Yes! I was addicted to those curly lentil chips for a whole summer a few years ago... LOL!

Well, I actually did work in the food industry (food supply side) and know that great ingredients make even the most 'base' foods amazing. So if it is for a special occasion,,, why not. So for the Super Bowl I made a bacon/blue cheese dip using my absolute FAVORITE blue, Great Hill Blue, a raw, super creamy, complex blue cheese that was pricy... but so worth it!

Bacon Milkshake

I think so... they are playing off the cache of In-n-Out...

Soba-Ya in Torrance

We had the Duck Soba at the Atwater Crossings Pop-Up and it was DEVINE! Much better than than their Breadbar Pop-Up a couple of years ago, so they really are getting the consistancy right! :)

Best!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

My favorite recent CCC was at Schat Bakery in El Segundo... Just perfection, not a gourmet mes...

Where should I become acquainted with cheese and charcuterie?

Cube on La Brea... Wonderful cheese selection and experienced staff and they write downt he cheese name on the slate board for you (Take a picture so you remember what you love) and then sell it to you to take home at a market price! :)

Placentia area dinner, Bruery-adjacent?

Recently we did a mini beer crawl...

Start at Bootleggers in Fullerton

Lunch at Kentro Greek in Old Town Fullerton (Another option is Burger Parlor)

Then Bruery...

Best!

Birthday party (dol) in Koreatown

Good for you! My favorite recent Dol was in a Cuban Nightclub (Mexi-rean twins... LOL!)

LAX-C papaya salad FTW. What else is good there?

New dessert store!!! As if I needed an excuse to go down there and buy another gianormous bag of rice noodles... ;)

Mexicali Taco & Co. is back!

THRILLED at this news! I can't wait to see what the guys cook up with a little more breathing room! :) I'll miss the great city view tho'!

I wasn't too sold on the ones from Holland, but I really liked the Kumatos, the brown ones...

Dine LA Jan/Feb 2012 Reviews

Craft always has some of the best DLA menus... it's a deal if you go with 3+ more persons too! More to try! Guaranteed leftovers! :D

Sapp's Coffee Shoppe, on sunset.

I love Pa-Ord, but Sapp is still the king for boat noodles. Pa-Ord has the spicing right... missing some of the funk...

800 degrees crust

Another thing that may factor in is the toppings. This type of pizza is best when less toppings are used. It's kinda like counter. some people go all crazy with the toppings (not saying you guys did... but I've seen it!) and then get upset that its a muddled mess. Sometimes you HAVE to show restraint

need some more Thai Town ideas- getting bored of the usual!

Glad you liked it! They have a WONDERFUL Pad See Yew and their Duck Noodles is one of my favorite soups in the city! Plus the ladies there are so nice! :)

Ramen Yamada-ya coming to Culver City in May

Yeah, the thing about the cheese that is used for onion soup is that it melts wonderfully. Parm just kinda floats and becomes gritty... I can see how this is popular, it's a complete unami bomb, but not the reason why I got for ramen.

The wonderful "Le Saint Amour" in Culver City reportedly (hopefully just temporarily!) closed

Thank you so much for letting us know! I've often sent CW there for clients that absolutely will not travel to Venice with us. Such a wonderful space for a formal, but yet casual feeling client lunch...

I used the for a work breakfast and people thought they were handmade! The secret is you HAVE to bake them... nice and crisp...

For toppings, I LOVE the TJs jarred apple pie filling. Also if just with whipped cream, a few twists of their coffee/chocolate spice grinder is excellent!

You are smart about that... I tried it and although it looks LOVELY (they have a special shaver that just mounds it all on top of the bowl like fluffy show, it was very one note and incredibly salty...

Wonderful!! I'll be sure to pick some up as I like a nice strong taste to use with my greens... :)

Steaks from Lindy & Grundy

I will say, that McCall's dry ages stuff is trimed. I've seen these steaks at Lindy and Grundy and have also scoffed at how they looked. But I still love them for other items like their sausages, lamb and chicken...

preserved lemon

Sqirl's preserves and preserved lemons are also available at Broom Street General Store in SIlverlake... much better hours and fried chicken on Fridays...

Where to get good breakfast AND good coffee

My. Favorite for when the coffee (espresso) really matters is Proof... Their quiche is AMAZING & the Cognoscenti Espresso pulls are weep worthy...

But the vibe is very casual & the quiche sells out quick, so get there before 10a...

It would make a KILLER frosting as well! :) Look up Peanut Butter Frosting and then Sub the Speculoos...

What should I have on Angeli's last night?

Early is good! The kitchen is less hurried and things tend to back up around 6:30pm in my experience these past weeks with take out orders and such...

On our recent visits, we stuck with the classics. Gnocchi, Vegetables (the Brocolli is better than the potatoes) and Pizza Special (Great sausage!). The Chicken coming out also out looked outstanding!

Angeli Caffe closing!

You know, I had been to Angeli over the past year, but for Street Food Mondays and it still didn't hit me until the first dinner service after they annouced the closing. The vibe, the stories, the wistfulness. For so many of us who have lived in L.A. for all or a good chunk of our lives now, Angeli held a memory. A proposal, Dinner with Dad, first taste of burrata. For me, it was one of my first major client dinners. He told me the ONE place he wanted to come. Angeli. Many, many Angelinos of all generations have these stories and when the news spread, it was truly a homecoming in a city that is constantly churning there are sadly few place that ever have that sense of history.

Evan though her show and her appearances around town, was always there. We didn't NEED to go Angeli to feel her presence, the fact is the L.A. food scene would not be the same if it wasn't for her championing local produce, ethnic cuisine, higher standards in everything we pass through our lips.

I was saddened to hear of the closing, mostly because Angeli was such a special space and Evan still cared deeply about the restaurant and her patrons. But I look forward to see what will come from her newfound freedom...

Japanese Food and Sake Festival 2012

I totally agree with this post... we went the first three years and it was an amazing event the first two. Great fresh food, neat exhibits and the freebies were impressive! But it suffered the same fate as the Tofu festival. The crowd got bigger and the quality suffered. Gone was the afternoon where I ate several times my $60 worth of Uni. Then came the long lines for a tiny wedge of okonomiyaki...

Still, I certainly hope that since taking a few years off, they pull of a great event!

Best!

I LOVE the rice medley... it's a lunch time stape and actually heats up nice and fuffy! :)

Where's the good posole? And when?

Thanks for reminding me... The last canned I use was teasdale... they have a wonderful purple hominy (I got it at Top Valu) that was quite less mushy than the standard white. I use it in Chili all the time.
