New recommendations in Astoria i vote for Kyclades as the best seafood in Astoria as well. Pretty much everyone i know feels the same way too. |
My favorite restaurant in Astoria for seafood is Taverna Kyclades. SImple prep but always fresh and delicious. |
unfortunately the quality of the bagels at bagelette has also suffered since the changeover. |
How do I know whats "in season" regarding fruits and veggies? i find local, in season produce in my supermarket is generally promoted as such -- otherwise no telling where items come from. |
so funny that this thread was resurrected because i had originally read about reheating the pizza in a skillet, which i did for the first time last evening. it really works -- the crust was crispy and the pizza came out great. |
may not be very creative, but one of my favorite ways to eat a mango is with some Fage 0% yogurt. this is one of my breakfast staples. |
I like the pasta idea....i have had reheated mussels tossed with pasta and as long as you reheat at a low temp, you should be fine. |

Vegan, Kosher for Passover Recipes don't know how important it is to you, but powdered sugar -- and some baking soda --contains corn starch. a no no on passover. |
Favorite "everyday" Passover Recipe matzoh farfel stuffing with lots of sauteed onions and mushrooms. i could eat that even when it is not passover. |

Am I the only one with this absurd pet peeve about bagels and cream cheese? this is exactly how -- and exactly why -- i like the open-faced style. ha! |

What is your favorite spaghetti sauce ina jar? Fairway Markets Tomato Basil Sauce -- tomatoes, onions, basil, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano. 4 grams of fiber and 170 mg. of sodium per serving. And only 2.99 a jar. If i cannot make my own sauce, i can't imagine using anything other than this. It has everything i would put in and nothing that i wouldn't.. |
The thing about Amore...which is absolutely a great slice joint, is that the pizza tastes like it did when I was a kid. Back in the day, no one was slicing/shredding fresh basil over the pizzas, etc., etc. |

Want the BEST GREEK in Astoria for tonite!! If you are looking for fresh seafood, you cannot ever go wrong with Taverna Kyclades. |

I used to work for a company located in Jersey City and we would often go to Fiore's for the wonderful sandwiches with their amazing homemade mozzarella. Luckily i now work not too far from Leo's Latticini in Corona, Queens - where they also have amazing homemade mozzarella. The sisters who run the place say that Fiore's is owned by their relatives. |

looking for pho ga with poached chicken and LIME not lemon I know i have gotten mint with the traditional PHO. I will have to try the Pho Bo Kho...sounds good. |
looking for pho ga with poached chicken and LIME not lemon I have had the pho many times at thai son, but i don't remember getting basil leaves -- i thought they were serving it with mint. |
really glad you enjoyed amore. thanks for reporting back. |
amore is my favorite by the slize pizza shop in queens! |
sorry biondanonima, but according to merriam-webster on line, chili is actually the first spelling for the peppers themselves. |
I will second the skirt and hanger steaks! they are my two favorites as well. I love the flavor.... |
And then there were two!!! |

I am also on a low sodium diet, but I must be the exception rather than the rule since I actually prefer the low sodium V8 to the regular. I also like drinking it non-chilled -- the flavors seem to be more developed that way. |
Thanks. I really love the whole fried fish, but I am pretty sure that won't travel very well. I might try ordering some of the salads, curries and noodle dishes to go. |
stuartlafonda, what do you usually order for takeout? does it travel well? i have been to sri many times, but have always eaten at the restaurant. |
I like my food "Thai spicy" and when I order that way it is quite authentic. My nose runs, my head sweats, my cheeks get all rosy, and while that does not paint a pretty picture, it is all part of the having the heat level combined with the vibrant, deep flavors that Sri is so good at putting together. I have also gone to Sri with folks who cannot tolerate the same level of heat that I can and have ordered their food medium spicy. It is still at a heat level that works for the spicy dishes and enough to not disappoint me. |
sorry you had such a disappointing experience. i just had another great dinner at Sri. shredded green mango salad and pork curry with stringbeans. heat level was perfect for both dishes. i have very rarely had an "off" meal there. so as far as i and my friends are concerned, we think the old gray mare is doing quite well, thank you very much. |
JFores.....which two pizzas places in Queens do you rank that highly? |
tap water hands down. but i live in nyc and have access to some of the best tap water available. |
Just Like Mother's on Qns Blvd Forest Hills I think you are correct -- this is decent Polish comfort food -- not as good as Teresa's. I absolutely LOVED the food at Teresa's in the city, but I have heard that they closed -- which is very, very sad. |
I definitely agree with you about Amore Pizza. It is a taste of the past for me as well, and I did not grow up in Queens. I think it is the best pizza I have had in a long time and is very reminicscent of the pizza I grew up on in lower Manhattan. I also like the pizza at New Park in Howard Beach - nice crispy crust - but the sauce is just a little bit too sweet. |
