I have a large amount of frozen smoked salmon but...

whenever friends drop by unexpectedly first thing i do is whip out a filet of my salmon... just throw it on a cheese board with a dollop of cream cheese, a few olives and pickels whatever you have on hand and some good crackers... no need to defrost, usually by the time you get everything else on the plate and pour everyone a drink it has defrosted... everyone thinks you've slaved for hours... always a hit!

back when there were actual family farms in steveston...

Gudrun tasting bar - Richmond, BC

forgive me, yes it is industrious and over-priced, kitchy yet trendy yada yada... but having grown up sea-side and now living landlocked in the valley, i find any opportunity to be near the ocean, an excellent one... those who see it and enjoy it daily, typically do take it for granted...

Gudrun tasting bar - Richmond, BC

"gudrun offers a variety of fresh, locally produced meats, cheeses, salads and breads. we are currently working on a fall menu of artisinal cheeses and charcuterie." -gudrun website

From what information i have from the gudrun group on facebook, the restaurants opening is scheduled for Nov. 17th... this is just an invite only cocktail party... as for an actual opening i am unsure... www.gudrun.ca provides address and contact info along with some of the future menu and tasting options as well as their mission statement and a list of suppliers.

I am super excited for this new place... a little bit of the city in gorgeous steveston. This place really goes back to basics and allows people to really learn to appreciate simple, basic, delicious food! Well done Patrick!

Inspire Me: What are your cooking plans for this weekend?

just a warning, if you are going to try brioche this weekend becareful and make sure your home is really warm... if it is raining and warm the humidity might be a little high and you may have problems with it raising correctly...

Rubbermaid Premier food storage containers...love, love, love...

looks like a great product.. i love the no staining, just curious though, the bases look like hard clear plastic/resin and i find that products like that tend to shatter very easily, especially if frozen (im a complete clutz!) i would love to buy a set but don't want to spend all that money on "tupperware" that im going to break. if thats the case ill just keep re-using my sour cream containers (lol jk)

Tahini (sesame paste)...a key ingrediant?

I always make hummus when I'm in a pinch and companys coming. I just use a little sesame oil in place of some of the olive oil and a couple of heaping teaspoons of almond butter. It gives it a nice thick consistancy and all the nutty flavor. Besides I usually have it in the pantry so it saves making another trip to the store.
