Taylor Street has the following:
Conte Di Sovia, 1400 block of Taylor - Every meat, canned, jarred, cheesed, italian good you could want. homemade fresh Mozz, Riccotta, great selection of fresh Cosa Nostra, Turano and Gonella Breads. Best sandwiches in the area.
Scarfurri Bakery, Taylor, East of Racine - Small, old neighborhood bakery. bread, sicilian style pizza
Ferrara Bakery - Taylor - bewtween Western & Oakley
-Cannoli, Cakes, Cookies and every Italian bakery good you could Imagine
Start at Ashland and start walking east. Your never more than a couple feet away from the real deal....
Ethnic Neighborhoods?
Among Taylor St., and Elmwood Park there are several italian neighborhoods.
Harlem & Grand area (montclair/galewood neighborhoods)
-plenty of Italian Delis, Pasta Shops, Restaurants
Heart of Chicago
-Ignotz, etc.
Tri Taylor
-Taylor & Oakley/Western
- pizza, delis, restaurants, Ferrera Bakery, Superior Bakery
....to name a few....
Pastrami - Thick, Spiced, Buttery Fat
I'm a Chicago native who lived in L.A. for the past 4 years. Thankfully, I have returned back home.
Now all I need is a fantastic Pastrami sandwich comparable to Langer's in L.A. If anyone has had it, you know what I'm talking about
I've been to Manny's, Eleven City Diner, etc. They don't make me happy. I've read all the posts, but figured I'd throw the question out there, and start a Pastrami-specific thread.
Has Mateos Closed?
Two weeks ago, when I went there to eat, it was closed. My father in law has known Matteo and the family for some time. They ate there about 2 months ago, and he said that Matteo was very ill. But when we drove by on a Saturday night at 8:00, the place was dark. One could only assume.....
Opus overrated
Dined at Opus last night (saturday) and couldn't have had a more positive experience. The flavors where bold, the dishes where very well executed and the service impeccable. We had the 6 course tasting menu with the wine pairings. Sardines, Foix Gras, Squab, poached egg, pablano soup, etc. For 60$ a head (+36$ for wine pairing) it would be hard to find a better deal in town.
Wonderful meal.
Where to buy chicago style greek pita bread in SFV?
Not in the SFV, but close enough and worth the couple miles...
Try Mom's Hummus stand at the Hollywood Farmers Market - every Sunday. Not only is their hummus good, but their pitas remind me of the classic soft, pliable and greasy (if you of course fry it up) pitas from every Gyros stand, Greek Town establishment or Greek-run fast food joint in the fine city of Chicago (my hometown).
Trust me, they are the best I've had out here. Still looking for comparable gyros though.....
Westside Italian - 10 People - Tonight!
Any suggestions? Nothing extremely expensive, but just nice enough to satisfy out of town clients.
Any help would be much obliged.
Chicago Pizza Showdown Pt. 2: Tony’s Little Italy in Placentia
Though the pictures look delicious, those Pizza's are not authentic Chicago-style (born & raised). Zelo's put corn, pecans and goat cheese on their pizza and Tony's looks like pizzahut pan aside from the sauce being on top.
Zelo's does look the closest, but no self-respecting Chicagoan would ever put anything other than sausage and maybe pepp. on their pizzas.
Try flash frozen mail order pizzas from Malnati's. Thats the closest I've come to ever having "chicago style" in Souther Cal.
North Hollywood - Sat. Night Thai Options
Going to see a play against my will. Therefore, must celebrate the ending of the play with Thai food and multiple beers. Probably will get out around 10:00, whats good and open?
Pasadena nightlife?
Magnolia on Lake - Great small plate stuff, fantastic burger, great french fry trio. Very lively bar scene, which is it's main draw. They play good music and the service is friendly.

Mia Sushi in Eagle Rock
better yet, go to Colorado Wine Co. on Colorado and buy a nice bottle. Last time I went, they had some deal with the the CWC where they charged a reduced corkage. I got blasted.
looking for good Chicago style pizza
The Malnatti's frozen pizza's can be quite outstanding and close to the fresh one's on Wells. Ordered several and honestly, the pepperoni holds up much better than the sausage and cooks wonderfully, providing you follow the more complex recipe (defrosting, coating with oil, etc.)
looking for good Chicago style pizza
Having been born and bread in the city of Chicago and spent 28 years relishing in the various styles of Pizza my hometown has to offer, I have never once crossed paths with ANYTHING resembling BJ's shit product. It is however, identical to Pizza Hut's Pan Pizza, so at least that got that going for them.
"Chicago Style" my fat ass...
Good butcher Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena?
Hugely Second that. Great guys and great product, especially their pork.
Where can I get Braciole in Los Angeles
They got a good one at Dominick's. Maybe on Sunday's only though...

Great Burger and Beers - Glendale/Pas/Burb Area
Need a place for tonight. Good Burgers, beers and fun/casual atmosphere. Burger Continental?
XMAS Party - Westside/Hollywood/Downtown - Fun Joint - 50-60 people
Did a search, and most where old or irrelevant.
Good food, Private space, anywhere in Bev. Hills, Century City, Santa Monica, Downtown and even West Hollywood. 50-60 People with a decent budget.
The Buffalo Club and Cafe De Artiste where suggested. Are those worth it?
any help would be much obliged, thanks!
Give Oinkster Another Try!
Ate there this weekend. I had the Pastrami and my wifey had the Pulled Pork. Both sucked. THe Pastrami was rubbery and my teeth had to work overtime to release it from the bun, which was shit as well. Day old stale.
The pork was damn near minced meat and the flavor matched it's texture.
Service was VERY friendly and the sauce was plentiful. Fries where hot and crispy.
26 bucks for two people, two sandwiches, two small fries and two small drinks. not worth it but wanted it to be good so bad. I cried on the way home.
Authentic Chicago Style Pizza Pie Place???
not one solitary thing about BJ's is Chicago style. Pizza Hut style maybe, but definitely not Chicago style.
wow.
Molinari Sopressata -- where to find it?
Mario's Deli in Glendale sells it for sure.
Dakota Report
Great review and Very informative. Gonna have to go just for the PRAWN! Too bad about the chewy Rib Eye (SIGH. My SO Katie would really enjoy this place....i'll keep it in mind
Beware of Boa in Santa Monica
A cigar at a steakhouse?! Outside even!? Come on...
Regardless, rude hostesses/hosts are the worst and should be drowned.
ISO: Bracciole
Dominick's on Beverly has it. Maybe as a Sunday Special only, but it's definitely good. Not like Ma used to make, more refined but delicious none the less.

Takeshi Ramen in Glendale
Have been there a couple times and couldn't agree with you more. Great service and EXTREMELY succelent pork. So damn good....
Scarantino's, Formerly Dino's - Anyone Been?
How is Scarantino's in G-Dale? I'm always on the lookout for reliable neighborhood joints....
No pressure, just the most important pizza of my life
BJ's is the worst. About two steps down from Pizza Hut's Pan...
NY chowhounder needs fresh mozzarella (LA)
Try Roma Deli in Pasadena
918 N Lake Ave
Pasadena, CA 91104
(626) 797-7748
They have Bubalus Bubalis Mozz, which is super fresh, local California made, and also tasty as hell. Plus it's made from Water Buffalo so you get that fantastic gamey edge to it.
The Ricotta is phenomenal as well.
Roma is an authentic and affordable and definitely worth a trip to Pas.
