HELP! Beef Stew Quandary

Everyone was correct the beer was the culprit. I added some brown sugar and that seemed to help things a lot. I served most for a dinner party and gave some to a sick neighbor. Everyone loved it! I didn't serve it until 24 hours after making it and you were then able to taste all of the "layers" of flavor. I will now use only red wine to deglaze. Thanks everyone for your input!

HELP! Beef Stew Quandary

I made a large batch of beef stew because we are having neighbors over for dinner tomorrow and know that it always tastes better the next day. I developed all my flavors one step at a time and deglazed with a sam adams black lager as it tastes similar to guiness. I also used a low sodium beef stock.
I just tasted it before packing up to put in the fridge and it is very BITTER!?
Is there any way I can salvage this tomorrow? I hope so, maybe adding red wine?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

tomatillo sauce advice - its sour!

Did you use cilantro? A bunch in the blender and then added to your sauce should help.

What happened to Chao Chi? Sandy Hook CT

I am so incredibly upset and befuddled. We had an amazing restaurant in Sandy Hook. The food and service were amazing. My neighbors headed over for date night last night and were shocked to see a dark restaurant. This is very hard to understand as they were always packed?
Does anyone know what happened? Such a bummer.

Need to tell a servers to bring change?

I also feel that asking if they would like change is rude. You can kill 2 birds with one stone by grabbing it and saying thank you I will be righ back with your change.

Need to tell a servers to bring change?

I am a server and would NEVER assume that the change is mine, that is a great way to ensure that the customer will not return. Also if the server is in a rushed situation one way to see politely if the customer needs change is to grab that book and say, thank you I will be right back with your change. If the customer does not desire change they will usually say, that is for you.

Labor Day Weekend -what's the plan Stan?

We are having our annual Labor Day party and doing BBQ. Pulled pork sliders, coleslaw, potato salad, and mac and cheese. I will also do hot dogs for the kids and nice cold beers for the grown ups. Hopefully hurricane Earl won't come to the party as well.
Happy Labor Day!!

Has anyone else tried The One Eyed Pig BBQ in Newtown CT?

Trufflehound they have only started serving food in January so you must be thinking of another place (they also do not have an owner named Dan).
It is across from Carminuccios on Rt.25 in Rickys plaza. The thing that we like about this place is that they make evrerything there (even their sauces are homemade and fries are hand cut). It is definitely worth a try.

It has become a favorite for my family. I am curious if anyone else has had the chance to give it a try. They have some of the best ribs I have ever had.

Bistro Basque - Milford, CT review (long)

Thanks for the review! Bistro Basque is definitely me and my husbands favorite restaurant in the area. We feel BB is far and above any restaurant in Ffld county in food quality and value. Unfortunately we don't get there as often as we'd like as we now live in Newtown. We do plan on dining there in a couple of weeks for our 5th anniversary. thanks for making me hungry (I've been dreaming about the lomo). Next time you go back please try the Boudin Noir it is my husbands favorite.

I need Food Media opinions

I am really enjoying the new cooking channel. I also could not get sick of Top Chef (my favorite silver tiger eric ripert is now a regular judge). Anthony Bourdain also is in the midst of a new season of shows. There def is a lot of good food tv these days.

restaurant recs near Sodus Point in Western NY (between Rochester and Syracuse)?

My inlaws live on the water in Ontario, the area is certainly not a culinary mecca. Last summer we dined at The Pultneyville Grill http://www.pultneyvillegrill.com/dinn...
It was pretty good for the kind of food you can get in that area.
I have not dined there but have been told that Hedges is pretty good. http://www.hedgesninemilepoint.com/en...

Special Occasion Restaurant- Martha's Vineyard?

Lambert's Cove has been voted most romantic restaurant on the Vineyard and the food is pretty top notch. My husband and I had dinner at Atria last weekend and were incredibly impressed with the food. I would ask for a table on the outside porch which is a little more romantic than the dining room. I find they have some of the best food on the island. http://www.atriamv.com/

Help in Danbury CT - Meat & Fish

I couldn't disagree more. I live in Newtown and shop at the Caraluzzis here, I find it to be an outstanding store. The meats are high quality and if you use their circular there are always great sales on meat and seafood. If $$$ isn't an issue they also carry high end free range meats and the whole line of dartagnans (sp?) products. Stew Leonards is a really poor quality overpriced place to shop.
