sense on n6

It closed in April after running a 1/2 price promotional menu for two or three weeks. This morning I noticed a new sign up saying it'll reopen this Thursday night--the earlier menu was sort of a grab-bag of Asian foods; now it's billing itself as a Sushi place and Japanese bar, so I assume it's narrowed focus in the month or so it's been closed.

lunch breaks in Dumbo?

I'll second Pedro's--excellent food, great people, better than anything I've eaten for lunch in Dumbo. The only other place I regularly visited and enjoyed while working in that neighborhood was (totally opposite end of the spectrum) Almondine across the street from Jacques Torres (sorry, I can't remember the name of the street).

Peter Pan's Doughnut Shop

Yeah, it's on the right. The chocolate and the honey glazed are particularly good.

Silent H is open and its great!

Ooph I can't wait. . . the thought of a banh mi within spitting distance has me drooling. And from what I've seen (from peering in through the half-opened windows) it does look like a great reinvention of Oznot's space.

Fette Sau to open in Williamsburg Fall 06

I have it on good authority they're in spitting distance of opening--maybe next month.

They also seem to be preparing to open a specialty beer store in the space the Bedford Cheese Shop left in the Mini-mall. Yum.

oyster omelette?

It's not in Brooklyn, but Prune makes a fried oyster omelette that's pretty amazing--1st st. between 1st and 2nd aves in the city. It's only at brunch I think.

Pies and Thighs

As far as I know, most of the sides (the collards, beans, etc) are vegetarian. All of the mains are meat centered, but I believe they have a fried catfish (if you're that sort of vegetarian)

Suggestions in Williamsburg

Working backwards, I'd end my eating day in Williamsburg at Marlow & Sons. In the afternoon I might go for a snack at Zipe-Zape (Berry & Metropolitan). Lunch at Dumont Burger (Bedford & S. Something) or Pies & Thighs (under the Wmsburg Bridge).

BYOB - Brooklyn

I've heard from many that Gribouille is byo. It's on Roebling south of Metropolitan.

Stealth williamsburg greats!

It's between Bedford and Berry, in that strange teal building on the south side of N. 5th.

I've had some really good food from there, too.

Fette Sau to open in Williamsburg Fall 06

It's across Metropolitan Ave from SD, in a tiny (maybe 10ft wide) spot a little west of Havemeyer. Lately some paint has gone up, and some wood as part of what looks like a big outdoor eating area. But it's certainly not buzzing. Slow-cooking, more like.

Fette Sau to open in Williamsburg Fall 06

Alas, no. To a passer-by it doesn't even look close. Since it doesn't look like they're planning much indoor seating maybe they're going to hold off until spring?

Williamsburg Brooklyn Best Pizza Pie?

I like a lot about Fornino's pizzas, but I've never had one that was just right. That's probably because I get them delivery and they've lost their edge in transit, or because I get them to stay and the restaurant is playing horrendous music and I can't concentrate on the food.

When I want a slice, it's always from Driggs. The grandpa slice is addictive.

bakeries in williamsburg?

You can get some good bread at Napoli Bakery on Metropolitan. It's a few blocks west of Graham on the south side of the street.

And you can buy bread (I think) and pies (I know) from Pies & Thighs under the Wmsburg Bridge.

I've heard good things about Cheeks bakery on Metropolitan near Havemeyer (south side of the street)--it's more like the kind of bakery you might find in the Village--but I wasn't too excited about what I had the one time I went. (Granted, it was toward the end of the day)

top 3 restaurants iin williamsburg?

Good point. The service does manage to feature the worst of Williamsburg (too-cool-to-serve-you) plus the worst of Manhattan ("sparkling or still?").

But since I'm posting again, I'll take the opportunity to recommend Diner and Zipe Zape (for a casual street-side afternoon snack).

top 3 restaurants iin williamsburg?

Dressler, Aurora, Marlow & Sons.

I'd have given a nod to Sweetwater but they seem yet again to have a new chef and I haven't tried any of his food.

McCarren Park Pook - Saturday Night Concerts

All the pool concerts are catered by Sparky's--hamburgers and hot dogs. Beer is provided by Brooklyn Brewery.

Just one taco, one at a time, in Williamsburg

I've been wanting to recommend Taco Bite ever since this post went up, but I couldn't remember the name of it. I've only been once, but I thought it was just as good as Matamoros and, as the above poster mentions, it's a nicer place to eat than the back of Matamoros.

great hamburger in brooklyn

Sweetwater in Williamsburg has an excellent--though decidedly not diner-style--hamburger. It's served on an english muffin with cheese and (I think) caramelized onions, which may sound twee to you but I assure it isn't.
