Just had a lovely dinner the other night at Fleming's. Every time I go there, I find a new reason to love it. They know how to do a fantastic steak, their potatoes are unbelievable, they pair food and wine well, the atmosphere is refined without being snobby, and it's just a lovely meal experience. The Mahi mahi special was incredible, the spinach salad was fresh and the dressing piquant and fruity. I had the filet (yes, i know, but it's a great filet there!) and it was perfect, with a thin, spicy crust holding in the juices of a cut of meat that melts in your mouth. Fleming's potatoes, with cheese and cream and jalapenos, is the guiltiest of guilty pleasures. Didn't have room for dessert, just a scotch. Everyone babbles about Grill 23 (which is great) and Ruth's Chris (which is not) and the Oak Room (which has about as much appeal to those under 50 as a tire fire) but Fleming's consistently flies under the radar despite it's wonderful food. |
