Falling Water - where to have lunch?

You might want to check out River's Edge Cafe about 15 miles away in Confluence. www.riversedgecafebnb.com

New York - Help me EAT!

Check out NY Water Taxi where you get hop on/off at the different stops and not be committed to 2 hours, thus leaving more chow time.

Where to find galaktoboureko in Manhattan?

They have something similiar, but this pastry is like an individual piece of galaktoboureko wrapped in phyllo.

The Greek Kitchen sometimes has it on their menu.

Any dogs on my list of places to eat?

Murray's is a fine place for a bagel and pretty much the best option in Chelsea. They do not toast the bagels though. There is a new bagel place on 8th ave b/t 23/24? I don't remember the name, but the line is much shorter and the seating is better - and they toast.

You may want to consider 2nd Ave deli instead of Katz's if distance/time is a issue.

credit card mix-up: how does this work?

You have to be careful when using cards at a bar. Unlike restaurants that do not ask for payment until AFTER you are presented with a bill, bars start running your card as you start ordering. And once you close a bar tab you are presented with a bill that has already been run and if you dispute a charge or the bill is incorrect your card will have 2 charges - 1 that should disappear after a few days (the wrong amount) and the correct charge. I've learned my lesson too many times --- use cash in bars!

March Madness Midtown

Yeah, I've spent the past many years in search of the perfect sports/sports-like bar where you can just roll up minutes before a game, find a good seat and get some food. I haven't found it yet.

Good reasonable priced steaks

Les Halles has good, reasonably priced steaks - I like the hanger. And the price includes frites. At most steakhouses sides are always separate. Located on Park/28th.

Poor treatment at DaMimmo

Why get into a battle? The waiter is there to serve the customer and at the point where he went off course and said something rude and arrogant he made this couple feel uncomfortable and thus the experience was ruined - at this restaurant. It's not like they went home hungry and angry, they just took their cash someplace else and had a nice time. Really, if the waiter is that brazen to their face, do you really want to get into a battle of words with a man who is going to be handling your food? And an off night is maybe a swamped or absent minded server, this guy has a attitude problem and is in the wrong line of work.

Clearly you need this more then I do....

My favorite credit card "transaction" at bars here in NYC is the padded bar bill, where an extra drink or two shows up when the tab is closed out. This particularly peeves me mostly because they keep the card and run it when you close out the tab and then present you with the already run receipt. But when using a debit card the bank holds the mistake amount and the correct charge for a few days until the charges are cleared. This has happened 3 times within the last 3 or 4 months. The 3rd time I didn't catch it until I got home and looked closer at the receipt.
This post isn't meant to be a dig at bartenders. My post is merely meant to point out the pitfalls of using a card at the bar.

Help/Tips/Advice for improving carb/protein balance in diet

My favorite item that I always keep on hand is Stonyfield Fat Free vanilla yogurt. The taste is creamy and the texture is more like custurd. Buy some frozen blueberries or cherries or whatever you like and mix it in.

There are several high protein cereals and oatmeals on the market like Kashi Go Lean, plus look for ones that are high in fiber/whole grains that will be more satisfying. I really like the Arrowhead Mills brand.

Childish reaction to food at resto?

Your friend definitely acted childish, but moreso the bigger mistake she made was agreeing to go to a sushi restaurant again. Sounds like the first time around when she "really enjoyed" the sushi, she probably was just sucking it up and being nice. And this time around she was set on letting you know, in a very passive-aggressive way, that she did not enjoy food that isn't "cooked to death" - but you already knew this. Wrong choice in resto.

Have you tried DoSirak? I really like the spicy beef soup there. Dok Suni in the EV has a good one too.

PEASANT - good food, RUDE CREW!

That's ridiculous. If a restaurant let's say Babbo where reservations are difficult to come by and has a restaurant full of customers with 6pm reservations - you mean to tell me they all wait outside. Especially in NYC where people rely heavily on public transportaion/traffic. Would a restaurant prefer you to be late for a reservation?
I like to eat on the early side, especially when I don't have reservations and know popular restaurants fill up quick - I've never experieced this ever. Bad business.

Alone & all over NYC for a week

Regarding Thursday night: My husband and I dined at Otto this past week for the first time. We had the pepperoni pizza, which is thin crust and my husband thought it tasted like Cheetos. We also had the carbonara, which after sitting for a few moments kind of became glue like - like the velveeta boxed version of mac and cheese. However we really enjoyed the olive oil and ricotta cheese gelato. If interested in burgers that night I would recommend Molly's between 23rd and 22nd/3rd. It's a laid back Irish pub.

If you liked TiaPol you might want to try Kuma Inn in LES Sat night. It's a Filipino tapas place and BYOB. www.kumainn.com

I'm not sure if you are assuming AOC Bedford is BYOB, but from what I recently searched it seems like it's only BYO Mon and Tues - not sure though.

How is Balthazar, Le gigot and aquagrill these days???

I think you can't do any better than Aquagrill at that price point. Recently I really enjoyed fresh oysters and a delicious cod entree, so good I didn't want to give out samples. Also had a yummy mango dessert.
