Good Spanish Tapas in Baltimore

I really like Tapas Adela. It would be child-friendly if you can score an outdoor table. I think you may find the interior too formal for a child (or, at least, I would be annoyed by a child if I were eating inside TA ;)). The menu isn't huge and I've enjoyed everything (albeit, on the vegetarian side) that I've tried, save their eggplants frites which were way too greasy.

24 hours in Baltimore

I love the sandwiches at Rosina Gourmet in Canton. It's a short walk from the water taxi stop by First Mariner Building on Boston Street. There is also a crab place called Captain James which IS a water taxi stop between Fells Point and Canton.

Recommendations for Saturday Brunch and Dinner in Harbor East

Miss Shirleys in the Harbor is just a short walk and would definitely fit the bill for breakfast.

Really, does a great latte exist in Baltimore?

Try Bonaparte Bakery or Patisserie Poupon. Both are French bakeries and do a really nice latte. Bonaparte is on South Ann Street in Fells Point and Patisserie Poupon is on East Baltimore right near the intersection of President and Bmore.

Bagby's Pizza in Baltimore

We've been to Bagby twice now and enjoyed four pizzas between us. The cheeses are especially nice and I loved the roasted artichoke hearts with the soft goat cheese.

They are BYOB and Bin 604 is right across the street.

Baltimore Pho - Hollins Market area (long)

I didn't see anyone order it (it was late for lunch) and I couldn't think about anything but pho the other day due to the weather. It's on my list to try in the coming weeks. They offer the traditional liver pate, tofu and some other protein.

Baltimore Pho - Hollins Market area (long)

Baltimore Pho has expanded their menu quite a bit recently. They now offer a lunch-sized pho and bun and they ADDED Banh Mi to their menu! Several new appetizers are available as well.

I had the medium vegetarian pho yesterday along with the lightly fried tofu tempura strips (about the size of mozzarella sticks) wrapped in lettuce leaves and top with shredded carrot, chopped cherry tomatoes and a thin peanut sauce.

I don't eat meat, so I can't speak to the authenticity of their pho. What I do like is supporting a city business and not having to drive to the burbs, while still enjoying a very tasty and inexpensive meal.

Amazing Soft pretzel in Baltimore

Woof, no need to be so nasty. It's a totally different experience than Bonaparte, for sure, but they do make homemade pretzels and fresh squeezed lime and lemonade - I agree that thats chowworthy.

Going to The Helmand for first time...any advice?

Wow, pretty much everything there is amazing. The baby pumpkin appetizer, the bowlani and aushak apps (or entrees), the vegetarian aush soup.. Mmm, mmm. I'm making myself hungry. And I don't even eat meat, so I'm sure you'll get a ton more responses on that side of the menu.

Amazing Soft pretzel in Baltimore

It's a free-standing stall essentially that sells (in my opinion) great pretzels and fresh-squeezed lemonade – it is not an Auntie Annes. I've enjoyed going there for years and, fwiw, have never been there late night for drunken munchies. All sober, daytime pretzel eating for me!

It's at the intersection of Broadway and Thames (the cobblestone street) just before the water taxi stand.

Spaghetti pizza

My husband loves the spaghetti pizza from Pasta Mista. They warm it up in the oven and serve it with a really good marinara for dunking. They also reheat well in a home oven.

Pho in Towson!! (maybe?)

I stopped by today while out in Towson and they're opening Monday!

Need a Jack's Bistro-like restaurant

Not in Bmore but have you been to The Rumor Mill in Ellicott City? The chef/owner, Matthew, is a big sous vide fan and does some amazing dishes.

Nice place to chat and hang out in B'more?

I love the Helmand, but it doesn't fit the bill for hang out and chat. They do, as lawhound mentioned, turn the tables quickly, and the noise level is often pretty high. Lots of tables in a small space.

Pho in Towson!! (maybe?)

I LOVE the Columbia location – drive down to it from Baltimore city once or twice a month.

List of Baltimore wants/questions

Mehek closed?!?! Wow, I'm surprised. It was usually quite busy. Huh.

