5 Guys Burgers and Fries: Still don't see what the big deal is?

If you read my post carefully you would see the price point comparison was with Holy Chuck...
And maybe if I paid $8 for a 5 guys combo I might enjoy it more than a BK whooper....

Chow tip lives on (Mr Jerk - Peanut Plaza)

Their Jerk Pork is the best I've had and everything else pales in comparison...i avoid lunchtime as the queue goes out the door...

The other day this guy ahead of me was picking a party order...he was getting $100 worth of Jerk Pork for his son's birthday and he was telling me that this is the best he's had...he had just returned from a trip to Jamaica and he vouches for the fact that Mr Jerks is way better...

My order is the Jerk Pork/Oxtail combo dinner...

The curry goat is average and jerk chicken is on the drier side and not as flavourful as the pork...

5 Guys Burgers and Fries: Still don't see what the big deal is?

ThoughtForFood...thanks for the selective reading and completely ignoring everything else said before that..

I'm assuming you have had a 5 Guy's burger and probably like it...good for you..
I still can't justify the pricepoint against what I'm getting...

5 Guys Burgers and Fries: Still don't see what the big deal is?

So I went again to 5 Guys after a gap of 2 years... a friend wanted to meet up and kept insisting on trying 5 Guys... so I did not fight it...

My first time was at the Warden/Eglinton one... My observation at that time was overpriced and underwhelmed by the taste...

So went today to the Don Mills/York Mills one... ordered the exact same thing... Regular burger(comes with two patty)/Little Fries/Drink combo... came to a little under $15... my friend ordered the same... I asked for tomato, grilled onions and mushrooms as toppings...

I prepared myself to try it this time without any expectations....first bite underwhelmed again... no salt at all ..you can taste its beef but flavourless as far as I was concerned... the bun was meh..fries were limp... My friend felt the same way too...

For $15 I'm expecting a better meal... so for now Holy Chucks "Depressed Cow" remains my favorite... and if I'm not feeling extravagant, BK's whooper will satisfy me more that a 5 Guys burger...

Anyone tried the KFC at Galleria?

"always go to the cash with the ajumma for speed while all the Korean dudes scope out which cashier is the most attractive and line up there"...

hahhaaaa..that was funny

tempted to go over today and try the KFC and pick up some kimchi as well..

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

I should be good for Oct 9th....

good indian food in Scarbourogh

They always had a sit down area and recently they have renovated it to make it look decent...though takeout would be their main chunk of business...
Though to be honest I only do takeout from there...I normally call them in advance and have them keep it ready...otherwise it can be quiet a wait..

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

KitchenVoodoo...4th Oct evening won't work for me...for that matter evenings on weekends for the next couple of months won't work for me(got some prior commitments)..

I'm ok with with any weekdays evening or weekend lunch...sorry if its an inconvenience..if thats the only time and day you guys can do then go ahead...

good indian food in Scarbourogh

Good and spicy south indian food...but very different from the indian/pakistani cuisine the OP is looking for...

good indian food in Scarbourogh

Oh thats news....haven't been to Safa in a while...

Honestly all the Indian/Pakistani places are just average at best...not a single place does everything good..For biryani we go to Silver Spoon (Warden and Ellesemere one)...for curries we go to Pak Centre (Midland and Lawrence) and for Bihari Kebab our choice is Patna Kebab House...

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

oh that sucks...but I'm still game for the meet up....

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

KitchenVoodoo, foodyDudey...I'm up for it...
though I completely agree I'm not a big fan of restaurant vindaloo...most are tomato paste based which I do not find genuine...but I'm more than game for a meet up there...

The In and The Out Burger in the Toronto

Lol...I know you guys do....

I was just using it as a measuring gauge in case people started getting excited that Toronto would be getting an In-N-Out anytime soon...

Sika Deer in Scarborough - my new Shanghainese fav in GTA

Was craving pork bone soup so went to Owl in the plaza...Construction work is over and full parking lot is back in business just in case if anyone was wondering...

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

Lol...ok...I spent a lot of time in India recently..Kolkata,Delhi,Shillong and Bangalore to be specific..so I kind of know the difference...
I do use cider vinegar if I have it in hand...
Cheers...

