Is it me, or is Fairway in Paramus taking a turn for the worse?

Corrado's may have far better prices, but it is very hit or miss. Most of their produce/fruit/veggies are ripe and ready toeat. that is fine, but if you want to shop for the week, half the stuff goes bad before you get to eat it. I like the quality of Fairway's produce section.

Has anyone tried Sage in Fair Lawn (formerly Campania)?

I've been there twice-I enjoyed it, although I would not put in my top 10 !. It is a BYOB, which to me adds points to the place! Entrees include a salad, the waitstaff was very attentive, and the owner was attentive as well.

Does anyone remember an Italian restaurant in Elmwood Park?

Are you referring to the place that was off of River Drive near the Marcal plant? It was on a corner of a residential street surrounded by private houses? I can't remember the name of it right now, but it served Italian/Continental food.

Picnic restaurant is closed

Sad to say that Picnic Restaurant in Fair Lawn has closed. It will be missed. It was one of the best BYO's in Bergen County.

Bar Mitzvah Morris County

Have you considered renting out a bowling alley, or perhaps a gym. I know my kids went to quite a few at gyms, where there were a lot of choices for kids to keep themselves occupied. You can also have a DJ there, and have it catered for relatively inexpensive by going for lots of finger foods, salads and a few 6 foot heros. You can hire a sketch artist, bring in a photo booth company etc.

How to FInd A Good Cheap Caterer for an Outdoor Wedding

Congrats on your upcoming marriage. That said, I think it will be very hard to find a great caterer for $25.00 a head, especially if you want china. My husband is in the business, (high end) have you considered going with a high qulaity plastic plate as opposed to using china. China adds to the cost becaues it is not disposable. Also, is the venue including wait staff, etc? The venue can probably recommend some local caterers to you in your price range. Wish I could help you out with some suggestions, but I am not familiar with caterers in that area.

Soda Fountains & Sweet Shops

I agree with nizza. I've been going to Bischoff's in Teaneck for years. It really hasn't changed at all- a great old fashioned ice cream shop, with great candy also! Plus, it's on the main drag and has some really neat shops as well as a movie theater.

Picnic Fairlawn

I had lunch with my husband last week at Picnic. There were only a few other tables occupied as it was late (1:30 PM). I had an onion tart which was delicious, as well as a salad. I was planning on ordering a ceasar salad, however I overheard the waiter say to the table near us..We're sorry, but we've run out of romaine lettuce. My husband, who is a caterer, laughed. How can you run our of lettuce. Send someone out to buy a few heads of lettuce at ShopRite, instead of not having a common item! It's not as if it was a specific type of truffle needed. But overall, the food was great. We plan to return for dinner one day.

Sushi X in Ridgewood

I am not certain that Sushi X is all you can eat anymore. I recall seeing a sign in the woindow that as of a certain date, thery were discontinuing their all you could eat policy. I've been there quite a few times, and the quality has gone downhill. We ate there about 6 weeks ago at lunch- the fish tasted stale. It was not spoiled, but it just wasn't fresh. We've crossed this restaurant off our list. I'd much rather eat at Sakura Bana, just down the street, and around the corner!

Happy Hour in Bergen County

My husband and I go there all the time for happy hour. Great place to get a 2 drinks, 2 apps and the bill is $20.00. (takes away the p[ain of paying $12.00 for a movie ticket) I love their Asian Nachos. Their Happy Hour appetizer menu has gotten a bit smaller this past year, but there is plenty of variety. There is a choice of about 10 full size apps to chose from, a few cocktails, house wines and 16 oz. on tap beers.

Frog and the Peach behaving badly.

Ive been to the Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick twice in the last month. Each time the waiter, who I think was the same person tried to upsell us hard on beverages.

In regards to your comments, sometimes it is not the waiters fault. They have told by the management they are to push certain items, beverages etc to increase the check average. that said, if they do not do it, and the manager walks by, they get spoken to. Also, some restaurants have competitions to see who can have the highest beverage tab total, etc, and the server gets a prize.
I also find it annoying, but just as we are told how to do our jobs (unless we are the owners/managers) so are many servers. I just so No thank you and turn away,

60th Birthday Luncheon for about 12

If you are willing to travel, Mykonos Taverna, on Broadway at the Border where Elmwood Park meets Fair lawn iswonderful. The food is delicious, and the service very attentive. The New York Times reviewed it 2 weeks ago and gave it a glowing review. It's a great place to share appetizers, the salads are very large, and there are a variety of entrees.
By the way, happy early birthday.

bar mitzvah cake suggestions ...bergen county bakery

try Zadies Kosher Bake Shop, 19-09 Fair LAwn Ave, Fair # 201-797-6565.
Their cakes, as well as everything else, isdelicious. My husband is a caterer and they order from there frequently. As far as cost, I have no clue, but it won't be cheap. Another suggestion, if you are trying to save some $$, and it does not have to be Kosher, is to call Stop and Shop or Whole Foods in Ridgewood and price out a cake there.

restaurants near The Palisades Mall

I'm meeting a family member at The Palisades Mall and treating her to dinner. She is not from the area, traveling through, and it is a convenient place to meet. That said- I am not a big fan of chain restaurants, and would prefer not to eat at the mall. I'm looking for a recommendation for a local restaurant (within 10 minutes) of the mall. Any type of cuisine is fine. She does not eat meat or pork, but will eat fish, pasta etc. I'm looking for a casual type of place, as opposed to fancy place. Thanks in advance. I'd like to stay on the mall side of the Tappanzee Bridge so we don't get caught up in traffic.

