Burger Week - $5 Burger specials at various restaurants in Toronto - The Grid newspaper - may 30 to june 2, 2012

Thanks for the heads up...been wanting to try Holy Chuck for a while now....Great excuse to stop over....

Alphonso mango available at Price Chopper

Are you sure its Alphonso and not "Ataulfo"....highly doubt it because of the price you mentioned....

Alphonso mango available at Price Chopper

I picked up the alphonsoes from the same Price chopper (Warden and Finch)on last thursday, they had limited boxes even then...went yesterday to pick up another box,but as ragged25 mentioned they were sold out...but I did not see the Kesar mangoes...and I did scan the entire fruit section....
IMHO,Alphonsoes are way better than Kesar...I'm surprised that they are priced the same.....

Crawfish Boil in Toronto

Is it always available in IKEA?

Alphonso mango available at Price Chopper

Yup..me too.....I agree its a bit smaller...
My friend was telling me that Costco normally has the 6 in a a box too....same price....

Alphonso mango available at Price Chopper

Just checked the online flyer....confirmed...headed to Price Chopper after work...Thanks Ace123

Alphonso mango available at Price Chopper

Thanks for the heads up....and for the pic as well..when I saw the post,I was like here we go again ..."Ataulfo" confused for Alphonso...

Where oh where to get canned or packaged poutine sauce (e.g. St. Hubert) in east end Toronto

Dollarama for sure...

Banh Mi Boys

Tried it out today ..went at around 11 to avoid the crowd....ordered the Beef Cheek Bao and pork Belly Bao....They were nice but did not blow me away.....the pork belly infact lacked salt completely...
Will I order them again?...not sure....
Next time I'm going to try the tacos and the kimchi fries.....

Chinese foodcourt stalls (authentic cantonese)

Oh yes...I think its called "Lemon Grass" ...the brisket curry is to die for..Its on my top 3 list of food court dishes
...but the other stalls are not really upto the mark with regards to the cantonese food that the OP was asking about....

Best Pho in T.O.

szw,I think the dingy place you are referring to is Que Ling.....That place is always packed with locals which is always a good sign...The Pho there is definitely one of the better ones....though I havent been there in over a year,so not sure if quality has remained the same

tacos within walking distance of kensington market area

Tried Emporium Latino today...ordered the Beef Tacos Al pastor....went around noon...place was empty..I opted to eat in...first thing that should have warned me,the lady nuked the beef......I also opted for the hot sauce....
Anyways, giving the benefit of the doubt,I took the tacos to the table in the front..First bite and it was underwhelming...looked like the beef was boiled....no flavour at all..bland...I thought that I would try the puspusas next week, but from this experience,I don't think I'm returning back..
The only saving grace was the tortillas tasted fresh....

2012 alphonso mango sightings

Thanks for the heads up foodyDudey...

we go through this every year where people confuse Ataulfo with Alphonsoes...I guess because of similarity with the spellings...
Alphonsoes are sold only in India/Pakistani grocery stores..
The ones you see in the asian grocery stores are Ataulfo....
Ataulfo does not even hold a candle to Alphonsoes.....
Have an alphonso and you are spoiled for life....

John's B-B-Q : Verdict after a simple dinner - Food is still good!

I know we are going off topic here....but caitlink ,thats the one I'm talking about....I try it with different dips (including the one you have mentioned) and hot sauces...and always I squeeze a bit of lime juice on it to reduce the "fishy" smell....

John's B-B-Q : Verdict after a simple dinner - Food is still good!

Cold Beer and Cuttle fish...a strange pairing but really goes well......especially a lager beer :-) and yes the fatty char siu was a hit

John's B-B-Q : Verdict after a simple dinner - Food is still good!

Having a pre St Paddy's day at a buddy's place..I have to take some snacks to go with the beer....so I went to He-He-Long and picked up some fatty char siu and cuttle fish.....
Could not resist digging into a couple of pieces....soooo good.....I'm sure its going to be appreciated :-)

Best siu yuk / 烧肉 - Chinese Crispy Roast Pork?

I agree...Princess inside Market Village its one of the better ones though pricier.....Totally agree with sweetie on the sodium level....In that vicinty shark fin city pacific mall used to have decent Siu Yuk but i think recently the standard has gone down a bit...again they are on the pricier side...

Chung Moi Chinese Restaurant ( Kennedy & Eglinton )

The best item on their menu is the Hot and Sour soup....always a winner....

Anybuddy try the pork belly sliced like bacon in Asian stores?

Good thing you did not buy it ,expecting to cook it like bacon...not sure how its cured,I do know its dried.....normally how we cook it is slice it thinly and then add it to the rice cooker along with chinese sausage and salted duck when making rice.....the oil that oozes out from the pork really enhances the flavour of the rice....

This link will give you an idea what i'm talking about

The Burger's Priest - Queen and Coxwell

I read it too and was wondering how come there was no buzz on CH about it....

ISO : Cheesecloth

Yup...the dollar stores are your best bet...I get mine from them all the time...doesn't matter which one...seems like its a standard item there now....

At what steak house might a party of two be comfortable without drinking alcohol?

I have been to Jacob's and Barberian's.......and now when i think back, there have been so many diners that did not have alcohol on their table...Not sure why you are feeling weird about it....Its not like you are going to a Bar or Pub....i mean it would not feel weird even if you did not order steak,so no alcohol is no big deal....

Hyderabadi Biryani in Toronto

This is the right address

1071 Danforth Road

Never thought this day will come! - I actually give a thumbs-up to a T&T prepared dish!

Never seen it at the Warden store.....and I pass by the Hot Food counter pretty regularly....

Diana's Seafood opening restaurant

I had mailed them a couple of weeks back to check about Oyster shucking services, they replied back they did not do it,but they did mention that they would offer that service once the restaurant started....So I'm going to assume that they have oysters...why don't someone make a call or email them instead of assuming that they don't have oysters....

ISO: Takeout Hungarian Goulash

Looking for decent Takeout Hungarian Goulash…..Downtown or Midtown would be great

Thanks in Advance
