New BBQ place in Bridgeport - Dickeys
Don't get your hopes up. Some have come and gone already in St. Louis. Not good....
Couple of quick Qs about St. Louis - hotel location, etc
I also want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the detailed report. I as a local have not been to several of these places. It is always nice to hear a fresh opinion on both the ones I have not been to, as well as the ones I have.
Thanks and hope you enjoyed the visit overall!
Special birthday lunch or dinner in St. Louis
No wonder I can't find a lunch menu!
Thanks
Special birthday lunch or dinner in St. Louis
Another place I love. Not quite as modern maybe as the places you have listed or others have but definitely in your price range and I really like the food, is Mama Josephines. It is "down home" cooking. Much more casual than alot these other places but great for a small group IMO. I see them there every time I go.

How about Five Bistro for lunch?
I have not checked the menu but I believe it would fall into your range.
i did just look but can't find a lunch menu....So not sure but maybe someone else is...
Sweet Vermouth
I love Noilly Pratt. Kind of surprised to see the lack of mention. I will try Cocchi Vermouth di Torino when I get a chance. Thanks for the rec. Alsi like Punt e Mes especially in a Red Hook...
We will be in STL April 27-29 and need suggestions for food

Good Tacs in STL?
Which is why you need to do BOTH Hillfood!
Actually, they are owned by the same people and they are really great folks IMO.
Usually MWilliams, they do an outdoor pork thing on Sundays it it is nice out on the right side as HF noted. Right now it is really nice. I would try both.
Also Hillfood, their Chorizo is something fantastic from the market on the right. They gave me a freebie link to take home and grill when I told the Mrs. I was grilling that weekend.
Really really great and I would not even normally like a Chorizo like that . Trust me.
Good Tacs in STL?
My response is ONLY about Taco Al Pastor.
La Tejana is a dive joint on Lindbergh. Excellent place. If you arre flying in, it is actually very near the airport.

Also Pueblo Nuevo for the Tacos Al Pastor. The other stuff is good but the TAP is aweome.
Also, that is OFF THE MENU at PN.
Dining in O'Fallon and Nearby
I posted this an hour ago but it looks like it fell in a black hole...

Well you lucked out. You are in a much better and more central area.
Where are you from? What sort of price range? I have some suggestions for you but would like a little more feedback.
Thanks
Pairing Cocktails and Cheese
I just ran across this one which though not a 60;s cocktail, looks very interesting...
Queen Bee (still on the menu @ Carlyle)
3/4 Vodka (try subbing, Gin, Rye or Bourbon they all work)
3/4 St. Germain
3/4 Lemon
1/4 Clover Honey Syrup
Shake and serve up
Top with 1 1/2 oz Dry Champagne
Pairing Cocktails and Cheese
I was at a really great bar last night. VERY extensive cocktail list 150+, their own barrel aged cocktails, their own custom barrel of Elijah Craig, you get the drift.
They had This item-
CABRALES CIGARS †
Spanish blue cheese & leek fondue, rolled into phyllo cigars then pan seared; accented with sherry-raisin sauce
At the bar only, they serve a side of St.-Germain with it and instructed us to let the food rest on the palette for a minute and then follow with the St.-Germain.
They were excellent.
Maybe you could do some sort of Vodka Gimlet or other Vodka drink of some sort and incorporate the St. Germain? That would give it a new twist. They would probably really love the St.-Germain. I know I do.
It worked great with the dish though I will admit the sherry-raisin sauce was quite forward vs the Bleu Cheese...
But the more I think about it, S-G has that sort of reminiscent of a white grape profile which would probably work VERY well with lots of cheeses.
Back to St Louis for shopping trip.
We went to the Gas Station one. I had heard that was the one to go to plus I wanted to see that one. I did not end up going to Juians. The reviews left me unsure to be honest. I really like user reviews, but sometimes I don't... LOL
Something about the meat being the size of a diet brownie or something.... ; )

LOL. I wasn't planning on one but short and sweet. The Pulled pork is not better than Bogarts nor were the sides.
The Ribs though, probably the best I have ever eaten. They have much more of for lack of a better word, a "char" on them then you get slow smoking on the big smokers. Char in a good way. They reminded me much more of what I get out of my back yard. I think that is what Bogarts attemps to do by torching them in the end but OJ's were simply outstanding.

Awesome Wekick! Glad you tried it and liked it!
Sounds like a great Friday lunch. Except. Guess where I ate lunch at on Friday???

Did you see my note the other day?
Some of the best I have ever had....
When are you coming?

Directly across Craig Road assuming you are going to the one in Creve Coeur, is the better of the two local grocers, Dierbergs.

Couple of quick Qs about St. Louis - hotel location, etc
Question one, those are the two best areas. The loop is much younger, thrift vibe with some Rasta mixed in.
The Central West End is not really near as many shops in my opinion. More restaurants and bars but much prettier and spread out. Like a Brownstone vibe.
In the West End, I hear good things about Majestic for Breakfast but have never been. If you want a splurge brunch (at least on non easter days), the Ritz in Clayton is outstanding.
In the West End I would also be up for trying Brasserie.

Your favorite gin for classic cocktails?
I didn't read the article yet. This all based on taste correct? Is it not true that some more expensive product may be more refined and cause less hangover etc? ie- Distilled four times instead of three, etc...
Grits, Gravy??
Turned our REALLY good....

Your favorite gin for classic cocktails?
Maybe it is because I use sort of a 1.5 oz G, 1 oz campari, 3/4 oz or so Vermouth (depending on brand)....
Updated KC suggestions
Thanks alot Mike.
Any other restaurant suggestions? Also looking for a breakfast spot worth checking out.