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

Yes I've had vindaloo made by goan families and as well as by anglo indian household..the goan version was definitely way high on the Scoville scale...
Thanks for the links...my recipe is pretty similar to Sharmila's one...my extra addition to that is fresh ground coriander seeds and regular vinegar instead of palm vinegar...Cheers

The In and The Out Burger in the Toronto

It is a genuine event...
Wonder why they are promoting it here?...even NY does not have a location because the company really wants to keep control of the quality and service ...so I think it will be a while before we have one here...

I've had it a couple of times in the States...its always packed ....and it has a "secret menu"as well....Personally I found it its a good burger and priced well but not something to line up for...

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

foodyDudey...I agree...Pork Vindaloo is the original...I make mine with pork belly and second choice of meat is duck.....

While I make it whenever I'm craving for it,I always love to taste someone else's take on it...pretty much everyone seem to cook it a bit differently...

Sher-e-Punjab on Danforth - anyone?

Pork Vindaloo?...this really perked my interest...though I highly doubt if they would still have it in the menu considering the demographics in the area has changed considerably in recent times...

Edit: Just checked their online menu...Only Beef Vindaloo....

Chowfind: An authentic tasting 'Instant' Singapore Laksa Noodle La Mien good enough for Chowhounders!

Great idea with the snow peas....

Also I always add a hard boiled egg and once I even added some raw ong choi/water spinach as a topping...

Chowfind: An authentic tasting 'Instant' Singapore Laksa Noodle La Mien good enough for Chowhounders!

Good point foodyDudey....personally I've never tried them plain, because of its price point I treat it with more care...I always add the works (fish balls, bean sprouts and shrimp)...Its more of a proper meal rather than just a quick cook "ramen" meal to me...

Johnny's: Single Burger, Double Yuck

Lol...I went completey sober at 11 am..only had my morning coffee and no breakfast...and the result was more than disappointing...

Johnny's: Single Burger, Double Yuck

Resurrecting an old thread...been passing by Johnny's over a year and finally decided to see what the hype was all about...had been warned it was more a nostalgia thing than great tasting burgers...

Went there early around 11 as I had seen the place getting real busy around noon...went for the hamburger...inspite of being warned that these are frozen patties, its a huge put off to see the cook take one out of these industrial kind no name boxes right in front of your face...

So I went with the ketchup, raw and cooked onions toppings...and I'm not exagerrating I threw mine away after three bites (I hate wasting food)....the patty had that "rubbery" texture ,flavorless...i think the cooked onions was the only saving grace...

I know its cheap but then I would rather pay an extra dollar and get a BK whopper (I know a lot of you will kill me for this)..Inspite of all the warnings for lower expectations I was still underwhelmed...I'm not gonna be returning anytime soon...

Tree Top African Cafe - Opening!

I think west of Dundas and Spadina

Sika Deer in Scarborough - my new Shanghainese fav in GTA

Blitz...lol..I was actually referring to jennjen18's post regarding "signage to indicate when this parking nightmare would end"

Sika Deer in Scarborough - my new Shanghainese fav in GTA

I tried looking for a signage a couple of times that I was there in the plaza but could not find any unfortunately..

Where to source Banh Mi Buns in Toronto?

Thats what i do...if I have leftovers ....after a couple of days I toast it in the oven and it tastes as good...

Dragon Centre Mall Midland Sheppard Area Take Out

Jar....thanks for the detailed info on Noodle Delight...might just pop in one of these days...

Since you mentioned Metro Square,I'm assuming you ordered from Lucky Curry house (the store on your extreme right if you're facing the food court)....was there on Monday,I always get the Beef Brisket Curry and Chicken Curry (I'm assuming they same style as you mentioned for Noodle Delight)...I think ownership has changed, the counter girl upfront was different and I saw a lady at the kitchen, been going there for over 10 years and this was the first time I was seing different set of faces..though I did not clarify with them.both the curries were good but felt something was missing....maybe more physcological than anything....
The taiwanese store on the extreme left is pretty decent...The BBQ store and New Fountain are very average, nothing to write home about....and the other store's keep frequenly changing hands,so you get the idea..

Dragon Centre Mall Midland Sheppard Area Take Out

Jar...since you mentioned Noodle Delight...what are the good dishes to order there...have passed that place like a gazillion times and thought about doing a takeout on numerous occasions but ended up going somewhere else...

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Have tried their Biryani a couple of times...very average.....On the other hand to be fair their Bihari Kebab is awesome though the quantity to price ratio is extremely low....

Current favourite for Biryani is Silver Spoon (the Warden and Ellesmere one)
