Lunch at Chestnut Hill Hotel

This was my second lunch there with my father. Last time we sat outside on a beautiful Spring day. This time it was too hot so we sat in a booth in the bar. My second visit confirms that this place has consistently good food & service. We all had the spicy crab soup to start. I had the beef brisket sandwich, my dad had the crab cake sandwich & fresh fruit. Both were excellent. With beer & cocktail was about $25/person. Last time I had a burger that was actually cooked to order.

Do you drink Wawa coffee?

Here in Upper Bucks, the DD are very inconsistent. I just can't trust then any more. Wawa & McD's had good coffee that is always good. It never wavers. Starbucks is just not worth the price. The other advantage Wawa has for me are large parking slots for trucks that a std school bus fits into nicely.

Old Bethlehem Road Hotel (OBR): Promising!

I'm assuming this is on the North side of Lake Noxamixon? I drive past the Lake House on the South side quite often and there doesn't seem to be much activity there. It also looks like they stopped working on the Elephant House Hotel at Elephant & Ridge Rds.

What's the price range of the OBR? We have our 27th wedding aniv coming up on the 27th and would like a nice quite place to get away for the evening. BTW, we live 15 minutes from there.

Aman's in East Norriton.

The advantage of Tiffin is it's a half mile from my parents house. And we will be spending a lot of time there (at my parents) in the near future. I like to have something other than ordering out pizza.

Aman's in East Norriton.

The two at Assi are acceptable, Aman's was must better. I feel dumb thou, I never realized Hot Breads was Indian. Duhoo!

My spies told me my wife a daughter went to a new Indian place in West Mt Airy while visiting my folks. I'll have to get a report from them.

Best Sushi in the Philly Burbs

Tai Show in Quakertown. We've never had a bad meal there.

Aman's in East Norriton.

My daughter wanted Indian for her 24 birthday, so we trekked over to Aman's. We went to the lunch buffet a few years ago and were impressed. The food was very good. We split an appetizer of veg Samosas, Pakora, Bhaji and Tikki. Should'a ordered two as there was a fight brewing over the Samosas. For entree's we had a hot Chicken Vindaloo, Lamb Saag, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chicken Biryani and keep the Naan coming. And of course, Mango Lassis all around. The Masala and the Vindaloo were both as good as we get from our friends mother. The Lamb Saag and the Chicken Biryani were both new dishes to me, and now a challenge for me to copy. Warning: the Saag will have an odd but not detrimental effect on your bowels. Saag is greens cooked down with Coriander and other herbs. For deserts we passed around bowls of Kufi (Indian style ice cream), Gulab Jamun, and Kheer, and coffee.

Aman's is BYOB, and diner for the four of us was $100 incl tip.

What I'm comparing the food to is what our friend's mother makes. They are Indian by way of Tanzania. Before he got married last summer, his mother would cook food to take to work so he wouldn't get hungry. She always packed enough to feed an army, so my wife got to take home the leftovers. It is a treat to see her come in with that bag of goodies.

Anyway, Aman's get's high marks, albeit a little on the pricey side but well worth it.

Looking for GOOD Thai, in Bucks Co. area

Where exactly is it in Telford. There used to be a Vietnamese place on 113 near the train station.

Also, there is a nice Thai-French restaurant in Lansdale across from the train station there. The French influence probably renders it un-authentic, but is was very good food.

Buying Fresh Seafood in Montco

Their salmon is great. They have sushi grade tuna, monk fish, it's all good. Never been disappointed in their fish.

Asian markets aside from Assi.

I've got to sub on school bus run tomorrow that sends me out to the Wissakicon School District. Last time I did this run there was an Asian market just south off Rt 202 on Township Line Rd. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to sneak in for a look.

Anybody know what I'm talking about, and is it worth leaving early to stop in?

BTW, if I have any money left, I'll be at Assi on Sat.

Heritage Turkey Near Bucks County

I hope you've called ahead for your turkey. I do believe they sell out every year. The place is a mad house the Wed before Thanksgiving, they have fire-police directing traffic in and out. I've cooked maybe three turkeys in my life, and haven't had one of theirs yet. But a lot of people swear by them.

Montco or Bucks Local Ice Cream

I used to be the bus driver for a group senior ladies that went out to lunch every Saturday. We would go at least twice a year. They were very sad to see it go.

We also lost the Ice Cream Factory in Coopersburg. It's a bank now.

Vacuum sealer

I got a Seal-a-Meal for my birthday last year and I've had good success with it. I've found that you need to wipe down the seals with a damp paper towel before each use. I've used the Foodsaver bags from Costco, and I still have a roll left. I've also used the quart bags I got from Target. My main use is to store bult meat and other stuff I get from Costco. I've had steaks come out of the freeser 4 months later looking and tasting like I just bought them.

Raw asparagus safe?

We used to have a small asparagus patch in the garden. It was deemed a failure after a number of years. We'd send to kids out to pick some for dinner, and it would never make it into the house.;-) The kids have grown up fine and healthy. Raw veggies are fine. Unless you are from the South, then you have to way over cook them.

Valley Forge/Collegeville Breakfast/brunch?

Collegeville Inn has been closed for a couple of years now. They couldn't even auction off the property ( parking lot is on a flood plain).

How about Gypsie Rose. Up 29 to 113, right turn, just over the creek.
