Market Basket Scallops in milk?

yea i guess it is.. pretty gross to think about actually. I filled/drained the container 3-4 times with water in the sink before cooking them, even though your not supposed to wash scallops... wont be buying those anymore.. not even sure i will eat the rest..

Market Basket Scallops in milk?

Got some bay scallops from market basket today. They are labeled as "mexican".. When i took them out to prepare them, they are in a whitish liquid, im guessing maybe it is milk?? I have never got scallops that came in a liquid before from the grocery store. They smelled ok.
Should i be concerned!?

China Star Dim Sum and Seafood

Was the unknown dish sorta the consistancy of purplish mashed potatoes?? There is a taro dish with pork inside.. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-aduX9GU0f4...

They have a photo menu at China Star and you can ask for things to go from it or even while you are there.

I wasnt a fan of the fresh scallops, too much garlic and the part you dont normally get (not sure what its called) is very tough

Nightmare at Average Joe's Needham.

This is typical of all the locations of that place. There is one in Acton that is always packed.. You can wait an hour for a seat there, and the food is barely average.. I dont get it...

British Beer Company is another one.. They opened one in Westford a few years back. On a fri/sat night i have been told aprox TWO hours for a table!

China Star Dim Sum and Seafood

Returned on 6/9/13... The place was very slow/empty.. 11:30 on a Sunday, I found that concerning because a lack of people is always a big downfall for cart based dimsum. Not sure where everyone was... We were impressed though, at least 3-4 times a cart server refused to give us dishes we asked for since they knew they had been sitting on the cart too long. Instead they had fresh ones made in the kitchen and brought to us. Came out to $14/per person with tip and we had a ton of leftovers. The more people you have, the cheaper dimsum is per person i have found. We got all the typical cart items.

What did you find about the food that made it not as good as boston? We feel it is just as good and actually better for several items compared to out normal boston places China Pearl or Hei La Moon. Agree that it seems to be slightly more expensive.

Went again on 5/26, still really good. One dish we got were fresh sea scallops on the 1/2 shell with rice noodles and a lot of garlic. Odd being served the whole scallop with the foot and all, not common in this country. Bill ended up higher this time $84/with tip, i guess the scallops, lobster dumplings and the shrimp/head we got counted as supersize items or something.

Lobster Rolls: 2013 Edition

LIke i said it was all pre-portioned in saran wrap so the size had nothing to do with who was running the show as they were all weighed out and the person preparing it was not a factor. The lettuce shreds i think were mostly at the bottom not mixed in but some did get into the mix. The celery was there for sure and had i known, i would have just not got it.
Searching the web i found this http://thelongroadtovenice.com/2011/08/ where you can clearly see celery
Also this blog where he even mentions it.. His also seems to have shreds of lettuce rather than a single large leaf at the bottom His lobster looks much better than what was being served up yesterday though. http://forums.egullet.org/topic/11793...

Lobster Rolls: 2013 Edition

only thing i can think of is maybe cause they had it as a "special" and it was $1 off. Please report back what you find. The photos i see on yelp and google look much better than what was being served today in terms of size, although i do see celery in a few photos i think and 1 blog mentions it. Usually i ask and if they say it has celery i dont order it.

I know it just wasnt mine as i watched how the girl was making them, each portion was pre-measured and wrapped in cellophane wrap and she would just unwrap and put on each roll. Wish i took a photo of the roll i got

Lobster Rolls: 2013 Edition

When i was at Bob's in Newbury today i thought the rolls were on the small side but for $11.99 i guess i wasnt expecting huge. The bun was slightly toasted. The big disappointment was celery which to me ruins the entire thing.. Also the lettuce wasnt a pc at the bottom but shreds throughout

Destination town with decent lunch...

Thanks everyone. We ended up going to Newburyport. Walked around downtown and looked at all the stores, also were a lot of outdoor tents/stands setup in the center and along various streets and a band too. Didnt buy anything but some kettle corn and lemonade. Lots of neat/overpriced/gifty sorta stuff...reminded me of Rockland Maine sorta.