New Jersey is getting its own CH board [moved from Mid-Atlantic board]

I second that yipee! I love reading the boards, but always look for the New Jersey restaurants.

My son turns 18! NNJ, please

A great place to take teens is The Shannon Rose Pub, in CLifton, NJ. the food, although certainly not gourmet, is decent. There are always lots of teen and local college kids in there. IT's in the Clifton Commons on Rt 3 East, towards the back of mall facing Target. In the summer I work at a day camp with lots of teens, and they love to hang out there.

Coconut M&M's in Westchester?

Check your local Blockbuster- they are featuring them this month.

Family-Friendly restaurant stop near Woodbridge, NJ area?

If you are taking the Garden State Parkway through NJ, get off at Rt 1 (it's either exit 129 or 130) There are tons of family friendly chains there to eat. There is also the Woodbridge mall about a 1/2 mile away from the exit, and the kids can burn off some energy there quickly.

Wayne NJ-area inquiry

I also agree with looking at the towns of Montclair as well as Ridgewood. You could also look at townhomes in Wayne, as it is a short drive (about 15-20 minutes) to Montclair. Ridgewood is farther, not too bad. Franklin Lakes is also very nice town that is quite close to Wayne. I'm not certain that Franklin Lakes has any town homes though.
Fair Lawn is next to Ridgewood. they have some new TownHome rentals on Rt 208, which would be an easy commute to Wayne. Both Ridgewood and Fair Lawn are near Fairway Market, a fun grocery store with lots of great products that you cannot find elseware.

Chef Central/Paramus kids cooking school?

I highly recommend the teen cooking classes at Chef Central in Paramus. My daughter did it for 3 or 4 summers, plus took many of the teen sessions during the school year. Jim, who runs the program is a CIA grad, and does not teach the kids like babies, but as young adults. They really learn to cook, and make some teriffic food. One summer my daughter learned to make stuffed shrimp. The kids have a great time, and make some great new friends who share their interests. it may be expensive, but well worth it. The tuition also includes a tool kit which the kids get to keep at the end of the week/

NJ Bergen/Passaic Bat Mitzvah Venues

Does it need to be a Kosher Affair? If not, The Landmark on Rt 17 in Rutherford does do Bat Mitzvahs- If you invite 80 adults, 50 kids are free.. That would not break the bank. The food, although not gourmet, is decent for a Bat Mitzvah. My kids went ot quite a few there.
If it is Kosher, then I can give you some names of places alos that allow you to Bring in Caterers. You can also check out hotels- they do a great job, and will also give you a break on room prices for out of town guests.

Need Secaucus - Union City Recommendations

I'm not 100% certain the restaurant is still there, but for years there was a fantastic Japanese restaurant in the center of town called Suga. If it's still there, give it a try. The food is always fresh.

Smokey Joe's in Teaneck!

If the author of the first post about Smokey Joe's is who I think it is, he is just a teen and not associated with the place. He probably ate there and really likes it!
It's a shame that people post opinions and get slammed for them,. Everyone has their own tastes. some people love a place, some people hate it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Riverside Manor- Fair Lawn/Paterson Border

Tried the new Riverside Manor today for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The food is Italian/Continental. The lunch menu ranges from a $9.00 hamburger to a $15.00 full chicken/veal entree. The menu has pasta, seafood, panninis and salad at lunch, to seafood, chicken, pork, veal and beef at dinner. Delicious multigrain rye rolls and butter rosettes were also offered. The setting is upscale, and the service friendly, without being overbearing and hovering. We're definitly going to go back for dinner soon.

Kosher Food in Bloomington, IN

The food at the IU Hillel is very good IMO.

The IU Hillel has a new cook this year. According to my daughter, she is still "learning how to cook Jewish foods" and the food is not that great. However, the folks at Hillel are very welcoming, and do have offer free shabbos meals after services.

Ridgewood-New Jersey-The Stable

I ate lunch there a few weeks ago. The staff was pleasant and efficient, and my food was very good. I had a steak sandwich, and it arrived at the table medium rare as ordered. The dinner menu looked interesting. Our waiter said that at dinner time they come around to the tables with the meats on large skewers, and they cut the meat tableside. There was also other things on the menu for non meat eaters.

New Years eve restaurant - bergen county NJ

Sabor in Hawthorne, which is next to Ridgewood, is a lot of fun. You can get noisy, the food is very good, and their sangria is great.

Tabachnik's Deli

I'm not sure that Tabatchnik's Deli is in existence anymore. Petaks, in Fair Lawn on Fair Lawn Ave right off of Route 208, and the Kosher Nosh, in Glen Rock on Prospect St, both make awesome Sloppy Joe's.

Dinner Recs near Izod Center/Continental Airlines Arena?

We've sent many of our NY friends to Park and Orchard in Rutherford (or maybe East Rutherford ). Their food is fresh, their menu creative! My favorite dish is scallops with cashew nuts and bananas. They have lots of chicken, pasta and vegetarian dishes on the menu, along with a few red meat dishes. It is a busy restaurant, so go early and enjoy your meal. The restuarant is no more than a 5 minute drive from Izod. If you haven't been to the Izod Center lately, the parking is a mess- allow extra time for parking!
