thanks for your response. It did recently clear up, but I'll hold on to your method in case it continues.

High Fiber and/or High Protein Dessert??

these are great. Do you have a favorite recipe for a chocolate nut cake? Do you use solely nut flour or also add white flour?

I posted in Home Cooking and have 2 responses, but when I go to check them, it's blank. Can you help? thanks

High Fiber and/or High Protein Dessert??

Looking for a dessert for kids on a special high fiber and protein diet. It does not have to be sugar free or have any specific limitations. Any ideas?

cake for christening party

Congrats on the new babe Blaze!

Although not talked about much, I happen to like L'Anjou Patisserie which is located behind Boston Market on rte 117. He makes an excellent product, but service is VERY slow. You may want to try a few items there first. Many people like The Pastry Corner but haven't been in awhile.

I haven't had a cake from Lexington, but I find the restaurant to be inconsistent.

Harvest Supper--New Canaan

Thanks Chocolatezealot for your review!

I was there last night for dinner and had a similar experience. Overall, enjoyed the meal enough to return to try other items, but it still needs some work. The Wild Mushroom Veloute with arancini was brilliant. The lobster and fingerling crepes were tasty, but needed a contrasting texture to the already soft crepe, potato and lobster. The shor ribs were very good and the polenta was the best I've tasted. The veal canneloni, very nice, but a touch salty. We were not a huge fan the composed desserts. Did not love the chocolate torte, found it a bit dry. The bread pudding would have been better served warm.

The chairs need cushions desperately. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and my buns were painin'! The service was lovely and agreably slow. They did however find a half bottle of wine that someone left there and poured it for us. Grace Lamb is an adorable host and I think overall, the restaurant has great potential.

Harvest Supper--New Canaan

Anyone hear of this new restaurant? I'm going Friday night to meet some friends and I hear the owners are Manhattan restauranteurs. Curious.

I like Sushi but my friends don't - Westchester

I have 2 suggestions. Fujinoya in Hartsdale is a Japanese restaurant that serves cooked food as well as sushi and although is small, is very good quality.

A fun trendy restaurant is Tengda in Katonah. They have an extensive pan-asian menu and a great lively environment. If you go, try the honey wasabi tuna (sushi)appetizer. It's one of my faves.

Huge Muffin Tops

Thanks for the idea. I have them those. I want to make the full muffin, just with a high, dense crunchy top.

Huge Muffin Tops

I do fill the cups up close to the top and they do rise, but I'm not impressed yet. The big crusty tops seen in some bakeries are much more impressive.

Cafe of Love...Finally, great food hits Mount Kisco!!!

Just an update, they are now open for lunch.

Walked by today at 1:45 and the joint was bustling!

Huge Muffin Tops

I make pretty good muffins. My kids love them for breakfast. However, I have yet to find a recipe that yields high-rise muffin tops. Does anybody know of a trick or have a great recipe they can send this way?

Thanks!

Cafe of Love

I reviewed it a few weeks ago. Here is the link:

Cafe of Love...Finally, great food hits Mount Kisco!!!

They are dinner only for the 1st month and when they are a little settled, they will offer lunch.

Leftover chocolate chip cookies (slightly overbaked)

Kind of like the chocolate wafer icebox cake. sounds great. How long do yo think it would need to set?

Emme, thanks for all the ideas, I have the cookies in the freezer but will likely try your trifle idea. I'm a sucker for trifle!

Totally killer slow-roasted pork shoulder

Oh yes! Lately, pork shoulder has been my go to meal that my whole family will eat and it is so simple. Thanks for sharing your method, love trying new ways of preparing.

Cafe of Love...Finally, great food hits Mount Kisco!!!

There is a huge range of prices for entrees. Several entrees (salads, pasta, roast chicken...) were b/w $18-$23 (about) and the highest was $39 for a duo of beef (short rib and filet) which although pricy, will be the next item I will try. I think it can fit most dining budgets.

Cafe of Love...Finally, great food hits Mount Kisco!!!

