New Indian restaurant "Baingan" coming to Shelton, Ct
I finally made it here this past friday night about 8pm. I had butter chicken and my dining companion had chicken tiki masala. I have to say the food went down very easily and was very good. I will definitely be going back as I go past here on the way home from work every day. It's nice to finally have an indian restaurant in the valley.

I've had some hits and misses there myself. I bought the chocolates this past xmas and I guess I am not a fancy chocolate person. In my book they were ok but I wouldn't rush back and by them again. I thought they were too expensive for my taste. Give me lindt or something more basic and I am ok. I paid about 40 or so for the box and it wasn't my cuppa tea! I have also had a vanilla pastry that I wasn't impressed with. I thought it was tasteless.

I think Jason Hawkins review of Carole Pecks Good News Cafe this morning on NBC30CT news was just a bit over the top for me. I want to like Carole Pecks but the times I have been there it doesn't do it for me. I respect her for being one of the first buying local foods.He reviewed that coconut cake and really liked it but I have had it and it's been dry along with her version of the Yankee Doodle cupcake. Am I the only one that feels like this? How much faith can you place in a TV restaurant reviewer? I know he is not going to say that he doesn't like the place but what if you are a tv reviewer and you bite into something and it's awful? What do you do? There are some restaurants that he has been too and I would like to try but after seeing this review, I'm not sure I want to go to any.

After all these years I just realized these aren't even white chocolate at all. I don't know what made me look at the ingredients but I happen to be baking with them right now and didn't see anything to do with chocolate in the ingredient list. The only mention of chocolate is under the ghirardelli name on the front of the package. I feel deceived! I guess I will have to look for white chocolate bars from now on and break them up.

so instead of whipping the cream at the end and folding it into the custard should I just add the extra cream and then do the ice cream thing?

How is Wright's Chicken Farm?
If you are near there are driving home from RI to CT I would stop but it's not worth driving from CT esp. Stratford to get there. Expect to wait also, the place is huge. Some people brought decks of cards and games and played them until they were called. The place is HUGE the dining room decor wasn't anything to write home about. We may stop again if we go antiquing out that way.

Speaking of Sturbridge has anyone done this dinner in Old Sturbridge Village?
We finally got to Dinner in a country tavern last night. You start off at the admission center and then walk through the village to the parsonage. It really was beautiful with the snow on the ground and no one besides us in the village. Inside the parsonage the only light we have is candle light for the entire evening. I didn't realize that we get to cook the whole meal. We all went into groups and everyone had their assignment as to what to make. I was at the pastry station and helped make the apple pies and dinner rolls. The meal was cooked/baked on an open hearth and in the beehive even on the hearth. Anyway, the evening went by just wonderfully. We had such a good time. The meal was absolutely delicious for 1830. I did not detect any sysco "invinotheresverde". Our meal was prepared from fresh meats and vegetables and we made everything from scratch except for one small item. I highly recommend this dinner. You also get a history lesson while the cooking is going on and the helpers are dresssed in period clothing. The meals change from year to year. I would definitely want to go back in the future. The entire event takes place over 5 hours in the fall and winter.
