Pls help me choose 1 stop for Cambodian in Lowell!?!

Yea we went to tepthida khmer only once but never ate. Walked out after waiting too long and listening to too much noise for a mostly empty room.

I like viet thai but have not figured out what to order there to get strong flavors, everything i have got has always been relatively mild.

We like simply khmer alot. The spicy wings are great!

ohhh i thought she died! About a year or so ago they were closed for several days with no sign or anything. Next time i went they said they had a funeral/death and she was gone...

Pls help me choose 1 stop for Cambodian in Lowell!?!

It is? We used to go every week for years but then after the grandma (cook) passed away, the food really dropped in quality. The buffet was usually empty and cold (not even turned on) and the food wasnt spicy anymore. After 3-4 let downs, we gave up. At one point, I even heard they were going to sell it... Has it gone back up hill?

lunch spots in the Lancaster, MA area

On a nice day Kimballs in Lancaster is great. Excellent fried clams and seafood, fish & chips, also has burgers, dogs, etc.. and great ice cream.

Dimsum up/down hill alert!

I too like Winsor but i always find myself wondering about what "made to order" actually means.. When you can go there any day, any time and get such a huge variety of dumplings, how exactly are these being made. Certainly they are not rolling out dough and making an order of 4 of a particular dumpling to order.. I dont think rice flour based dumplings can keep very long raw without turning into mush.. You cant cook them and keep them warm without them turning to mush... So are things cooked and frozen and then steamed? Or !gasp! maybe microwaved? Im not quite sure how you manage that vast a selection of dimsum items when you are not cooking for hundreds and then sending them right out on carts like the dimsum houses are...

Mega Lobster

No you cant keep them in ME either. http://www.maine.gov/dmr/rm/lobster/guide/#sizes
If its not federal then they could get them in federal waters which i think would be 3 miles off shore or more.

Mega Lobster

Anyone know where these big lobsters come from?? They are prohibited by state regulations and possibly federal as well...

Best spots to buy culinary herbs (to grow)

I have not been this year but last year Hmart had tons of racks of them.. Including a lot of different hot peppers you dont usually see

Hudson/Marlborough, MA Fish Market Meat Market Farm stand?

Have you tried Kennedy's market?

Joe's crab shack - free crab for a year

plus coldstones icecream is horrible and overpriced. never understood why people liked that place. I guess its the mixin thing..

Joe's crab shack - free crab for a year

wow i never experienced anything like that but again it was 10-15 years ago since i have been to one!

Joe's crab shack - free crab for a year

Tomorrow Joe's Crab Shack chain is opening in Methuen MA.. The 1st 100 customers get free crab for a year. (not sure what that means exactly)... Im told the record anyone has waited is 28 hours!

Back 10-15 years ago when i used to travel alone a lot for work, id ofter stop into these when on the road.. predictable food in unfamiliar areas..

Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe, Chelmsford

I tried it and wasnt thrilled..
Pork flat bread sandwich was ok but very salty and very greasy.. Dripping with grease.. Not much flavor otherwise.

The singular noodle appeared like it was going to be spicy but the red flake on it really isnt. Lots of raw garlic. Noodle too thick and chewy for my tastes. Two of us only finished about 1/2 of it.

The noodle soup was the best thing we had but even that was a bit odd. We liked the noodles in this and the vinegary/spicy broth. Also the beef pcs in it were tasty and seemed to have been grilled. What threw us both on this was the veggies in it. Reminded me of frozen green giant veggie medley. Cut green beans, corn, lima beans, cubes of carrot, cubes of brownish potato.. meh...

Non-spicy options at Sichuan Garden

Sichuan meatballs are a must (lions head)
Chicken with Asparagus with chengdu sauce
Shredded pork with fresh bamboo shoots
Zha Jiang noodle soup with pork (we always get the spicy one but im sure its great nonspicy too)

Chinatown Bakeries: Best Pineapple Bun

I like Great Taste and the one on the corner next to it (forget the name)

Where is the best thin pizza in Metro West

Have you guys tried the Black Sheep Tavern in Sterling?? We cant eat any other pizza in this area now. It is by far our favorite. The best buffalo wings around too.. Note: only for 21+ or takeout..

Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford

give Sichuan Palace a try then and let me know what you think. Maybe you will like it!

Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford

Yea i was expecting the chewy noodle rice cakes. I had never had the thin crisp things before.

Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford

I was expecting rice cakes like this http://userealbutter.com/recipe_photos/chinese-stir-fried-rice-cakes7.jpg
They were not, they were more like tortilla chip pcs.

I have not tried Gene's yet. Its on my list!

Dimsum up/down hill alert!

Yes i mentioned that yesterday, the sterno smell is strong, especially noticeable when walking in the 1st hallway.

Dimsum up/down hill alert!

I have always been a huge supporter of Hei La Moon for dimsum but i have to say the last 3 times i have gone (All on Sundays around 11) that I have left disappointed. The cart selection i have found to be less than it used to be. The steamed items have been way over steamed with wrappers falling apart and the consistency of paste. Fried items almost non existent and when they do show up they are cold. And the worst offense i think is they have cheapened the ingredients on many items. There is a tofu dish that used to have shrimp on top. It now has some sort of stuff that more resembles rice flour/water with maybe a little fish in it.. The fried shrimp/chive dumplings were almost all chive. The fried shrimp taro dish now uses dry chow mein noodles instead of taro on the outside Etc etc.. We also found a few very rude cart ladies. One who kept putting things we didn't want on our table which we had to keep giving back. A second who stormed off with her cart that she had parked in front of us as we were asking for something. She had apparently got into an argument with a woman who was pushing the next cart, some words were exchanged and off she went... They have added a cart that sells beer, maybe this is their attempt to make you not notice the food quality!?

This prompted us to go back and try China Pearl in Woburn which we had not tried in a long time. We went the last two weeks.. Everyone in our party agreed that they liked it better than HLM! The ingredients were better, not over steamed, hot fried items, great variety. They even have a steam table setup with various items now. No paying to park, paying for tolls and friendlier service. We went at the same time Sunday at 11. There was a small wait there today, the week before we had a reservation since it was a large party.

Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford

funny you should mention that.. That was one of the dishes we tried. We expected the "crispy rice cakes" to be the white disc rice cakes you typically get in "rice cake" dishes.. When we got it the "rice cakes" were more like bits of those flat "noodles" they sometimes give you in a bowl at places when you sit down.. Hard to describe really. like small chips. Not at all what we expected. I even thought it was the wrong dish and had to ask. The pork was kinda like raw fatty bacon. Most of the dish got thrown out. Maybe we got a bad batch, id love to hear your experience!

We found the seasoning on all the "sichuan" dishes to simply be red oil on everything. Very oily and no complexity like you would find at Sichuan Gourmet or Garden, etc.. Just oil straight up out of a bottle. Another dish we got was the "bawang dry hot chicken" this was like popcorn chicken from kfc (minus the 11 herbs and spices) with that same oil poured over it.. No seasoning otherwise and just a greasy mess. Not dry at all and not at all like what you would get at other places.

Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford

Yes i tried it about a month ago. I didnt find it of that quality at all. I didnt try the duck but what i did try i was not impressed with. We both were very disappointed.

Sichuan Palace - Chelmsford

We have basically given up on the place. While the menu sounds promising the execution is not.

BUENO Y SANO IS ALMOST HERE!!

The best i can figure is that people who went to college near one have fond college memories of going there with their friends (perhaps after drinking), etc.. So it holds a nostalgic value. I went to school near an old 24hr diner that was famous for clam chowder that you could easily stand a spoon up in it. Same sorta thing..

Boston Area Barbecue Restaurants

Curiously that same source that went there a few times for takeout and on opening day 5 years ago? also gives ok reviews to fireflys which they have visited dozens of times. I cant stand fireflys! So not sure how much i trust it..

Boston Area Barbecue Restaurants

I agree with people who say BTs is very good. I have not tried Lesters. I never hear anyone on this forum mention Smoken Joes in Brighton. I have had some really good pulled pork there. Have not tried much else. Thoughts?

Nourish -- New Vegie Friendly place in Lexington

They get some good music there but some of the worst food/service i have ever had. I have learned to stick with a beer and french fries and it will be ok to go and enjoy the music..

BUENO Y SANO IS ALMOST HERE!!

BUENO Y SANO IS ALMOST HERE!!

I asked if refried beans were an option and was told nope only the black beans. I agree they are firem. I also agree the sauce didn't have much heat to it.. but those are minor issues to me, what disappointed me the most was the lack of meat, the complete absence of cheese and the mere stain of guac. Got a 2nd one another day this time with steak and it was the same thing. Lots of beans/rice very little of anything else.