Leslie from Ladle of Love opened her first restaurant around the corner. She considers the restaurant "Fine Eating". We decided to go last night for a late dinner. The decor is warm, inviting and beautifully decorated. New American cuisine that exceeded our expectations. First, instead of having bread brought to the table, there is a bread buffet. Wonderful fresh varieties of what seemed to be Balthazar bread was displayed with cheeses, white bean puree and olives to indulge in.

We ordered raclette to begin (which we almost never see on local menus) and the cheese was to die for! I had duck (confit and breast) served with tender braised cabbage and silky smooth parsnip puree. It was a wonderful entree. My husband has a NY sirloin with a trio of dipping sauces (chimichurri, horseradish, and I forget the 3rd). The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. A huge hit. Oh, and before the entrees, the chef presented us with a taste of black truffle salsify soup topped with a bit of fois gras. Oh my G.seriously!

The service was attentive and happy to take special requests. Considering Cafe of Love has been open for 1 WEEK, we were ridiculously impressed and can't wait to return! Go before the word gets out and booking a month in advance.

I really don't want to throw out the batch, but I baked them 2 minutes too long and now they're crunchy, not soft.

Any suggestions?

Thai Angels in Mt. Kisco - worth the drive?

I know it's too late to help, but my choice for a Saturday night dinner would have been Tengda. Overall, the ambiance and energy of the restaurant would have been my pick. We prefer Thai Angels for take out or casual lunch. The food is good at both, but overall, I like Tengda better.

Where did you end up?

Chinese take out in mount kisco area?

I'm sorry to say that chinese food in the Mount Kisco area is severely lacking. We don't order at all anymore since Pacific closed about a year ago. However, Thai Angels delivers and has a few chinese influenced dishes. One of the owners is Cantonese. It is our "go to" take out/delivery place currently.

Horchata...

Horchata is a rice based sweetened beverage flavored with cinnamon. I haven't seen it in any local restaurants but it is sold in latin markets and some grocery stores. You can buy it as a powder or in concentrated form.

I think the last time I had it was at a restaurant near Columbia Presbyterian hospital called El Presidente (great place by the way...).

If you find it served in Westchester, please do tell!

Brio in Mount Kisco

I haven't been yet, but met the owner. He was great and wanted to have something upscale for wine enthusiasts. However, he wasn't serving mixed drinks, only wine, so I heard he's changing his concept a bit.

Has anyone else been?

looking for restaurant in katonah- mt kisco-bedford area

I live in Mt Kisco now and a lot has changed. John's Best is now Brio (high end, mediocre mediteranian food, owned by the Son of John's). The Blue Dolphin is diner by day and Italian food by night. The Bedford Diner is a depressive hole and Mt. Kisco diner had a nice face lift (and I think better food).

John's had pretty good pizza. They moved to Westport. I haven't found any great pizza around here. Have to go to Stamford for that.

Blue Dolphin is a diner in the morning and italian for dinner. You can meet both your cravings there in one day.

Blazer's has not reopened. I understand it will be about another month.

Dinner with Friends (Upper Westchester)

My favorite Northern Westchester restaurants are:

121 Restaurant in North Salem: Contemporary American in a loud, fun and cosy atmosphere, but no reservations for less than 6 people, so there is often a wait.

The Heights Bistro in Yorktown Heights: Also contemporary cuisine made extremely well. Not nrearly as loud as 121. They accept reservations. We loved all the food we have tried there.

Le Jardin du Roi in Chappaqua: Good french bistro.

And there is always Stone Barns...if you can get in.

2 nights, 2 dinners Fort Lauderdale

Thanks for the feedback. Sunfish was rated a 28 for food by Zagat, so it's interesting to hear that it might not be the best choice. We will definately go to Johnny V's. Canyon was tops on my list too.

The Flying Pig on Lexington

This was just a topic of discussion with a friend of mine. The station is open only from 5:30-10:00am for commuters to grab coffee and muffins. They used to hold private parties there but that ended 4 months ago. All catering is now at the restaurant on Lexington. Their website (with menus) is:

www.flyingpigonlexington.com

I ate at the old location and enjoyed it. Have not tried the new location because I heard they had raised the priced a lot. I just looked online and the prices look reasonable. All entrees are in the $20's. So, either they recently lowered their prices or maybe they ordered specials that were outrageous. Not sure.
