don't put silverware down during bite... My mom would stab my elbow with her fork if I would have it on the table. Don't start eating untill everybody was served. when you are done put your knife & fork at 4 o'clock. No reaching, no reading or watching TV while at the table.... and you would not be excused until everybody finished eating. Once everybody was finished eating we had to help clean up and do the dishes.
Whoever cooked didn't have to clean. (which is still a rule in our house)
I'm very glad my parents were strict about the etiquette...

Best Canned Tomatoes

There are 2 different San Marzano tomatoes. There are the 'breed' of San Marzano, which can be from any region and then there are the actual San Marzano Tomatoes (which you can recognize by the D.O.P.) from the San marzano region. They say the vulcanic grounds gives it the extra flavor.
I have to say I am one of the lucky ones who lives near a Farmers Market where they will always have San Marzano (D.O.P.) available. Always different brands. I have to say some just taste like pretty much any other canned tomato, but my absolue favorite brand has to be:

Italbrand San Marzano (d.o.p.) very tomatoey (is that a word, haha) and you don't need to add a whole lot to make it taste like a good sauce!

For the Non-San Marzano, for tomato sauce we use Cento, for jambalaya, rice & beans, etc I use Hunts...

Atkins diet? Yes or No?

My Parents have been doing South Beach for quiet some time. They have tried Atkins but it is very hard to keep up and yes, they did gain weight back faster than they lost it..... . The SB diet my mom lost about 45 lb and my dad about 55lb. They say it isn't a diet but a lifestyle and according to them very easy to keep up....