List of Baltimore wants/questions

Mehek in Fells Point does chaat along with a nice Iunchtime buffet. There is a Pakistani/Indian grocery in Waverly (name escapes me) that sells wonderful spices, produce and other sundries. They always have homemade samosas by the cash register as well.

Tater Tots in Bmore

The Golden West ones are great!

Best cup of coffee in Baltimore

I am a big fan of High Grounds – it's a coffee shop and used bookstore on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown. The owner has established a fair trade partnership with some coffee growers in Costa Rica and the coffee is fabulous.

Mekong Delta Cafe- Baltimore

Thanks for all the veggie updates, guys! I will be sure to stipulate the vegetarian (no-chicken, not even a little!) just to be sure next time.

I do hope MD succeeds – a truly nice couple of owners and fresh, delicious food.

lunch near baltimore aquarium?

I really like Blu Bambu (situated between Chipotle and PotBelly) – it's family-owned and has one other location somewhere in MD.

They have several menu options, but I always get the Asian stir-fry bar. They have tons of vegetables – salad-bar style – that you load into a small bowl. Pick your sauce at the end and they'll stirfry it up for you. (You can select a meat when you pay and that gets thrown into the wok as well.)

They recently added brown rice as an option for an additional $1. I adore the woman who manages the cash register. She always remembers me, even if it's been months since the last time I was there.

Mekong Delta Cafe- Baltimore

Hi Balty...

I was told that the vegetarian soup (which they don't call pho, btw) is vegetable stock. The owner explained that the broth wouldn't taste like pho. I'll have to inquire again next time I go since chicken stock is obviously not vegetarian.

Mekong Delta Cafe- Baltimore

I have been twice now for lunch (twice in one week!) The owner waits tables while his wife mans the kitchen in the back. Their two sons scramble through the restaurant from their home above.

The lunch specials (about 10 or so) are all $4.95 and include a glass of iced green tea (too weak for my taste, but the hot tea is nice).

A friend and I split the curried tofu and vegetables and the lemongrass tofu, along with a vegetarian summer roll. The roll is loosely packed and the delightfully fresh ingredients do tend to spill out over the plate. I love the grilled baby corn in the roll.

I returned to try their vegetarian pho – lovely! Each table has bottles of hoisin and Schricha sauces along with the Schricha brand chili/garlic jar.

The service at lunch is slow. I don't think they've quite worked out how to handle the lunchtime rush. But as long as you're prepared to wait, and have a little more than an hour for lunch, it's a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. I can't wait to go back.

DC High Tea (or just tea) for a mom and little girl

I arranged a baby shower / high tea at Mandarin Oriental recently. It was really lovely, although oddly, short on sandwiches. There were however, about two dozen desserts to choose from. Price was ~ $32/person.

New in Harbor East/Fells?

Hi Jeserf,

It is good. It's not my favorite Indian in town, but if I want to stay in the SE, I'm happy to go there. It's WAY better than India Rasoi, in my opinion.

New in Harbor East/Fells?

What about Mehak in Fells Point? It's Indian, pretty casual and a short walk from Harbor East? And, bonus, it's across from the gelato shop you mentioned.

Good Veggie Burgers in Baltimore?

Just had a GREAT two-bean burger (black and cannelini, although there I also spied some chick peas in there) at The Laughing Pint. One of the chef's from Zodiac works there now and the burger does resemble Zodiac's black bean burger.

They have a small menu but many of the items are vegetarian.

Good Veggie Burgers in Baltimore?

Hi elnicka,

I started this same post about a year ago: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/501848

Since then I've also discovered the veggie burgers at Alexander's Tavern and Abbey Burger Bistro. Elevation Burger has a veggie one on the menu but it hasn't opened yet. Ale Mary's does a Boca burger but the fixings/bun are great (they have a lot of other veggie options there as well.)

Mexican Coke

I've seen it for sale at several of the Latino grocery stores in Fells Point (Baltimore) – Smedly's (the coffee shop on Wolfe and Fleet) also sells it.

Need Vegetarian or non-red meat options in Baltimore

I agree – that's extremely annoying and I should have pointed that out. However, they have a lot of other vegetarian options on the menu.
