In need of 2 Dinner Recs for our first trip to the Bay Area Hi All, Gearing up for a trip to San Fran in May. We will be visiting friends that live in Sausalito. We need your help with the following recs: Thurs. night dinner- Our flight (SFO) doesn't get in until around 8, so would love to go straight to dinner from there. This dinner should be fun and easygoing, with good drink options. Saturday night- We would like to treat our hosts to dinner. So either in the city or in Sausalito. Middle of the road, price wise ($15-$30 per entrée). A few restrictions here: 1 picky eater with seafood allergies and 1 pregnant lady. Thanks in advance for all recs! Looking forward to our visit! |

Mexican Iced Coffee in Downtown?? Hey all... Headed to Austin next week and so looking forward to our trip. Was in Boston a few weeks back and had the most AMAZING Mexican Iced Coffee (had choc, chili and cinnamon in it). Do you think I might be able to find something similar down there? We are staying at the W, so would prefer a fairly close proximity to the hotel. Thanks! |

Hey all! Headed to HHI the week of Labor Day and need some suggestions for our dining options. One option we are considering is a restaurant hop one night. Thinking of starting at Wise Guys for happy hour and then stop somewhere mid island for small plates/apps/cocktails and finish up in Sea Pines where we are staying. Would love to hear your ideas! Thanks in advance! |

App & Ales tour of Boston- Tell me your best bites and drinks!! Thanks so much for all of these suggestions! Can't wait to eat and drink through Boston. By place to go out for 20s-30s, I mean a place that will have that age group. Our preference would be somewhere that plays great music or bonus for live music! Not a club, though. |

App & Ales tour of Boston- Tell me your best bites and drinks!! Hey y'all, Two Southern girls headed to Boston in September. We've not booked our hotel yet, but will likely stay in the Copley Square area. I think our plan is going to do an apps & ales tour, rather than a standard dinner on Saturday night. We would like to plan 4-5 stops, where we can get great drinks and appetizers/small plates. If it is all walkable, that is great, but if we have to do so cabs or whatnot, that is fine. Bonus points if final destination lands us near a good place to go out for 20s-30s. I realize it might be harder to advise without a home base, but your recs will greatly influence where we stay. Thanks in advance! Can't wait to spend the weekend in your city! |

Tierra Verde & Surrounding Areas Headed back to TV for the first time since 2008. In need of some dinner/lunch spots (nothing fancy... fresh and local a plus!!!). Last time we were there I remember eating the cuban salad at Billy's and the crab cakes at Backfin Blue. Anxious to hear what you suggest. Many thanks in advance! |

Tailgating JIMMY BUFFETT Style Putting together a tailgate for the Jimmy Buffett concert tomorrow. So far we are going to do shrimp and cheeseburgers (in paradise?) on the grill. Im gonna mix up some margs and maybe do key lime tarts for dessert, but need some other ideas... especially for the sides. Was thinking GA caviar would be a good light one, but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! |

What are your favorite Southern Living recipes? Thanks! It looks great, and I love the ramekin idea. |

What are your favorite Southern Living recipes? I am interested in trying some new recipes and have a few SL cookbooks, so my question for you is what to make?! I'm looking to expand my file of tried and true, so I'd love to have your suggestions :) TIA |

America's Test Kitchen / Cook's Illustrated Warehouse Clearance Sale Did you order any? Is this directly from their website? I didn't recognize the address. Good deals... Guess I'm just a little hesitant. |

My Mother always made these at Christmas time and used Gulf wax. My Dad was a big chocolate fan, so he always requested they be double dipped! Yum! |

Dinner FAIL... Thai Corn Fritters/Cakes Would you be willing to share the recipe? They sound delish! Is the dipping sauce straight Sirracha or a combo? |
|
|
Dinner FAIL... Thai Corn Fritters/Cakes I will absolutely try this one! Looks pretty similar with less flour and egg. Thanks so much! |

Dinner FAIL... Thai Corn Fritters/Cakes Of course! Corn Fritters Was going for a crisp (both in veggie and fried texture). I wanted almost all corn, but this ended up being at least have paste like batter :( |

Dinner FAIL... Thai Corn Fritters/Cakes I am sad to report that half of tonight's dinner went in the trash. I made sweet chili salmon with corn fritters and wasabi mashed potatoes. The corn fritters were just AWFUL. First of all, when fried, they looked like they were held together with brown paste rather than being all veggie like the pic in my cookbook. I think it was just way to much binder (3/4 cup AP flour, 2 eggs). Anyone have any good ideas on these? I think it could have been a nice meal with a little recipe tweaking, but I just do not have a lot of experience with these! |

Found another good one... Person Street Pharmacy has 2 hotdogs for $1 on Wednesdays! Great deal and they have great service. You might even luck out post lunch and find the Krispy Kreme HOT sign on :) ----- Krispy Kreme |

What are your easy no fail Asian recipes? Fried rice... I usually do it with spicy shrimp and then save the leftover shrimp for tacos the next day. Can't wait to hear others favs :) |

Have any of y'all seen this show? Tried any of the recipes? I am hesitant... They did do Mac and Cheese in individual ramekins for portion control, which I thought was a good idea and made for a nice presentation. Anxious to hear what y'all think! |

I had not even thought of Lemongrass, but that is a fantastic idea! Thai food is one of my absolute favorites! Thank you all so much for the comments and ideas! It is greatly appreciated :) |

Wow! I am so impressed and inspired :). Thanks for the tip on the mint! I was thinking of adding it next, although I will probably have to start that from a plant rather than seed if I want it in time for the Derby! Into it's own pot it will go! |

Hello All... I have just ventured into the world of growing your own herbs after getting tired of paying $4 for fresh basil, so a few questions: What do you grow? What do you find essential for a fresh herb garden (so far I have a Rosemary plant and my basil and parsley seeds are starting to sprout)? When you go to replant seedlings, do you plant in the biodegradable cups? Lastly, what is your favorite use of fresh herbs? Thanks!! |

How do I make a sweet, moist cornbread!? I hadn't thought of soaking the meal. Thanks so much for the tip! |

How do I make a sweet, moist cornbread!? I am hoping y'all can help me with this. I just cannot seem to find a recipe for a sweet moist cornbread. I have tried a number of recipes, including this one last night http://southernfood.about.com/od/corn.... All seem to yield the same results: a bland, somewhat dry cornbread. I thought the creamed corn might be the answer, but it was not. I am not eating meat during Lent, so I had made the cornbread into muffins to eat with soups. Perhaps that contributed to the dryness? Any tips/recipes would be greatly appreciated! |