We then ate lunch at Bob's lobster. The lobster roll was meh.. not very big and with celery in it.. $11 i didnt expect much though.. The fish/chips was ok.. standard cysco fries and small chunks of schrod. Although the tarter sauce seemed like it was just plain mayo..

Then went to plum island, drove to the end and went for a walk.

Beautiful day for it.

Wild Cherry Yogurt Shop- Chinatown

yea it is a bit strange even down to the small mosaic tiles they use on the walls and furniture in some of them. Oh and the boba bubbles these places have are nasty liquid filled things, not at all like the boba you get in bubble tea but more like a skin filled with that nasty liquid like used to come in those wax bottle candies...

Wild Cherry Yogurt Shop- Chinatown

These place are all the rage now, i see them popping up everywhere, all based on the same formula.. All with the same reward card, flavors, toppings, etc... yet different names.. Usually with a fruit in the name "Orange Leaf" "Sweet Kiwi" "Wild Cherry"...

I even found one that had hot fudge, which most do not.

The ones i have been to though, have all had yogurts full of chemicals which i dont want to eat.For instance Sweet Kiwi has Sorbitol in all their flavors..

I just noticed online that Orange Leaf uses Cane Sugar in a lot of theirs which is good.

Destination town with decent lunch...

Looking for a destination within 1-1.5 hrs from boston to spend a day this weekend. Someplace we can walk around , sightsee, have a good lunch.. Preferably near ocean, decent seafood options...
Marblehead/Salem was the 1st thought but been there countless times.. (used to live there)
Dont want to deal with cape bridge traffic on memorial day weekend either

New China Pearl Woburn - Dim Sum Just Passable

Bon chon doesnt look like its opening soon. I thought their wings were a dry coating? The Simply Khmer ones are a hot/sweet sticky sauce over battered/fried wings.

New China Pearl Woburn - Dim Sum Just Passable

One of our favorites. Love the hot wings.

What are your favorites at Asia Gourmet? We typically get Soup Dumplings and a rice cake dish they have, also like their hot&sour. The turnip cakes are ok.. forget what else we have tried .. Have been about a dozen times.. Have had some bummer dishes.. Once got something that was just pork fat on rice!

A tourist's review...

All in expectations. My favorite lobster roll story.. I was in Maine with a girl who had never been to Maine (forget where she was from).. We were at a seafood place and she orders the lobster roll. Comes out and looks pretty good to me.. She just pokes at it a bit then sends it back.. She was expecting a fried eggroll sort of thing with lobster inside. Had no idea what a lobster roll was when she ordered it!

I am shocked you thought Kelly's lobster roll was so great. Had you had lobster rolls before or was this your 1st try?

Anytime i have had their rolls they have been really wet and ice cold as if just defrosted. Meat always tasted like wet, icy sponge. Yes they are large..

This site has some nice photos of various rolls and one couples opinions http://lobsterrollchronicles.com/

New China Pearl Woburn - Dim Sum Just Passable

I have been to Asia Gourmet many times but feel its a totally different cuisine so I dont compare them. I have had some barely edible things at A.G. too. I enjoy both but now that the China Star Dim Sum in lowell is open, i doubt i will ever venture to Woburn again. Woburn used to be our lazy dimsum when we want to go somewhere quick. Typically no wait, fast and free parking, no tolls, in/out quick. They dont have one of the carts that cooks the taro cake on it like at HLM so its usually pretty soggy. We tend to get mostly steamed dumplings and items off the fried cart in woburn. I have had some horrible dishes at HLM too. (ones that other times are great, much depends on how long it was on the cart).. Give China Star in Lowell a shot, i think you will like it. Also, regardless of what dimsum hours/days any place advertises, i refuse to go anytime other than Sunday in the 11-12 range.. Anything outside that, seems like a huge risk of disappointment.

When did you go? I have had decent dimsum there, certainly not Winsor or HLM level but passable in a pinch. The new place in Lowell i think is better than HLM even.
