Organic greek yogurt options, plain, whole or 2%

I don't know if its "organic" per se, but Go Greek Yogurt in Beverly Hills on Bedford is really good. They have whole, 2% and skim. Toppings are pretty unique, they have a bunch like sour cherry and a carrot with some honey. Its pretty expensive though (like 7 bucks), its kind of got that "pinkberry" vibe to it, but I really liked it.

Best prepackaged juices?

I do have a juicer, but most of the stuff I make kind of tastes weird for some reason. So I want to drink more juice but don't really like the whole process of juicing.

I like Pressed Juicery and its $6.50 a bottle. Is there any more budget friendly alternatives? Westside and Southbay is most convenient for me. I saw the Venice Whole foods had some bottles as well but its over $7 a bottle.

I know a lot of places are popping up around town, just trying to find the best spot, preferably bottled up not in cups with straw type of places.

I went there about 6 months ago, the place really went downhill. Quality control, just about as bad as the Glendale location before they shuttered down.

Top Chef NOLA - Ep. #14 - 01/15/14 (Spoilers)

At least the way the sandwhiches looked, they were for the most part uninspired. "I made this with chinese vinegar because I'm chinese".

I think the editors asked him to be harsh knowing that the elimination challenge would be related.

Top Chef NOLA - Ep. #14 - 01/15/14 (Spoilers)

Roy said the flavor was off on the pastor. Its not inconceivable to think that because they only had 20 minutes to cook. Carlos was even questioning if that was a long enough time to marinade. Al Pastor is great off one of those rotating spitz, grilled after a quick marinade, I'm not sure it would have tasted like you'd think pastor would taste.

To me it looked like a marinated pork sandwhich.

I can't stand Max's for some reason. They are known for their fried chicken, which I don't think is all that good to begin with. Not a fan of their branches in Manila either.

Also, not being a fan of Crispy Pata, I didn't really like Magic Wok either. I found their dishes like freshly prepared versions of the steam table type places and the atmosphere as well.

You may want to check out Gerry's Grill in Cerritos. I had a good meal there, its been several years. Also a fan of Pondahan in West Covina near that big mall out there.

LA rose cafe is pretty good, I've only been there for breakfast/brunch. Its a bit more geared toward american tastes though. Great service and atmosphere.

Their sisig is not like in the phillipines. It had decent flavor but something about the texture was a bit off. They even mentioned on the menu it was their own version of the dish.

They had good kare kare, especially good with the bagoong rice. Garlic fried rice is always good as well. I'm not a fan of crispy pata but my relatives all enjoyed it. Most of their fried dishes were good (fried pusit/squid).

Looking for a New Filipino Restaurant

I recently had a great family dinner at fiesta si barrio in Eagle Rock. Really enjoyed their different fried rices (bagoong) as well as the usual suspects (Kare Kare, adobo, kaldereta, lechon manok, etc)

Pretty extensive menu, better than the other choices around.

Never been to the spot you mentioned so i don't have a point of comparison.

Filipino restaurants

LA Rose Cafe near Kaiser on Sunset is not too bad. Not really the westside but if you're out there, its not too bad and a bit americanized with nice decoration, good service, etc. There are a few filipino restaurants (maybe 1 or 2) on Venice Blvd in Culver City but they're pretty forgettable.

There are a few restaurants in Panorama City by the Island Pacific Mall. Pinoy Pinay is a steam table setup up, but for me it was probably the best of the ones out there.

Doubt you'll find good lechon outside of catering of an entire pig though.

I like Roy Chois burger at sunny spot. The rest of the menu, not so much though....even the fries are too aggressively spiced. Actually just had hinano burger...it was ok.

recommendations for birthday dinner for 19 yo son in LA area

I'd also consider Fogo de Chao. It's a little more high end of the spectrum pricewise but I'd think it would be more impressive for a 19 year olds birthday dinner vs burgers at plan check which is more like an everyday type of place

TACOS - LA Dish of the Month (June 2013)

I tried some "creative fusion" tacos in Hermosa Beach over the weekend. Basically it was at a place called "Project Taco" on the Hermosa Pier.

1 Chicken Avocado Taco
1 "Blueberry BBQ" pork taco with a blueberry sriacha sauce.

neither one of them worked at all. just overpowering flavors, couldn't taste anything except sauce. the guys seemed nice though, but not something I'd really want to have again...it was situated in between bars on the pier so their target demo might be different..but yeah, $1 street tacos from most other taco truck would be way better in every way possible.

