Brick Street Bakery opening in the Beach!

well, i can say that if you live in the area, aside from the bread issue, it's def worth a visit for the eccles cakes, if you like that sort of thing - they are fantastic and addictive!

real taste of india - great!

just a quick note to say after trying several take-out/delivery indian places in east end/beaches we finally took out from real taste of india (queen/kingston rd) and we were pleasantly surprised. all was great - butter chicken, tandoori chicken, saag paneer, chicken pakoras, samosas, rice, garlic naan (tons of chopped garlic) - all highly addictive, just the way indian food should be! got lots of food at much higher quality than the other places at pretty much same price ( not cheap, but not bad, and totally worth it.) i highly recomend for anyone in est end. hopefully it wasn't a fluke - im sure we will be having again soon, so i will update then!

Anyone been to Burrito Boyz?

I can also vouch for the halibut burrito (Peter St location) - had a couple of weeks ago, and it was great. I was also surprised and happy to see that the guac was now free. OK, now I'm craving that dang burrito again!

Cupcake Decorating Kit

I vote for bulk barn as well. They have tons of different tips, plus different types of piping bags, not to mention all kinds of other accessories you may be looking for, and lots of different sizes of cardboard boxes as well.

Cake Recommendation?

I second Dufflet. Their baked goods are great quality and they taste amazing (and look good of course!) They also have location north of Yonge/Eglinton, and a new location in the Beaches.

Seeking patio reco, Beaches or Leslieville

The first and only time so far I went to Casa di Giorgio last year it was actually a pleasant surprise. The pizza was good, and the service very good.

Brownie Craving

My favorite brownie in the city is at Remarkable Bean on Queen St E in the beaches (across from the Goof). They are unbelievably moist and have a decadent icing, but no nuts. And they don't have them every day, so it would be quite the travel for no brownie. But if you are ever in the area, I suggest stopping in - they have other amazing baked goods as well - all lovingly home-made.

Black and White Cookie

I would love to know the answer to this as well, if there is one. I used to get them in Ottawa at the french bakery in Byward Market, then one day showed up to buy them, and they acted like I was crazy even asking for them. One day there, next day gone. I haven't had one in years!

Super Healthy Dining/Take Out Options in Toronto? Help!

Since my original post about Camros, I have to say I have become addicted to their kale salad, and they also always have green salad, plus a beet salad. So, it is possible to have a less carby meal there. Also they usually have a spinach stew as well.

refridgerated nuts

Nuts are susceptible to mold growth. I had someone ask me if there were any stores in Toronto that had their nuts refrigerated, and off hand I didn't know of any. Thought someone on here might know!

Sultan of Samosas special today!

I just got an email from my husband who works around the corner, and apparently if you fill out a survey at Sultan of Samosas today, you get 6 free samosas! I can't verify this right now, but am planning on dropping by when I pick him up from work. If anyone stops by there, I'd love to know what the real deal is!

Amato in Leslieville

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Amato, just wanted to share that I drove by the Leslieville location yesterday, and it looked open. Also, I did see several tables/chairs inside.

new brick street bakery website

Every time I went to the brick street bakery website, there was just a contact page, saying check back soon for a real website. That had been for at least a year. This morning, I got a surprise - they now have a real website up! Sadly there is no mention of their soon-to-be-open second location.

Does anyone know if this place is open yet, or will be opening soon? Has anyone been in the area lately? I am in the East end and don't get over there near enough.

Sultan of Samosas

My husband recently got a job in that area, and I tried the place for the first time about a month ago. Love it! I like how the wrapper is thinner than most. And the filling taste was great. Every time I drive by I think about running in to grab a bunch. Trying to restrict myself to once in a blue moon! I like how it is just a little unassuming place in a strip plaza, and inside totally scaled down, no frills there. But great food.

Another bakery in Leslieville!

Their sausage roll is my husband's favorite, and he is from the UK :). I absolutely love their eccles cakes as well - every once in a while I have to head straight over there to have one!

Nice eats at Beaches or near lake for stroll...

It's mostly lunchy-type things, but they also have a breakfast menu. A lot of sandwiches and salads, and I think I saw a few hot entrees listed. There is a chalkboard menu inside on the wall behind the cash. There is also a nice dining room inside in the front and back of the place. It's definitely worth checking out!

Nice eats at Beaches or near lake for stroll...

I had an amazing salad yesterday at Sun Soleil Cafe, which is pretty much right across from Pier One. They have a nice little patio outside, great friendly atmos, and amazing fresh bread. I tried it for the first time last summer and really liked the way I felt there, even just having tea. I also had an amazing half sandwich to go from there about a month ago - they have some near the cash, on that amazing bread.

A friend of mine also cannot get enough of Green Eggplant, across from the Vespa store, in the old il fornello spot. I have been once, and found it better than average, and it is getting a lot of attention. Personally, I like the convenience and more homey feel of the scaled down sun cafe. Plus you get to sit outside!

King Street East... a culinary wasteland??

Just wanted to point out, my friend and I got sandwiches at Brick Street Bakery on a cold day (and yes the sandwiches are out of this world, as well as all their other baked options - especially the eccles cakes) and there was a little bench at the far right under the menu board which we sat on - not sure if we were supposed to sit there, but we did and nobody said anything!

Downtown Fruit Smoothies

Has anyone had the smoothies from Lettieri? There are a few locations downtown (Queen/Spadina, TD Centre, Front/Church) and I was impressed with their offerings last time I looked at their menu, but have not tried them - I usually have one of their organic teas, which are really nice!
