Too much smoked fish

you can make pasta with the lox, we do it often. like, throw it into the creamy vodka sauce, add some peas and let it all simmer for a bit. it's a replication of my favorite pasta dish, forgetting the name...

Too much smoked fish

bagels every day!!!! i'm jealous :) enjoy!

I Had a Great Crabcake today at Veggie Grill

well, guess i'll keep to my original plan and not go there anymore. sigh.

I Had a Great Crabcake today at Veggie Grill

i've been to the veggie grill twice and both times had very disappointing salads. it was a huge bummer. I swore i'd never return. but this crab cake is intriguing me. Is it gluten free? i can't eat fake meat stuff that isn't gluten free, while i can have breads and pastries and stuff like every few days, it hits me hard with the fake meat stuff.

Where to Buy Monkfish in LA

Can I just tag onto this and ask where do you find Mackerel? I'm assuming a Korean Market? It's in all my favorite Korean joints but never at Fish King, or the FMs.

Chipwich - is this available in LA???

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.

Chipwich - is this available in LA???

Hey everyone. Regarding the chipwich, well I was at the Rosebowl over the weekend and we parked so far and by the time we walked halfway there we decided to stop off at an ice cream truck. Turns out that Blue Bunny sells "Chips Galore!" and it looks just like the chipwich! I had just munched on some cheesy popcorn so i didn't go for an ice cream treat. on a side note, since when is blue ices NOT blue raspberry, but bubblegum flavor? gross. lesson learned.

VEGGIE RAMEN? Does a great one exist?

ramen jinya's vegetarian ramen was so bland. it was a huge bummer. besides that, i've only had vegetarian ramen at Mr. Ramen and it was worlds better (it has flavor!) than ramen jinay's version. you can have it miso flavored too.

Ba in Highland Park?

yes, if someone could take one for the team... much appreciated! I walked by there last weekend and was like, oh wow, a new spot! but the prices seemed high so i want to make sure it's worth it before we check it out... :)

Fraiche in Culver City closing?

Nooooooooooooo! I love K-zo.... it's my perfect sushi place on a hot summer day. i haven't been there in maybe 2 years though. always got the sake in a box. bummer.

Love those Blue Crab Hand Rolls! Whose are the best?

Kiriko is excellent but i think the best one i've ever had is at Nishi-Ya.

Latest Urasawa prices?

2 of us before tip was just under $1000. we ordered a $140 bottle of sake as well as 1 beer and some $10 water. oh we went mid april.

I have never, ever, had a bad meal at ____________and I have eaten there over a dozen times!

Cacao Mexicatessen... not one bad bite of food there ever. we've also gotten catering for holiday get togethers and it's always been fantastic.

Melisse on Saturday, Friday night??

Angelini is really great. I also was going to suggest Madeo though it can be kind of a scene but i thought the food there was pretty great the one time i went. the paparazzi in front kind of scared me into going back.

Melisse on Saturday, Friday night??

and amazing sides... this may sound weird but their creamed corn is so amazing.

Weekday Sushi Lunch near Century City

Near Century City- Kiyokawa on Robertson. Just north of Olympic.

Birthday dinner - Torihei, Izakaya Bincho, or ???

not a fan of robata jinya. been there a bunch b/c i work so close by. it's just not amazing. i've given it a bunch of tries, just seems like it could be better.
this may be not a suggestion you're looking for, but for Honda Ya is awesome on a birthday! They play this crazy birthday song whenever it's someones birthday. it's one of the highlights of going! i always say i want to go on my birthday yet i never seem to make it there.

Loud and louder restos: Maybe I'm getting old, but...

Barbrix is SUPER LOUD. the noise just bounces off the walls...

Mexican salsa?

oh no, re: cacao. we used to get their salsas once a week but now have been getting the ones i like from whole foods. the last red salsa i got from cacao turned bad and i think maybe we'd had it a week so maybe that's normal. haven't been there in a month so i really hope things haven't changed too much.

Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?

that's funny. yeah, i don't go there anymore...

Mexican salsa?

Seongbukdong – Korean Braised Beef (Kalbi Jjim) and Mackerel Specialist in Koreatown

wanted to comment that i finally went there today for lunch and ordered the braised mackerel... i guess b/c i usually get grilled and i wanted to try something different. i liked it! my only complaint was that there were SO MANY bones... ugh. but overall i thought it was good and i'm glad i tried it. and i do agree, did not live up to the hype. the banchan was good, but not great. my friend found her soup to be bland. i tasted it and it was very bland.

Mexican salsa?

i've gotten them at the whole foods at 3rd & fairfax and the one in glendale. it's seriously my favorite. if anyone goes out and tries it please let me know if i'm crazy by thinking it's as awesome as i do!!

Mexican salsa?

i buy take out salsa from cacao in eagle rock. it's really really good. but lately, to be honest, i've been buying this local brand from whole foods called tacupeto- they even have a photo on the site of the salsa on the chip and it makes me want some now!
http://www.tacupetochipsandsalsa.com/

edited to mention that their chips are also fantastic.

Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?

i've mentioned this before and got ____ for it, but i had a really good taco salad once from casita del campo. it was a couple of years ago and it was really good. just sayin'!

Lox in Pasadena?

interesting. blue hill bay is at whole foods too. i will look for this smoked whitefish salad next time i'm there.

Lox in Pasadena?

love those bagels... i would do those bagels and for lox go to fish king. they have two different types of lox. it's in the fish cases, not pre-wrapped. and it's awesome.

Angeli Pop-Up at The Charleston

I wonder if she'll serve her amazing bread?

Visiting from NYC - what's the "best" of the things that aren't great here?

and be prepared for eating SPICY. sometimes i order items from the menu and it's fine and not too spicy or a little spicy ... but one time i ordered something so spicy on accident and i regretted it later. so as long as you communicate about your spice level, you should be fine. the one time i got something crazy spicy it was a to go order and i didn't specify anything.

Visiting from NYC - what's the "best" of the things that aren't great here?
