We had Moe's again this week. It was very good again. I had the pulled pork, cornbread (which was not as good as some times before), sweet potato casserole, friend green tomatoes, and watermelon salad. I really like the watermelon salad. It's easy to replicate at home, too. The food was very good. The sauce seemed better this time - a bit more spice and vinegar than I remembered.
Wright Dairy in Birmingham?
There is a store in Pelham now right on 31 that sells the milk and a few other items. Berries Market.

Wow, I've lived here 17 yrs and not tried either place. Will have to do that soon. I had never even heard of Green Acres. How did I miss that?
Birmingham Better DIning w/children
Mine are 13 and 11 year old twins now, but they've been out a lot. I remember having them in Standard Bistro at 8 years of age. One server treated us kind of odd at first, but by the end of the meal, she was fine. I think she anticipated the worst. We've been to Hot and Hot but only once with the kids...that was maybe 3 years ago. I just am not a fan of that place all that much. I've had them in most of the other places mentioned here with no problems. Their fav is always Standard Bistro. Although, my daughter often requests Flemings. She loves going there.
Birmingham birthday dinner
Thanks to you both. We've been to Hot and Hot and it must have been on an off night. I was not impressed. We typically go to Standard Bistro for most special occasions and always love that. I did make reservations at Highlands. Called and got right in for April 7. I was just second guessing after thinking about Dupont and reading something else about Chez Fonfon.

Is this related to the Rib It Up that used to be down 280 in Brook Highland about 10 years ago? If so, it would be awesome. I used to love that place. Never could figure out why it closed. Was always packed. I ate there the night before my twins were born and I swear, I must have eaten 20 ribs. LOL
Birmingham birthday dinner
Planning on a birthday dinner in April and have a few to choose from. Which would you pick and why? We haven't been to any of these.
Cafe Dupont, Chez Fon Fon, or Highlands?
I am leaning towards Highlands, simply because it's Highlands and I have never been. But after reading Cafe Dupont's menu...I am second guessing. I ate at his place in Springville years back and still remember it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Tin Roof was our fav for years. It started going downhill IMO about 4 years ago and we have only been back a few times since. It had not improved at our last visit.
We now get bbq at the Moe's on Rocky Ridge. Have not tried their other locations. Their bbq is awesome. I love the sweet potato sides and fried green tomatoes are ok. Have not tried any others. My husband adores the collard greens.
BBQ shrimp, etc. recs
Thanks to all of you. I'll skip the Brennan's. I went there in...what was it...1986, maybe? :) We'll try Commander's or Galatoire's for dinner. I'll be sure to call ahead and see what I can get. We'll be going midweek so we may be OK.
The kids are saying we have to go to Pascal's, since it's the original, but now I can't decide.
BBQ shrimp, etc. recs
We'll be visiting New Orleans next week. Tasting the beignets already! :) Our kids are old enough to go to any restaurant now and I've promised them at least one place for bbq shrimp. Where should we plan for? I'd also love at least one great dinner, whether it's Commander's Palace, Two Sisters, or the like. Maybe Brennan's for breakfast. What requires reservations and how far in advance? It's been years since I've been to NO. Thanks for any info.
Moving to Birmingham, AL and need lots of advice (long)
Wow, love reading all the replies! I have learned a lot about many different places in this city even though I have been here 15 years.
I'll have to try Bettola. Last time we were at Pepper Place, we had a good meal at Cantina. I liked the tacos and also requested corn! LOL Did not like the sweet potato fries, as someone else mentioned.
I know for southerners, BBQ is very personal, but I don't care for Jim 'n Nick's at all. I prefer Tin Roof at Southlake. Their pulled pork is my fav.
