Chunking spicy chicken was very spicy with good mala.
La Grenouille or Bouley for a 50th Birthday?
My partner has asked for a warmly lit place with a booth or corner table , so I am thinking one of these might be a good choice. Having not been to either of these, which would be a better choice? I am also open to any other suggestions . Looking to spend approx. $350 for 2.
South China Garden (formerly Cantoon Garden) – Still the Best Restaurant in Chinatown
Was at SCG for New Years eve. Ordered the Squid dish which was exemplary. Also had the twin lobsters in XO sauce, Peking Pork Chops, Fried chicken w/ garlic sauce and eggplant with minced garlic. Everything was delicious as usual.

Corton
I agree, although I did not do the tasting menu when I went last April, I thoroughly enjoyed what we I ate and thought it was some of the most creative meals I have had.
Corton or Brooklyn Fare for Birthday dinner
First of all I want to thank you all who contributed to this thread. Dinner was at Corton. We went with the 3 course instead of the chefs tasting which I would definitely like to go back and try. I Started out with "From the Garden" as my appetizer. I knew this was a signature dish so I had to try it. It was a beautiful plate of food to look at. Probably one of the nicest ever presented to me. I never take pictures of my food, but I would of definitely liked to of captured this one on film. Fortunately the taste equaled the visuals. Such intense flavors are extracted from the different vegetables and herbs. For my entree I had the Black Bass. Fish was cooked perfectly and again such intense flavors in the accommpaning sauces. Portions might not be considered large but because the flavors are strong you end up being satiated. In addition you are presented with alot of little extras before and after. Dessert was the smoked caramel and popcorn. Again like everything else that proceeded it was wonderfully executed and full of great flavor. Service was professional and friendly. A very nice evening that is on par with dinners I have had at Jean Georges, Eleven Madison, and Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Highly recommend Corton.
As a side note there were a few people that commented on that fact that we were holding two reservations. Unbeknownst to me only a reseravation was being held at Corton. I had given my partner the two choices, but he had decided that Corton would be the better fit for my Birthday.

Corton or Brooklyn Fare for Birthday dinner
Thank you all for your responses. This is actually a dinner for 2 in April for my partner and I. He was able to make a reseravtion for both places and I was wondering which would be a better all around experience with the food being the most important factor. I do understand that both places are quite different in their settings, so I was just seeking opinions from hounds that have eaten at either place or both. Thanks again.
Corton or Brooklyn Fare for Birthday dinner
Deciding between these two for a birthday dinner. For those who have dined at both, is there a preference you have over the other?

2010 is a Great Year for Peaches at the Union Square Farmers Market
I am not sure why they would have different prices for the greenmarkets, but they were $5.00 at Union Square.

Not to mention that Tehune charges $5.00 a lb. The most expensive I believe at the greenmarket.
Fresh Lobster meat at $80 pound!
So I decided to make Lobster Rolls for my partners birthday yesterday and ended up purchasing lobster meat out of the shell at Citarella for $80.00 a pound. I thought this was very expensive but not knowing where else to go I ended up buying a 1/2 pound and made some delicious lobster rolls. For the future when I decide to make lobster rolls again, is there another place I could purchase fresh lobster meat for less.
Dinner before classical theater of harlem

Early reports on Hundred Acres?
I had a very nice soft shell crab sandwich a few weeks ago. 2 crispy soft shell crabs with a delicious tartar sauce, vinegar based coleslaw and shoestring fries that were way too salty.

A few months ago I had the pappardelle with beef cheeks and asparagus. It was sublime.
Best Onion Soup?
Blue Ribbon Bakery makes what I think is an excellent version and can be meal all by itself.
WD-50 Review (long)
I was not so much concerned about the germs as I was about having to pass a glass back and forth. I do like the idea of getting half bottles, which was what I did the last time I did a tasting menu at Jean Georges. While my partner did the wine pairing, I was very happy by starting with a cocktail, then moving onto a wonderful half bottle of white and then ending with a very full and rich glass of red for my last tasting which was beef. I felt I was able to concentrate on the flavors presented on each plate without having the introduction of a new glass of wine each time.
WD-50 Review (long)
cimui,
when you say share the wine pairings do you mean splitting a glass between two people or would the restaurant divide the wine between two glasses. I am going next month and I actually feel that wine pairings are also too much, but I would not want to share one glass throughout the night.
Employess Only or Pegu Club for a birthday cocktail?
Thank you all for you replies. Since it is in my neighborhood, and my boyfriend requested a place to get a good martini Pegu Club it is. Hopefully it won't bt too much of a scene on a Thursday night.