Leoda Kitchen & Pie Shop, Lahaina Maui, HI - any reports?

I ate there last week. Had an Ahi Tuna sandwhich which was honestly one of the best sandwhiches I've ever had. Great bread, good balance of flavors, seared sushi grade ahi...just really excellent. It was expensivish at $16.

Also took a banana bread loaf back home (to LA) and it was quite good.

Did not try the pies. The actual place itself is a roadside stop off on the way to Lahaina. They have a quaint little mini-mart as well as a fruit vendor who was doing fresh fruit juices. I liked the vibe of the area and was glad I went.

Barcelona/San Sebastian/Bilbao/Burgos/Madrid ... in AUGUST.

I was in Barcelona in August and Pinotxo bar was closed for the month. I did go to Tapas24 and enjoyed it...as well as other tapas bars, mainly in the Born area of the city.

I also enjoyed a meal at Casa Botin (oldest in the world) in Madrid, more for the history than anything. The suckling pig and some squid ink'd squid. Pricey for what it was though, but very memorable.

Had the fish burrito at Alertos in fountain valley over the weekend.....way downhill....too many onions, fish was barely there without flavor or anything. Huge disappointment because it used to be one of my favorites.

!8 year old goddaughter for "cool" LA dinner

the food is "cool looking" and something she can instagram to her friends as is the atmosphere...all crazy weird spanish style modern art, bentleys and aston martins out front, etc.

!8 year old goddaughter for "cool" LA dinner

If she's 18 years old I doubt she'll find Gjelina very "cool" (unless she's a hipster type), meaning she wants music in the background, the "typical LA experience", young people eating and partying and the chance to end up on TMZ.

So yeah, Katsuya or the Bazaar. I'm thinking the Bazaar would be best for the interesting molecular type of things they do with the food, the nightlife aspect of it since its young and hot beverly hills, the crazy decorations, monitors, statues and that store they have for browsing.

Anyone gave Sunny Spot ("a cookshop"??) a try?

I've been 3 times, not really a fan. I like Aframe and Chego a lot better...just a little wider array of flavors wheras Sunny Spot seemed kind of boring for what it was. For some reason, Carribean style food doesn't seem to taste that good in the mildish LA weather....I did like the drink selection. And for the food.

I did like the cubano pork sandwhich though. Everything else was average or a miss for me. Just thought it couldn't decide if it wanted to be trendy or homey as far as the food was concerned.

need quick amazing takeout between LAX and west LA

I'd go somewhere closer to West LA than LAX as you'd want to avoid the rush hour traffic that will start getting heavy around 2-3pm if you're taking the 405.

If the 405 is pretty messed, you can always go down Sepulveda. If you do go this route, there are a lot of interesting restaurants down Venice Blvd (you can get off from the 405 as well) such as Barwachi which has some really good Indian food..its all off a steam table and vegetarian focused but really solid. Versailles is right there on Venice Blvd as well if you want some decent Cuban food, I'm a fan of the roast pork. There are a few brazillian restaurants on Venice as well..I went to a brazillian pizza place last week called Bella Vista which was really cool as it was served Rodizio (all you can eat, they bring you the food) style. cheap too, $9.99 for lunch...but not really takeaway although you can order the whole pizzas to go.

Javan Persian Cuisine, 2-3 blocks from your hotel. I'm a fan of their Lubia Polo and their stews are also quite good. There are a few other really solid persian places but the parking is kind of hard on Westwood Blvd and its perpendicular from your hotel.

Monte Alban was mentioned, that's always a good choice. Really great lunch specials, although I'd think they were dine in only..not sure. $6.99..can't beat it.

There is also the CHEGO lunch truck (restaurant has been closed) on Overland in West LA..which is in the general pathway as well. Korean-focused fusion rice bowls..I really like their prime rib rice bowl. Inexpensive, and its a food truck with a semi-constant location.

Favorite thing to order at Pann's?

I only go there for breakfast. 70% of the time I get the hamburger patty and eggs with hash browns and instead of toast I get biscuits and gravy. Sometimes I get the andouille sausage and eggs...eggs always over medium.

Hokkaido Buffet on Pico

I've found the Sherman Oaks branch better. Weekends are a lot better, the crab legs (weekends and dinner only) are actually not that bad, its probably 80% of my meal when i go there. that being said, my family loves going there at every opportunity so I've gotten sick of it.

I like their bread buns, red bean/green tea iced cream, teriyaki chicken and crab legs.
