Wan-Fu III
OK, I've eaten at Wan-Fu 2, and it was great. Went to WF3, and while the food was great tasting, it turns out that it had some sort of shellfish contamination, and I spent a horrible 3 days recovering from a severe allergy attack. I ordered the Orange Chicken, and specifically asked the wait person if there was any kind of shellfish or shellfish based sauce, and was told no. If that's the case, then they contaminated my food with an uncleaned wok or dipped shellfish in the batter or something. If you have shellfish allergies, I'd think long and hard before eating at WF3.
Fajita Warehouse - blech
Well, I've found that any restaurant with the word "warehouse" in their name pretty much sucks.
Help with first Austin Trip!
Hope you enjoy the trip, Austin's alot of fun! Try Threadgills, a must for the old Austin dining experience, Mangia Pizza is also very good.
Hut's
Hut's was great when I moved here 17 years ago, but has gone waaaay downhill since. The last time I ate there my burger was dry and tasteless, I'll stick to Dan's or Dirty's.
Pizza in Austin
Mangia is the best pizza imo, alot of ppl like East Side Pies, I'm friends with one of the owners, but I will say that it depends on the day you go there, it's not always good. Their stuff is all made there, like their sausage and pesto, which helps.
Soul Food in Austin?
Anyone know of a good soul food place? I haven't had good soul food since I was a kid eating at friends' houses, nobody cooks great food like the old grandmas!
East Side Pies, other attempts at NY pizza [AUS]
I'm friends with one of the owners of East Side, and I agree, the crust is crap. My mother is an Italian from Chicago, and I'm a chef-turned-organic farmer, and I know pizza. The rest of their food is hit and miss, but that just might be me, I'm VERY picky when it comes to my food, especially pizza. Just had an email conversation with the CEO of Austin's Pizza about their consistently burned crust, tasting of burned cornmeal. He assured me that this wasn't usually the case, but I don't really believe him, since it's been that way every single time I've eaten there. I'll give them one more try, but after that, I'm sticking to Mangia.
Great Burger
I haven't had a good burger at Top Notch since the owners turned the place over to their grandchildren. So sad, it was one of the best, and right down the street, I could get there on my scoot.
